I first saw this film a few years ago. I’m including as much info as I can remember here:
I remember this movie was black and white and made around 1948 to 1952. I thought it may have stared Robert Mitchum or someone similar to him. It was a Western and opened
with the hero in a small jail. An older lady pretends to be his relative (maybe his aunt) and drops off a package with maybe a cake and file or some blanket that can be
unraveled and he uses the thread to espcape. He meets a man with a very strange name. Sounds like a Swedish or Norwegian name. Maybe something like “Plooten Lumset”. That is
not it but it just sounds as weird as that. I seem to remember the movie ends with the hero riding out to some remote location where he is killed by a bunch of armed men.
The only other thing I seem to remember is that the villian of the movie turned out to be this same man with the strange sounding name and the climax of the film involves the hero and villian having a gunfight on top of a moving train. I wish I had more info for you but sadly, I don’t.
