I think he’s probably right.

A friend of mine had a son in middle school when Smallville had been on for a couple of seasons. It was a popular show among his peers. Once, he joined into a conversation, and started to say something about “But when Clark becomes Superman…” and none of the other kids knew what he was talking about. They didn’t know that the show had anything to do with Superman. They didn’t recognize the names Clark Kent or Lex Luthor (Lois hadn’t joined the cast yet). At that time, there hadn’t been a Superman cartoon or movie for several years, and when he asked them if any of them had watched Lois and Clark, they answered no, because that was a “girls’ show.”

I find that hard to believe, since the shows weren’t on at the same time. And Smallville was as much a girls’ show–a CW teen soap opera with the superhero stuff mixed in.

I find the kids not knowing Smallville was about Superman more plausible than them having any opinion about Lois and Clark.

If I recall correctly, the canonical answer was “galactically stupid”.

Although, to her credit, it wasn’t just glasses on/glasses off. He also used/did not use hair gel.

The first few seasons of L&C were fantastic. Once they got married it had lost its magic. I rolled my eyes hard when they made a point of emphasizing that they were both virgins until their wedding.

Well it’s only a 2 years difference I don’t see why that would have mattered.

Flash had been cancelled for low ratings on another network. Why would they want to tie in with a loser?

Huh? Clark and Lex are the two most prominent characters, their names were said in show probably dozens of times each episode. Did they not know the name of the main characters in the show they were watching?

The Flash was short-lived and ended years before Lois & Clark began. I would think that, more than anything, would hinder a crossover.

Exactly. They didn’t recognize the names as characters who existed prior to Smallville.
