Look! It's the first MMP of spring!!

Rose: I can’t afford to lose 80 lb NOW. I’d become like anti-matter or something. I could stand 20 more or so, but 80 would turn me into negative human. I WAS 80 lb heavier, but I lost it. I doubt my director would have cast me in a role wher I’m supposed to wear a teeny black dress if I were still at my high weight. Also- ooooh, sparkly! I love your choir outfit!

VunderBob: I love that e-mail! that one’s definitely getting spread around a bit.

Drae: Don’t sweat(heh) the water thing too much… Just don’t drink anything BUT water. No soda or anything. And if you can, make sure you’ve got something in your stomach. It does make a difference. Good luck!

daffodils and crocuses and talk of pretty things! It’s a bit warmer today than it has been, but not a lot.

I keep trying to sleep, but I can’t. :frowning: I feel like I’m going to barf. I don’t think I’ll end up sleeping tonight at all. Lovely.

Oh, Dottie. :smack: That’s what I get for just skimming the posts as I had yesterday(?) morning

Dotster, you may have mentioned it but I’m old and I forget - whereabouts are you from? I don’t need an address or even a city, if you’re inclined to be private, but a state/area of the country would be nice. Because I’m nosey.

rose - I luuuuuurve the chorus duds!! Red and sparkley are two of my favorite things. Well, OK, I’m not a huge fan of sparkley, but I do love red. And I love to sing. I should probably look to see if there’s a chorus of some sort around here.

I’m a little stiff this morning from my exertions last night. I’m talking about the painting, you pervs!!! :stuck_out_tongue: And I’m going to wait till it’s just a bit lighter out before I go back to priming. FCD overdid it and he was really hurting - plus he was helping to paint after his PT - he really shoulda been relaxing, but you can’t tell him anything! I do think he’ll chill today. He’s still sleeping, which is good, and he really hates to paint. He was only in there because he felt guilty, even tho I told him to go away (in the nicest words possible) He’s such a guy!

So I’ll go back to paint in a bit. I’ve also got to go into the attic and get the roll of fabric that I intend to use for the drapes and bedcover - I hope the colors go with the wall. If the green is just a bit too blue, it won’t work. Here’s hoping… Oh, and I ordered drapes for the soon-to-be-former-red-room. The carpet will stay red a bit longer - we’ll carpet all three bedrooms at the same time, so it’ll be a while. But the red room will become the blue room. The drapes are patterned, but the predominant color is blue. Once they arrive, we’ll use them to select the wall color. And I’ll probably go with solid navy for the bedspread - we shall see. But that’s the next room. Gotta finish the green-formerly-yellow room.

I took some “before” pics for comparison. When I take the “after” pics, I’ll post them all for your amusement and amazement. Because I know many of you live vicariously through me. That’s OK, I don’t mind.

And welcome to the lair of the Cool Kids, rubymermaid! I noticed your post but missed the opportunity to say hi earlier. So HI!

Rue - I hope you’re keeping a private notebook of all the, um, characters you encounter at work. I see a best-seller with an option on a mini-series there! Incidentally, I think I told you eons ago, prolly in email, that my youngest sis used to work as a vet’s assistant when she dropped out of college 20-some years ago. She wasn’t motivated enough to pursue a degree, so when the old guy who hired her retired, she couldn’t find another job with experience only, and she went into bartending. Fast forward to a few weeks ago - she’s got a new foundling dog - a Pom. When she took it to her vet for check and shots and stuff, she did the stuff the vet’s assistant would normally do, and the vet asked her if she wanted a job. She’s not looking for full-time work, but she put in an app and she may get called when then need a fill-in or something. And even tho you don’t know my sister and probably don’t care about this story, I had to share anyway.

FCM - one of these has to be near you

yeah - the one in Prince Fred is about 40 minutes away. But I prefer mixed choruses when I sing, and for pure listening, I love a men’s group. Not that I dislike women’s groups, but there’s something about the feel of an all-male vocal ensemble that really captures me.

I just did a search and these guys are not only closer, they do the kind of music I love! I may have to check them out!

Oh yeah - and second call for next week’s MMP starter! C’mon, it’s not hard. You can even write it up now and post it after midnight Sunday night. It doesn’t even have to be about anything.

Who’ll have a go at it?

I could regale y’all with tales of a Bass Fishing Tournament if everyone so desires. Or, maybe this is a threat to make somebody step forward and volunteer. I’m good either way. You can hear about bbq, beer, big fish and assorted other doin’s, which may include some butt freezing because it’ll be in the 60s with wind advisories for the lake.

Rosie love all the red sparklies! So bright and shiny! OOOOOOOH!!!

Today I get to meet about finances and probably get to go check out the progress of ramps being built on our newest (well, not a new house but new for us, we bought an existing house) residence. I already made the contractor redo the switchback on the back ramp because it was not wide enough. Y’all can imagine how forward he looks to seeing me. Specially he doesn’t get paid til I approve the final work.

I hereby nominate swampy to regale us with the Official Gay Man’s View of the Manly Pasttime of Bass Fishing with Associated Beer Drinkin’, Butt Scratchin’ and Bodily Noise Makin’!

