As a 10yr Steelers fan from London (UK) I am finally in a position where I can potentially go to see the Steelers on Jan 23rd at their AFC Championship match.
I am going to the US on a business trip which will ‘coincidentally’ leave me with the 22/23 free, and within a few hours drive of Pittsburgh.
Am aware that this is a huge match and that tickets are selling fast, and at a $$ premium.
The main issue is that I can’t seem to find tickets that aren’t block bookings (2-6 seats). I don’t mind spending a few hundred dollars on a ticket but I can’t justify buying a whole block
Can anyone help me out?
Are there any good sites from which to buy tickets for Heinz field?
Help a London Doper Steelers fan get to see his team for the first time.
There are several single-ticket offerings here. (note: I in no way am endorsing this site or the tickets listed thereon. I’ve never used it, I’ve never even been to an NFL game. This is just to show they’re out there.)
You do realize that the Steelers are not a lock to be playing in that game much less at home. They will most likely get a bye in the first round but then have to win their next game to even get to that game. As things stand now the Steelers would then play that game at home but the Patriots could end up with that game in their stadium. That said you can try ebay or other auction sites. I would not recomend trying to get a ticket outside the stadium on game day. This is illegal as they will sell the tickets for huge profits. Scalping it’s called. The people that do this are scam artists and if you have never done it before they will see that and take full advantage.
Don’t worry about the scalping bit, if I can’t get an authentic ticket prior to the game then I won’t go.
As for them making the playoff game, and it being at Heinz field you are spot on (am optimistic though, heck I even have a few dollars on them winning the Superbowl! :D), however I understand that the ticket would be refunded in full if the game doesn’t happen (or happens elsewhere). Right?
Out of interest, what do other fans do? Do they just wait until the playoff schedule is finalised then rush for the tickets, or do most people book now and just get the refund?
I am still going to the East coast in Jan whatever happens, so I could end up being able to see the Steelers at Gillette Stadium!
Be careful! A friend of mine is a cop. He traveled to New York with a group of coworkers (all cops) to see basketball at Madison Square Garden. They bought tickets from a scalper near the gates. The tickets looked authenticate as could be, but were counterfit. The seller was dust in the wind.
If you are in the area and need a place to stay or anything, feel free to email me.
Get it now, if you have the disposable income to allow you to get it ahead of time. It’s hard enough to get a ticket to Heinz Field for a regular season game. The AFC Championship Game will sell out in no time.
I wouldn’t worry about there not being a game, though, because there’s one more after that.
It’s obviously a serious case of buyer beware. But I’ve bought tickets this way perhaps ten times, and in all cases for attractive prices.
You have to be willing to get shut out, so this isn’t a good approach for the OP. You are at a distinct advantage if you need just one ticket - pairs are often a lot more. Good buys early can be found by asking among the people streaming in from the parking lot (the regular fans, not the scalpers) - some of them will have an extra seat because their buddy got sick at the last minute, and they rarely ask a big premium. It helps if you can say “Look, I’m not buying the ticket so I can scalp it - I’m the one who’ll be sitting in the seat.”
Serious bargains are possible after the game has started, when scalpers are looking at “eating” their unsold tickets (though you would expect precious few of those at the AFC Championships).
Note that it is illegal in many areas to sell tickets at a game, and in some cases to buy them. It’s often the case that it’s only illegal if the price is more than a few dollars above face value. Rules and their enforcement vary widely.
Oh I used to do it all the time at Three Rivers Stadium. I was just saying it’s not a great idea if you’ve never done it before especially with the onset of couterfeit tickets. It used to be that you may get taken by paying too much but now it could be a fake ticket and not get in at all.
I wanted to point out the option without endorsing illegal activity
I think the law in PA is that it’s illegal if the amount exceeds the face value of the ticket period but is only strictly enforced on stadium grounds. Cross the street and nobody seems to care.
As I recall, the NFL does not sell playoff tickets ahead of time. They are “sold” the week of the game. However, most (nearly all) are automatically snapped up by season ticket holders.
Personally, I would find a listing of local Pittsburgh ticket brokers and go through them. Call around for the best deal on the best seat, haggle, etc, etc, and you should be okay. Is there a good Pittsburgh Steelers fan message board out there? I’m sure they’d have good advice on who’s legitimate and who to stay away from…
As of right now, both the Steeler and Patriots have the best record in the AFC at 12-1. The Steelers hold the tiebreaker for home field based on the fact they beat the Patriots a few weeks ago. If both teams win the rest of their games and the conference semi-final, the AFC Championship game will be played in Pittsburgh. The only way New England can host the title game would be if they finish with a better regular season record than the Steelers.
My aunt is a Steelers season-ticket holder and she already bought her playoff tickets. They arrived in the mail about a month ago. She paid $390 and got tickets for three playoff games. If the Steelers only play 1 home playoff game, they will subtract the amount she already paid from next year’s season-tickets price.
