Happy Vernal Equinox! Or Happy Autumnal Equinox for all MMPers south of the equator! (We’re not hemispherists here!)
I declare that we should do a little spring cleaning in honor of nature’s rebirth (or in honor of the impending relief from oppressive summer heat.) Nothing excessive, mind you, just a little tidying in our lives to greet the new seasons.
As for me, I start by throwing out the MMP I’d originally written, since it was pretty whiney, and it didn’t seem appropriate when I re-read it this morning. So out the window it goes! (OK, it’s still stored. I may re-use it some day. But not today.)
And in its place, I’m planting flowers of joy and love and happiness! And ice cream for all! And cuddly puppies and kitties all around!
Your turn - make your spring declaration. Toss something bad. Start something nice.
Sending me chocolate would be nice, for example.
Happy First Day of Spring!! (or Autumn!!)
<flinging confetti and rose petals with wild and reckless abandon>
Me…I’ll be working on my list from Saturday. Didn’t get to the part about cleaning the fridge. So…I’m thinking that’ll happen today when I get home from work. And then I’ll go and restock with any food that might actually be necessary.
I’d love to clean out the garden; maybe I’ll get home before it gets cold today and the WINTER storm moves in. (Apparently no one told the weather about the equinox.)
My speaking engagement this morning isn’t till 10. I slept in (till 6:45) and will now have a leisurely breakfast before putting together my notes. (I’m recycling a previous talk, so it’s not a biggie). It occurs to me that I have no idea how much time I have. Guess I should try to find the organizer and see when the next speaker starts.
Spring done sprung! YEHAAA!!! How’s that? I do have one Spring cleaning effort underway today. My house and screened porch and deck are getting pressure washed. That includes the driveway, walkway and concrete around the pool as well. So, I’ll have a sparkly clean house on the outside when I get home today. My other projects include having the yard sprayed and cleaning out the big storage building. Ok, cleaning out the storage building is really the only one that will require any actual exertion on my part, but still they all three count. In the past I have rented a pressure washer and done it myself and have shelled out big bucks buying weed and feed and doing the yard myself, but this year, I’m all about letting others do it in exchange for some money. I’m happy, they’re happy, so it’s all good. Actually, it may be that the pressure washing and yard spraying both get done today. That would be good, I guess. Not that it matters all that much cause I ain’t gotta be there for either one to happen.
I can tell it’s Spring here. Know how? Pine pollen! Everywhere! I don’t even have any pine trees in my yard yet I get pine pollen. My neighbors need to train their trees to not spread pollen all over my place, dagnabbit! The weather around here will hover in the high 60’s to low 70’s this week with lows in the high 40’s to mid 50’s. That’s actually a little bit cool for this time of year. I expect by next week we’ll be having highs in the 80’s and lows in the 60’s. Much better!
Good morning, everybody! This weekend, I celebrated the coming of spring in true geek fashion: I watched Star Wars. Episodes IV, V, and VI, plus both volumes of the Clone Wars animated series. I expect to watch EpIII tonight, because there’s really no need to watch the first two, says I.
Lunch with Spats was delightful, as were the pancakes. For a growing boy, he sure can’t put away much food.
Saturday, I took me to the eye doctor and found out that my asthigmatism has grown back. The Lasik doctor told me it was a possibility, and I only need to wear the glasses when I feel I need to wear them, so I’m not upset about it. In fact, I kinda missed wearing glasses. I’m a total dork.
Spring cleaning… hmm… guess I should think about that. I think it’s going to get put on hold though and combined with the Impending Move. Why clean twice??
KeithT left this morning. We had a great week together, topped off by our trip to Montreal over the weekend. We got to meet our very own Dopers matt_mcl, Hamish, and detop. Lotsa fun. And just for **Lissla **we ate some poutine! Plus we had really yummy waffles at the B&B where we stayed. And way too much other food. Back to healthy eating today! It’s going to be lonely at chez taxi (See I even learned me some French over the weekend!) without **KeithT **around though.
Drae, I resemble that remark. :dubious: I mean c’mon, those pancakes were HUGE. Ginormous, even. Anyway.
Yes, I suppose spring is finally here. I had been holding out for one last surge of winter, because winter was so lacking this year. Ah well. Spring! Yay! And what could be better for spring than some spring meat? That’s right, nothing:
Hi MMPers! My weekend was okay, except Me, Hubby, and my oldest daughter have a bad chest cold. I called in to work yesterday, and kept daughter home from school today. Youngest daughter was all right, though, so she got to go to school.
I saw sumpin’ weird this weekend, there was water fallin’ from the sky! It was nice to get some rain although it wasn’t enough. The wind is supposed to blow really bad today, so it will dry us out.
As for spring cleaning, mine is gonna have to wait until the first week in April, 'cause I will be on vacation, and will have the time then.
I am really jealous of all the MMP meetings, I don’t think there are any of you guys down here!
Oldest daughter just got up, so I gotta run. One more thing, Spats, yummmm ham.
Hey all! Spring’s about, but not quite done here. We’re just about into Summer, all we need is the humidity (please, Mother Nature, prove me wrong). We had a very nice weekend, watched HP and the Goblet of Fire at home on Friday night. Then we had baseball and Kid’s Night Out on Saturday, so the Mrs and I got to go to Ybor and listen to some decent Latin Jazz. Sunday was the big end of the season soccer party and the kids got filthy and had a blast. They had a bonfire which is a bit bizarre when it’s 80 degrees out, but how else are you going to roast marshmallows? This week is our Spring Break but we’re working so it means we have to line up someone to watch the kids all week. Today it’s the Bluesdaughter, so they’re in good hands.
