London Dopefest - Saturday 14th March

I OBJECT!

only joking

Object away :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve just confirmed the booking at Nanobyte for 4pm on Saturday - it’ll be in the back section and the sign will read Dope/Giraffe/Domebo.

Gotta love pubs with webpages. Gotta hate hotels that attempt to charge 3-effin’-quid per hour of internet connection. I’m SO happy I got one of those internet-on-the-move services last summer! And why do hotels say they have internet available but not that they charge extra, or how much they charge? They do say how much they charge for a stale croissant and a cup of bad coffee (aka continental breakfast)!

I’m still recovering from being charged £9.95 for a full English breakfast at a hotel that was, without a doubt, the most vile breakfast I think I’ve ever had. Was asked if I would be having breakfast the next day and responded “Fuck me no”, and ate at Cafe Nero instead.

If you’re going to pay over the odds for breakfast, there are some better places than others.

#60 messages to arrive at a site- that is sad

Good to see everyone again! And nice to meet some new people too.

Thanks for putting it together Illuminatiprimus.

No worries jjimm, and everyone else. I had a great time and was glad so many people braved the trek into central London - I can only apologise for the presence of live rugby on TV.

Sorry that it didn’t end quite so well for another attendee though. :frowning:

That worked out just fine for me! Except I missed the end of the match:

:frowning: Looking forward to an update.

Since I’m surprised nobody has posted anything more recent (either here or on NADS), I’ll announce that I had a txt-exchange with Pauly, berserker this afternoon. In keeping with the texts last night, she had fractured her ankle, but was otherwise okay. He was in overall control of the situation.

Aye, we went up to UCH til they sedated her about 10pm, then I came back down but everyone had gone. She had surgery on her foot yesterday morning, and they probably discharging her today.

Good Lord, what do you guys do at London Dopefests?

Play lots of games at the quizzes machine. Promise!

Oh, and a few of us had Thai for dinner.

But when was the rugby or the rioting, such that ankles were broken??

Jodi, the first rule of London Dopefests is… no-one talks about London Dopefests.

But seriously, the rugby was just on a TV screen, and there was no rioting (although the group quiz machine session got a bit lively). I didn’t witness it myself, but as far as I know the sad ankle accident was just a flukey mis-step / stumble while leaving the pub.

And the Thai meal was great. I really enjoyed meeting Jjimm and Nava properly for the first time - both good fun and very impressive people. Nava definitely has the most listenable voice in the world. She could read census statistics and make them sound interesting! Garius, Becks and Ghost were all on good form as well.

I wish to report that, despite being exposed to 1) Oxford Street on a Saturday afternoon, 2) Soho after dark on a Saturday night, 3) a pub full of people watching rugby, and 4) being manhandled by a group of well-meaning strangers, my daughter seems to have enjoyed her first Dopefest. She was extraordinarily happy the whole way home.

Which one of you slipped her some alcohol when I wasn’t looking?

Not me, but she did lick kferr’s heroin spoon.

That wasn’t mine, I found it on the floor in the toilet.

I’m the attendee who ended up breaking their ankle.

I slipped down the stairs leading down to the loo where they twisted. There was nothing to grab hold of so I slipped down a few.

I assumed I’d just jarred my ankle badly. I tried to stand up with the help of Ghost Who Walks but the ankle felt rather* flappy* so I thought I’d better give it a while. It’s a bit hazy after that, but thanks to Becks for being sensible and deciding an ambulance was necessary and again to Ghost for sorting that out. And I think Jennyrosity also came down and kept my mind off things, so thanks, Jenny.

Paul Berzerker came with me to hospital and kept me company and made sure I had my bag and coat, though sadly my pint had to be abandoned.

Anyway it turns out I fractured both sides of my ankle and a pice of bone became detached, so I needed surgery.

Thanks to again to Paul and Becks for visiting and sorting out essential supplies.

I’m now how but housebound since I have a lot of steps to negotiate and I failed the going downstairs test. There are a fair few steps around the flat too, unfortunately, so I am knackered.

On the plus side I should have a bun of steel and far better biceps and triceps by the time the cast comes off.

I have a nice red cast. The man at the fracture clinic was happy enough since I requested red for Arsenal, but he would have refused red for Man U. As a Liverpool supporter he was a very happy man, and it seems has casted (?) many footballers and an Arsenal physio.

I can recommend UCHL for a pleasant stay, very clean and modern, with great staff. Avoid the soup, but apart from that, the food was not bad at all.

I was provided with a private ambulance home, crewed by Laurel and Hardy. However, very kind and even took my bin out ready for collection.

Anyway, it was nice to meet up with folk, and sorry I didn’t have time to chat to everyone. Thanks to everyone who asked after me.

Gyrate, you already know that little M is gorgeous, but I’ll just say I agree.

Sir Doris, I’m sorry to hear about your adventure and I hope you’re feeling better soon. I believe yours is the first Dope-fest Injury. Who know they were so dangerous?
