Long time lurker comes to life

Welcome! I see that things* have already started. I’ll get the umbrella**.

[sub]*That’s one way to refer to them…
**For me. For the participants, a bathing suit is more appropriate.[/sub]

I know! I thought it would be cute to call myself Dung Beetle, and now these beetles are all the time trying to…

ahem At any rate, welcome aboard, **Like Fry ** and Gundam_Cricket!

Members get a 5 minute edit window and then our spilling messhats beome permenent.

Waivers? Waivers?!, We DON’T NEED NO STINKIN’ Waivers!

Mmmmm, baja fresh for lunch, almost better than popplers.

Do we get popplers during the initiation? or did Mankind for Ethical Animal Treatment put a stop to that?

Fry

After the initiation is over, perhaps.

You really don’t want to eat anything before – or during – the initiation.

norinew, I forget - are we using the mariachi band for initiations at the moment? Or did their contract run out?

Gundan_Cricket, what are your other dork-defining hobbies? However weird or obscure it may be, chances are pretty good that someone else on this board is interested in it.

Their contract expired April 3rd. We’ve got a second-rate Bob Marley cover band for now.

That’s actually another reason for why I intend to join; I figured with all the similarities in sense of humor and post topics there were probably a fair amount of people interested in the same sort of stuff as I.

Quick List:

  • video/tabletop/board/PC gaming
  • anime
  • straight dope

I also have a tendency to finish my work quickly and get bored, so I spend a lot of time finding random humorous websites akin to what you’d expect to find through Weird Earl’s. I’m also a big fan of commercials; I remember there used to be a website called adcritic where you could watch funny commercials from all over the world, but they started charging for it, then youtube came along so I started watching stuff there instead.

I used to DJ at some of the nightclubs in my area, but I went on hiatus so I’m trying to get back into that. Due to the “scene” I only ever played hip-hop and retro, but my first love is dance/techno. DJing retro nights was ridiculously fun, though.

Lastly, I play WoW (World of Warcraft for those not sucked into it), and have also played various other MMOs like it. Additionally I’ve always been an avid fan of collectible card games such as Magic, Netrunner, etc.

I agree with the bored at work bit, I tend to be able to get most of my stuff done quick, not counting the thurs fri prior to payday week, then I get slammed as all the extra R/O’s come in that need to get closed out so employees can get payed. Of course, that also means I spend my days staring at job code listings, finding warranty codes, and creating general bs when techs fail to leave proper notes. Then there is all the minor corrections to R/O’s mostly closed out by the advisors and the cashiers office. This can all get thrown to extreme chaos when a small manufacturer that we also sell for has a failure on their bike as all their procedures are not entirely similar, but require much greater oversite.

ugh, I think im ranting in the wrong section.

Im here for the freedom and wonder and fun that the SDMB has shown itself to be over the years of my partial lurking, which it has conviently shown yet again in this thread. Im a nerd/geek/dweeb/something, and I want to be able to spend time with others of the same ilk.

Welcome Like Fry and Gundam_Cricket!

I thought you both were going to say something really nerdy/geeky/dweeby, but it sounds like normal fare for around here. Doesn’t that mean it’s just plain normal?

I hope you both have a great time here.

What is really nerdy/geeky/dweeby?

Thanks again for all the warm welcomes.
Fry

Squid: Check
Goat: Check
Pie: Late but check
Vaseline: …oops

Oh, and a word to the wise, dont eat my cooking :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, that was the question. I could not imagine anything really nerdy/geeky/dweeby that you could come up with that would be out of the ordinary here. If you did, that would definitely be noteworthy. And being noteworthy here is sometimes good and sometimes not. So perhaps it’s good that you fit right in.

Now where’s that pie?
