Unfortunately, they will never learn this.
The two are those absolutely confirmed by the police. The BBC won’t start using the 40 figure until it’s a solid confirmed fact.
They’re reporting they are still digging out wreckage and there are bodies.
Dutch TV says 45 deaths. [it’s not a sensation channel]
Oh man. I’m so dreadfully sorry, GorillaMan and other UK dopers.
“Secret Organization group of al-Qaeda Organization in Europe”? :dubious:
I misquoted, sorry. That was from CNN.
I don’t know about that.
Because of 9/11 they got a holy war against the Americans on their home turf that we can’t win. And they basically got America to dethrone a secular dictator. Verdict’s still out on whether this is how they get their way.
Thanks, gum - I’m just assuming that everyone I know in London is OK, on the logic that I would have heard by now if it were not the case. It’s all you can do, I suppose.
Exactly - they want to provoke a holy war, make it Christian against Muslim both nationally and internationally. Let’s not play into their hands again. The whole thing since 9/11 should have been defined as law vs criminals.
33 deaths and counting according to live press conference.
I’m going to trust BBC. CNN tends to be more sensational than accurate… when it comes to terrorist attacks and tsunamis, they seem tastelessly preoccupied with body counts in their headlines. It’s disgusting.
My condolonces to anyone in London or with friends and loved ones in London. I have two friends in London and will assume the best until I learn otherwise.
My most profound sympathies to all our friends in G.B. and Godspeed in getting through this most senseless and unnecessary tragedy. It’s truly depressing every time we’re reminded of just how vile men have the capacity to be.
Fuck.
Damn, this is terrible.
My condolonces to those in the UK affected by this tragedy.
Another horrible, and fairly pointless, outrage. My sympathies to those affected in the UK.
The most recent news reports concerning the figure of 40 fatalities apparently were sourced from an unnamed US official in contact with British police. As I post this (approx. 10:30 AM eastern time) I don’t expect a firm figure from official UK sources for a few hours yet, as examination of the bombed trains in the confined spaces of the tube tunnels will be slow going.
I’ll refrain from playing the ‘guess the number of casualties’ game, but from the nature of the attacks it seems likely that the final tally of fatalities will be somewhat higher than what has been reported so far.
A huge Canadian fuck you … (we’re not polite all the time) to the terrorists.
And all of our best wishes to everyone in England right now.
This hatred is so futile. Terrorists hate Westerners. They kill Westerners. Westerners kill them. They hate Westerners more. Westerners hate them more. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is made a sadder, more worried place, not to mention the grieving families on both sides.
CNN is still saying 33 dead.
This is terrible. I hope my friends in London are OK. I hope my friend in Yorkshire didn’t go down to London to visit the BM…
I am sick with dismay and concern. I am enraged that “people” should feel justified in doing something like this. I am confident in the ability of the British police and military to find the perpetrators and see justice done.
My thoughts are with the UK today. I also hope that the G8 is not totally sidetracked by this (but I also don’t want it to be minimalized).
“World leaders condemn attacks, offer support”
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/07/07/world.reax/index.html
Defeating terrorism is like defeating crime, it ain’t going to happen. I fear that giving people the impression that we can actually do something to forever stop these events is damaging as all hell.
Bad: “We will defeat terrorists!”
Good: “We will find the people behind these acts”
I really thinks it makes a difference.
