London Terror Attacks

London is in my thoughts today. And I am so fuckin’ made with whoever did this to innocent people.

Yup it did. And right now is exactly the right time to say it.

I mean that. I’m not being sarcastic.

I mean. . .I wouldn’t say it to the family of a victim, but I suspect the victim’s families aren’t surfing the Dope right now. You just got jumped on by the “I want to out-empathy you” brigade.

The BBC site is saying that

Speculation: the bombers smuggled packages into the tunnels and set them with timers? Or rode the trains wearing bomb vests/backpacks and set them off mid-tunnel? If the latter, then I fear the casualties will be dreadfully higher.

I keep hoping for a day when these attacks stop everywhere.
My heart goes out to our British friends.
I hope the various forces can find the fiends behind this soon.

After such a joyous day yesterday…today this. :frowning:

London dopers check-in please. Our hopes and best thoughts are with all of you.

No need to ‘smuggle’ anything. The Madrid devices were in rucksacks, which were left on the trains, and triggered remotely by phone. This trigger method couldn’t have been done in the tunnels, but a more mundane timer could have been used. Yes it is possible that they were suicide attacks, but seems far less likely.

Cell service isn’t dead, possibly some landlines are damaged or a cell site or two were damaged, but cell service is most likely just over capacity. Same thing happened here on 9/11. Everyone is trying to call everyone they know and tell them they are alright. The Telco will reroute the landline calls and bring in emergency cell stations in short order.

CNN reported the following:

To whoever responsible: Fuck you. Fuck you and your mothers.

Hang in there, London, you’ve survived worse. I second the call for London Dopers to check in when they can – we’re thinking of you.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a system in place to block or restrict public access to the mobile phone networks, to ensure that the police, hospitals etc. can keep on using them uninterrupted.

According to CNN, Vodaphone has shunted much of it’s service to emergency response personnel needs.

From the BBC:

Jesus fucking christ.

My thoughts are with the Londopers.

Fucking asshole terrorists. This is not how you get your way, morons.

Oh gad. I just heard. I was asleep, of all things.

I’m so sorry, people from London and all over the UK. You’re in my thoughts.
Hang in there. :frowning:
Please, UK dopers, keep us up to date?

Yes. And a heartfelt ‘Fuck you’ to the killers. Hope you’re proud of yourselves, you cowardly shits.

First, my sympathy to the Londoners…

One has to wonder about the timing: G8 meeting? Olympics announcement? Hard to imagine it could be the latter, since that was so recent. But it sure will put a damper on the upcoming Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

My heart and thoughts go out to all the UK Dopers, and to anyone waiting anxiously by the phone to hear from a loved one who was in London.

Why?

9/11 was way worse and closer to the Olympics and IN THE SAME COUNTRY and I don’t think it put a damper on them.

let me add my hearty FUCK YOU to the terrorist coward running dogs (to borrow a page from their lingo) that performed this brutal act of cowardice, my thoughts and (even though i’m not the religious type) prayers are with Londoners, lets hope the death toll doesn’t rise past it’s current estimate

my best freind from college is originally from Liverpool, his parents still live there (he’s here in the States in Virginia), as soon as i heard the news, i was on the phone to him to see if his family’s okay, i know Liverpool isn’t in the London area, but i felt i needed to call with my sympathies/support, if i had his parents phone number, i’d ring them directly…

40? The BBC web site still says 2.

My greatest sympathies to the Londoners.

“My God, not again…” is the only thought echoing through my mind as I see the check-in threads spring up on every online community I’m a member of, as people in my office call relatives and friends in London, as I see the news reports rolling in.

Terrible, truly terrible.

40 wouldn’t surprise me though. Two seems way too low for so many bombs in confined spaces.
