Looking to the East - An MMP

Oh, I forgot, I had an amusing story to tell. So I got home today around 8:30am, still in somewhat of a hungover daze. After changing my clothes I wandered into the bathroom to take a shower. I knew Cloud Maiden’s sister had flown in last night so I wasn’t too surprised to see random unfamiliar tolietries in my bathroom, but I noticed the floor was littered with bandage packages, and that there was a peroxide bottle next to the sink. After taking my shower and going into the kitchen to make some coffee, I then found the kitchen littered with sliced cheese that was now stale, an almost all used up stick of butter, and a half-eaten sandwich. The knife lay askew on the cutting board, amidst the cheese.

 :dubious:

Turns out that Cloud Maiden’s sister cut her finger while slicing cheese yesterday, which completely freaked Cloud Maiden out so much that she couldn’t finish her sandwich (she’s not good with blood). They borrowed first aid supplies from the guys downstairs, but the smell of peroxide made CM’s sister nauseous, so both of them left the kitchen in its chaotic state and went to bed.

I suppose it could have been worse.

rigs, this is a grobag! THE best thing for active sleepers like my girl!

Oh, my! That sounds like a mess, Haze. Although I guess it could have been worse.

So…are there doggie trainers out there to get puppies in shape?

This morning, we set up Halloween decorations at the park where I volunteer. Came home and took a nap. Now I’m cleaning up before my brother gets here in a couple hours (he’s running in the Columbus marathon tomorrow morning…).

Off to clean some more…

Is it like an infant sack–the kind that has a large open well, I suppose you’d call it a hem or bottom? I didn’t know that having blankets was a problem [sub]all my kids had blankets…should I have retroactive guilt?[/sub]
I didn’t use those. I liked the snap close sleepers. Whatever HRH likes, HRH gets!

perfectly lovely day today. put in a few hours at work, made a significant dent in a looming project, so yay!, got my hair done, then I did one of my most favorite things on a day like today: I went to the park and sat in the car, radio on, windows open, did a few puzzles and dozed off for half an hour. I am home, sleepy, and done for the day - I think I shall nap until it’s time to go to sleep

My offer letter just arrived via FedEx. I was quite surprised to hear the FedEx truck on a Saturday, and even more surprised when it stopped in front of my house. Their benefits are quite impressive. Unlimited sick time, an option to purchase extra vacation days (which are real, genuine vacation days with the unlimited sick time), personal days in addition to vacation days, short and long term disability, plus all the usual medical/dental/vision coverage. Wow. Somebody pinch me - a job I like that: pays well, has great benefits, great co-workers, and a boss that takes care of her reports.

I went to the post office this morning and was there for at least half an hour. Everything seems to have become so automated, people only come in for the hard things now. Today seemed to be primarily international shipping day, so the line was long and slow moving. Postage was only $15.20 First Class to Finland, so that wasn’t too bad.

Then I had to go to the bank, where I was momentarily flummoxed by the new ATM program. My bank has added “most often performed actions” buttons, which I found cool, but also somehow disturbing. I don’t know if I like how closely we’re being tracked by everything these days.

 Will no longer whine about postage to UK.
Am back from Target. The cover charge today was $118. But the sons have underwear, socks and #2 son has jeans that fit him and long sleeved shirts for the winter.
You all know that one instructor I can’t stand? She had an assignment due on Sunday (tomorrow), so I busted my butt to get it done last night so that I could have a stress free weekend. Well, she emailed us today to say that she is “tired” and now the assignment is NOT due until Wednesday. 5 of us have already turned it in. Grrrrrr.

<starts to make voodoo doll that resembles instructor>

Dayam! I’m moving to California!

It was actually a package, not a letter. My choices were $15.20 for First Class, which takes 10 - 15 days, or $56.75 for Global Express in 2 - 3 days. Um, no. The package is only worth $50. I was going to send everything all at once, but apparently she’ll be taxed on a gift valued over 40 euros, so I’m sending multiple packages.

Target exit fee was only $56 today. People were irate because there were obnoxious people out front soliciting, something Target doesn’t allow. The San Jose PD had been called, but solicitors at Target are not a high priority. Ironically, one of their causes was eminent domain. Talk about being unclear on the concept.

I noticed that we are getting a Sweet Tomatoes soon. Yay! While I’m for a vibrant downtown and all, that ship sailed decades ago, so I’ll take soul-less strip malls over shuttered canning factories any day.

