Looking for a word to denote a person who does not want others to succeed

Hi,
I am looking for words to describe the following kinds of people:

  1. Someone who does not want others to succeed
  2. Someone who pretends/gives the outward appearance of helping someone, but in reality does not or simply wants to make a person dependent on him/her.

If there isn’t one adjective to describe such people, perhaps you can suggest some fictional characters that display such characteristics.

I look forward to your responses.

Reported for forum change.

“Dog in the manger” is about right for definition 1.

This doesn’t really seem to be about this board, so I’m going to move it to IMHO.

Hater

“Hater”

Too quick for you, pancakes3. Don’t hate.

The answer is obvious … so much so that I’m not going to even say it.

But if it was in a crossword puzzle it would be ten letters.

Codependent.

sociopath.

moderator?

Why are you such a “hater”? … err… “moderator hater”

Politician.

Hater

Bingo! Ten letters.

Or, I’m going to go with bureaucrat.

My mother.

Saboteur.

Flavors of passive aggressive, too.

Dang.

My friend from the south would say “Crabs in a pot” every time we tried to bring him down. I’ll submit that instead then.

Schadenfreude is not quite correct but it part of the way there.

backstabber? for the proactive kind?