All opposed, just hush yo’ mouf!

That’s settled. Carry on.

How you doin’?

Mornin’, folkses. Happy Friday!!!

Not much going on. This office is dead today. I’m already planning on leaving early, since I got here late.

What a pretty dress, Rosie!

I can’t wait to hear all about bass fishing. It’s been ages since I went fishing. I’m a salt water type of girl, though. Mmm, speckled trout…

rose, love the duds. Sounds like the concert went really well, too.

I second a Bass Fishing MMP. You’ve, uh, hooked my interest.

In other news, I’m having lunch on Saturday with Mika and taxi, who haven’t been around here as much lately. Detailed report to follow.

This morning I’m going to see one of RPI’s physics professors about applying to RPI’s grad program. If nothing else happens, I’m virtually assured a spot in the Master’s program, and hanging around here for another year or two I can deal with. Speaking of other grad schools, no word yet. However, no rejections either. What that means is by this point they’ve already made offers to their first round of choices, probably about twice as many as they have spots for students. That sounds bad, but only about a third of those will accept, and then they offer the rest to people like me. I need to start making phone calls; what that does is reaffirm that I’m still looking for acceptances and I’m still very interested in attending their program.

It’s gonna be a photo finish, folks. Hang on to your hats. Oh, and here’s the last Meat of the Day …

Yup, it’s a twofer!

**Spats ** - last night was just the dress rehearsal - competition is next weekend in Philly - in fact **twickster ** and some other Philly Dopers are meeting me for dinner Friday night
btw - what will your degree be in? maybe you could go for a second masters when you fnish this one and stay in school another few years, … and going, and going, and going

sigh I want you all to know that I’m crazy. I’m crazy and anxious and I should just sit down, calm down, and shut the hell up.

Thank you.

Anyhoo, Roomie’s off to Maine for the weekend, and I’ve got the parents coming up to visit tomorrow. They haven’t seen the house yet, so tonight will be spent cleaning, provided I don’t just take a Xanax and confine myself to the couch. It’s a real shame–I had originally been scheduled to leave at 1 today because I was supposed to go to Maine too, but now I’m not going, and I said “No, I can stay all day” because I’m an idiot.

That is all.

I’ll be getting a Bachelor of Science in Physics. Some people do manage to stay in grad school a long, long time, although not usually in physics, where once the seven year mark rolls around, whether you’re done or not, you’re done.

I have porked myself in front of my monitor each day waiting for Spats to reveal each meat of the day. I had no beef with any of his choices so I have mutton left to say.

So, I guess I need to pay attention and stuff to what goes on tomorrow at the tournament. I will. I promise. I hope there’ll be some weird people to tell about. What am I saying! There will be people who hang around all day just to find out who wins the big prize, so of course there will be weird people hangin’ around.

I’m surprised you didn’t chicken out, you turkey.

Hey! I’ve been around. I’ve been posting all week! You need to read the MMP more closely, mister! :stuck_out_tongue:

I am looking forward to our Doper lunch this weekend. That’s two Doper meals in two weeks! Envy me!

I really want to be in a chorus again like rosie! But I’ve gotta find a chorus that doesn’t require auditions. I can’t sing if I can’t hear someone else singing the notes I’m supposed to sing. So in a solo audition I just squeek. It’s awful. And no one wants me then. But really, I have a good voice! Just put me next to someone else and I’m fine. I use to belong to this group, which was just for fun, no competitions or anything, and it was great. But it’s a bit too far away, and it’ll be even further when I’m in MN! ::sigh:: I miss singing! (OK, so I am in my church choir, but it’s just not the same.)

Thanks for the link GT. I’ll go check them out. I don’t think I’ve applied for anything at United Health yet. It may be the one company in Mpls that I’ve missed!

:: points to the “as much” qualifier in his original statement ::

**taxi ** - when I get home, I’ll email you a few reassurances about how the auditions really work so you won’t be as asceered

Good morning all and HAPPY, HAPPY FRIDAY!

I got into work early today and have been clearing out my email, etc.

rose, red is my favorite color and you looked smashing!

FCM, please bottle up some of that energy and drive that seems to pervade your every pore and send some to me. I could really use it. I admire how much you seem to accomplish.

I’m all up for hearing about the gay take on the manly bass fishin, butt-scratchin, fartin’ contest weekend.

My TDY is arrangements are starting to shape up, however, the whole rental car thing is up in the air. They seem to think that since my classes are supposedly across the street from hotel, I don’t require a rental car. Um, says I, what about eating? Surely, they don’t expect me to eat in the hotel restaurant every day for every meal.

I’ve been trying to figure out the whole Metro thingie. It appears the closest Metro station is 4 miles from my hotel. I was also trying to figure out bus routes and stuff. It’s all kind of confusing for me because:

a. I haven’t really done the whole public transpo thing since high school.

b. I’m a very visual person. However, the maps are sort of misleading (to me) because I can’t really visualize the area, having never been there.

I’ll be sure to post more as I know more, because I’d really, really, really like to meet up with some of you Dopers in that area. I’ll be staying at the Hampton Inn in Alexandria, VA. It’s address is 4800 Leesburg Pike.

Well, I better actually do some work again.