Living 80 miles from the nearest Target, my entry fees can get scary quick – one time, it was just over $300! But it was all stuff I genuinely needed, and it was cheaper than either the same or similar things I can get here. I need to make another trip down there at the beginning of the month, road condition permitting (it should be still okay) for some things. And then until spring I’ll catch rides with people with experience driving in the local winter who have trucks!

I’m still mad at the people who said it was going to snow, because it hasn’t yet today. Though it looks like there’s a tiny possibility of something blowing up to the west and arriving here. I was planning on sitting around watching it snow today, dammit! (I’m sure by January I will be swearing at the snow, but it’s still fun. Nyah.)

Everything has been going very well for MT on her trip, I talked to her earlier. I’m sure she’ll report in once she can get back to her computer. I must convince her to get a laptop, for the MMP if nothing else!

Whew - what a day this has been. All of the laundry is done. All of the glazing is done. I just started the kiln. The Colonel made supper. All that remains for today is to put fresh sheets on the bed.

I killed my camoflaged doggy - really pissed me off. I broke his tongue off, cracked part of his neck, and snapped the end of his tail off. But I made a liberal application of glaze as an adhesive and I’m hoping it won’t look too terrible. We shall see. I was right about the mugs for my sister, too - no way they’ve have fit. So I’ve already got stuff for my next load.

I’ll pack in the morning, and head to National Airport about 11-ish. Wish I had a laptop to take. Oh well…

I came home from my errands this morning to find my block FULL of parked cars. The next door neighbors were having a kid’s Halloween party, there had to be 50 kids there, none older than about 10.

Too many kidlings in one place.

Isn’t there a rule about everyone having laptops? How long will you be gone, FCM. I remember that it’ll be several days, but don’t remember exactly.

Glad to hear MT is having a nice time. Sorry for the lack of snow where you are, though, snowbunny. Can we call you that if there isn’t any snow yet?

Wow, those are amazing benefits, Jahdra! You need to work there forever and get all of us jobs there.

I’m getting up early to go watch Bro run in the marathon (I’m going to stop by work in the middle and get some stuff done.), so I’m off to beddie bye already.

Lovely Saturday evening to those who are still up…

For a moment this part made me go   until I realized you weren’t talking about an acutal dog.

I’m home alone with two cats at the moment, feeling slightly blue but in a self-indulgent kind of way, which isn’t altogether unpleasant. I tried playing Regina Spektor’s “On the Radio” on the guitar and I like the way it sounds. It’s always nice to add a song to my limited selection of “perform for friends” songlist.

Congrats on the job + benefits, Jahdra! I need to find one of those myself.

Feel better soon, Some1. :: blows get-better kiss ::

Those who are still up? It’s only a bit after 8 here, sheesh.

I honestly don’t know how I managed without this computer. The only problem is that when my computer bag is packed it’s usually the heaviest bag I take when I travel.

There will be snow. After all, it’s only October. And we’ve already had some. It’s just that I’m still in the snow=fun mindset, and now I feel somewhat better about the prospect of driving in it (to a point – there are free buses for the days I just can’t do it) so I feel quite ready for it to arrive.

Have a nice trip / feel better soon / I hope it snows / hope the Halloween party breaks up soon…

That should cover everyone for a little while.
I went out and stood in the moonlight for awhile on my front porch. It is so gorgeous out tonight–soft breeze, about 65, moon and starlight. How many of these nights does one person get in a lifetime? Possibly too many to count, but do we pay attention to them? I hope I do. I hope you all have magical nights as well.
Sweet dreams, all.

I am mildly pissed with Cloud Maiden right now - she is out of cat food. And she is not here. And Biddy shouldn’t be eating Olive’s food because she eats senior food while Olive eats adult. Obviously I’m going to let her eat Olive’s food but I don’t understand why Cloud Maiden didn’t buy cat food BEFORE she ran out - she must have been aware it was running low. Or at least bought some today before she went out - it definitely ran out this morning at the latest, and she was home until the afternoon. Grumble.

Didn’t she run out of kitty litter a little while ago? sounds to me like it’s time for a Talk with CM. <sigh> Why can’t people just look after their own stuff/pets/food etc?
Sorry you have to put up with this. Maybe the name Cloud Maiden is a --what’s that called when you call something something else to spare someone’s feelings or be tactful?–I swear I am senile. Anyway, I’m trying to say that Cloud Maiden is a kind of code name for Space Case? Maybe?

Must go to bed. Need functional brain. Gah.

I remembered!

Euphemism! I can sleep now.

I’m home. My scurvy was acting up again, glad I’m off tomorrow.

rigs, that’s exactly how it happens.

MBG, 50 rugrats under 10? That’s a typical Saturday at my work.

Great news on the job, Jahdra!