SmithWife is having a rough morning with Cinderella and Bam Bam. Seems Cinderella thought it would be a good idea to take off Bam Bam’s diaper for him after breakfast. Poo ensues. All over the carpet, couch, and kids. SmithWife was having a bad morning anyhow - this was just the icing on the cake (in a manner of speaking). I walked into multiple crises here at the Office this morning, as well - the phones are down, there have been at least two fire alarms, a data circuit to France is down. I have not yet been dragged into any of these issues. The SmithFamily Poo Party happened after I left, and the stuff at the office started before I got in.
It’s too late for the Ides Of March. Must just be shit luck.
Dang Smitty! If anybodies ever had a reason to go hide under the bed it’s the Mrs. and you. That’s what I say I’m gonna do when bad stuff happens… go home and hide under the bed til it goes away.
Bobbio as far as I know the groundbreaking went great. See, I didn’t make it to the actual ceremony because I was stuck finishing up cooking for the big dinner. Actually I was making smashed taters (N.O.T.), filling glasses with ice, getting food into steamer tables and all that jazz. Well, not all by myself except for the tater (N.O.T.) making which I did all by myself. I even figured out how to use the honkin’ great big stand mixer thing. That was fun. The taters (oh, you know!) were chocked full of cream, butter and cheese. Like I said in last week’s MMP, those things coulda clogged arteries up to ten miles away. They were gooooooooooooooood though. So was the Irish (it is too!) stew. The gravy was just right. If the gravy ain’t right, might as well throw it away I always say. Anyways, much food was prepared and consumed, so all in all, it was a good day. I was tired on Satiddy though. Did as little as possible all day.
I have not had even one phone call today. How weird! I shouldn’t post this or even think it, cause now I will receive constant phone calls the rest of the day.
Yay! Spring is sprung! It’s supposed to be another beautiful day here, even warmer than yesterday. Highs are supposed to reach 58. Lawd! We’re havin’ a regular heatwave here!
We took our boat out for the first time this year. It was very beautiful out. The eagles were swooping down over the water, as were the geese and some other assorted fowl.
I need to do some serious spring cleaning, but it’ll have to wait. By the time I get home, work out on the treadmill, cook and eat dinner, and do a load of laundry or two, it’s going on 8:00 or 8:30. I’d like to sit my butt down and relax at some point during the day, so that’s when I do it.
Well, need to check my e-mail. There will be drama in the office today. I’ll have 'splain later.
I close my office door, put my head-set on, and if anyone comes to my window, I mouth the words “conference call”. I’m doing it right now, as a matter of fact, with the Soundtrack to The Thomas Crown Affair playing softly in the background. Not exactly a Carribean Vacation, but it beats working.
Speaking of weird office stuff… When I got in this morning (having been off on Friday), I had a message from a HR person at a local place regarding a reference on a former co-worker. “How weird”, thinks I, “especially since I’m one of the reasons he was fired.” “Surely”, I further thinks to myself, “he has not given me as a personal reference.” Oh well, it’s a HR problem, not mine. Then I get to thinking about it. See, I happen to know the person who is doing the job the ex co-worker is applying for. I happen to know said person is retiring at the end of the month, so maybe he told the HR folks to call me. Still, not something I should be doing. Besides I never give out info beyond employment dates anyways. So, now I’m curious as to whether or not I’ll get a call back to find out just exactly why I got called in the first place. Nuttin’ like a little mystery to heighten the day.
We got an early start on spring at the Probe house. I’ve been prepping the garden off and on for the last couple weeks when the weather would let me. Yesterday we planted about 130 Sunflowers in little Jiffy pellets. Now it a race to get the garden finished before the plants need to go out! We also made a trip to our favorite nursery and bought another blown glass fountain head for the pond. I’ll post some pics when I get them installed. (promise)
I’m thinking I’ll have to leave work early, I have a bad case of spring fever and the weather is perfect.
Happy spring! The sky is blue, and it’s going to be a nice day. Even it’s a Monday. And I have to go to work after taking three days off plus the weekend. I dread the in-box, oh, do I dread the in-box. But the day will go by quickly due to the amount of work I’m certain to face.
This is the first working weekday with puppy. Daddy’s going to take her to work (he has his own business). Boy, I hope it’s not going to be too much for Daddy–he doesn’t need the stress. Oops. Because it was me that instigated finally getting the puppy after we both have been loving dogs from afar. My husband does indulge me greatly.
Puppy has been walked this morning! Not a very long walk, but around the “block”. Enough to produce puppy poop! Yay for puppy poops produced in proper places. And yep, I picked up poop and proudly p… p… p… took it home.
Spring cleaning definitely needs to be done here. I have been working on the closet a little bit–seeing what clothes I might be able to realistically wear, and what need to go out. The cleaning I was supposed to do yesterday I vow to tackle one job at a time this week after work. Puppy must come first for the next while.
Okay, well in honor of the first day of spring (and cause fcm said so) I have decided to chuck my bad attitude about my diet and be happy with where I am at. I am a size eight right now and Mr. Anachi says a breeze would blow me away if I’m not careful. (He’s nice that way.) I don’t think that’s too bad for a nearly 58-year-old woman. I’m still gonna watch what I eat and exercise every day but I’m not gonna get all depressed if I don’t lose anything. So there!
Yep, there’s yellow pollen everwhere here, too. It goes nicely with the oak tree fuzz. Somehow it makes everything all cheerful-like and sunny. I’m just glad it’s gonna be in the mid 80s all week. YAY!
For some reason Mr. Anachi and I were talking about Al Pacino’s version of Scarface on Friday and, wooden you know, it was on TV yesterday. And I watched the whole thing. I wanted to see the scene where he buries his nose in the mountain of cocaine cause it really tickled me the first time I saw it. Okay, I have a bizarre sense of humor.
smitty, poo ensuing is number one reason for ditching carpet in favor of tile. I’m just sayin…
