I need to obtain a student visa to visit Italy, and in order to do so one of the things I need to have is:
“proof of health insurance coverage, unlimited and worldwide: the policy coverage must indicate that the Italian provider will be paid directly by Insurance Company.”
From here. Emphasis mine.
I’ve been googling around for travel health insurance that fulfills this requirement and I haven’t had much luck, it seems like everyone will either reimburse me or pay the foreign provider, and so doesn’t guarantee that they will pay the foreign provider. I have to call these folks tomorrow and see if the coverage they offer through Atlas International qualifies, if it doesn’t I am out of options as far as I can tell from the web. Can anyone help me? It would really help if this were a company I could deal with in English (FYI I don’t speak Italian, the program I need the visa for is conducted entirely in English) and also one that could send me the insurance card and policy info fairly quickly, as I am (unfortunately, and through no lack of investigation into requirements on my own; apparently, a new law has just been passed which makes my program of study one which requires a student visa) rather short on time to get the visa and need to submit this proof of insurance by May 19th if possible.
I plan on talking to the consulate tomorrow, but also if anyone could offer advice on whether the “unlimited and worldwide” part means I also have to send proof of my US insurance, since most travel supplements aren’t effective in the home country, or if I’m just needlessly complicating this. Or advice on any other aspect of the list on the first linked page.
I thought about putting this in GQ but I didn’t think it was “definitively answerable” enough. So IMHO it is.
