Looking to the East - An MMP

Still not feeling great.

I may need to recuperate for a while.

Take care all.

Morning all! Well, I jinxed myself last night talking about how easily HRH went down. She woke up at 9:45pm, we fed her and changed her nappy (normally I just put a bottle in her half-asleep gob and she sucks it down in her sleep), but she decided she didn’t want to go back to sleep. It was midnight before she finally dropped off again ( ), but she still woke up at 6:30am this morning. I think today will be a very long day.

Noor and I are off to playgroup this morning, then hubby and I will go do the grocery shopping this afternoon while HRH plays at MIL’s house. Time to stock up on all the baby-friendly fruit and veg we need, plus all the extra provisions needed to accommodate 2 extra adult mouths in the house until the end of the month.

Well, I found out yesterday that another lawyer is leaving the office soon. That will make 6 in the last 2 years! That should give you a good idea of the kind of b*tch that my boss is - she is like a magnet with reversed polarity - she repels everyone! Sooner or later the international partners will have to realise that she is the reason our office always has a shortage of lawyers!

Jah, congrats on the new job. It sounds great! I wish I could find a job like that!

snowbunny, commiserations on the lack of snow so far. It could be worse, you could be here and be a sandbunny instead with no snow ever!

rigs, the bottom of the grobag is closed. It’s like a sleeping bag. The reason I prefer this over the sleepsuits is that the new one I just bought is for 6-18 months, and all she wears underneath is a onesie. It’s a big saving in terms of pyjama shopping. As far as blankets go, I have no problem with blankets, it’s just that Noor is a restless sleeper - tosses and turns and flips over and crawls around the cot in her sleep - so if she’s wearing the blanket, she won’t wake up cold and blanketless in the middle of the night! She also knows (except for last night  ) that once she is in her grobag, it’s bedtime/night-time/sleep-time until it’s light outside again!

Haze, I hate flatmates who don’t take care of their sh*t! That’s why I lived alone for a long time. If I ran out of milk or cereal or whatever, it could only be my fault!

Kleenex and drugs for all the people still suffering with Teh Sick[sup]TM[/sup], hugs, boos, yays, etc as appropriate. Off to finish pouring Noor’s breakfast into her!

Heh. Yeah, basically it is - I call her Cloud Maiden because her head is in the clouds quite often. Plus she, er, likes smoking. Not just tobacco, if you catch my drift. So a lot of the time she is surrounded by clouds in a literal sense.

:: blows get-well kiss to Roo ::

blurfff… :: Notices I’m on the air:: ::Puts on happy face::
Good Morning, everybody!
… blungfff… stooopit cold! :frowning:

Jahdra – any openings at your new employer? Wow! Congrats!! Soiunds like a really great job

SnowBunny – I know what you mean about snow seeming like all fun and games at first. Actually, it always seemed like that to me. What can I say? I was 18, driving in a blizzard was my idea of fun times! :smack:

Roo – You take care, yourself. Get well fast! When come back, bring no bugs!

I always figures Cloud Maiden was thus named because she was something of a Space Cadet… And yes, it is annoying sometimes.

::Gets the kiss from Haze::
::Promptly forgets everything else I wanted to say::

I Won’t kiss you back right now – don’t want to make you sick, too. But I’ll remember I owe you one. And I will pay it back – with interest

Wow, Jahdra, those are some very nice bennies. I didn’t think the private sector was that generous anymore. Congrats!

I went to Best Buy today and got out for less than $35.00. Unfortunately, I spent over $150.00 at the grocery store.

Haze, I gotta say this. It seems CM is taking teensy bit advantage of you. Definitely time to have a sit down and lay out some rules. It’s the minor things that start adding up to the “big blow up”. Just sayin’ is all.

I think I’m going to watch a little television. I still need some new books, dammit.

Mornin’/Whatever Y’all! I’m all up and caffienated here. I allowed myself to sleep for a few hours last night cause I was tahred. Plus, we went to dinner at friends’ house and I had a beerverage or four whilst there.

I’m plannin’ on sleepin’ a few hours tonight too cause I have a doctor’s appointment at ten tomorrow morning and I need to be sorta conscious for that. Then I’ll try to sleep some tomorrow afternoon before excitatin’ work tomorrow night. I’ve got someone comin’ in to give me an estimate on redoin’ floors in the dining and living rooms and the kitchen and laundry room Tuesday mornin’. Then it’s more various doctor appointments over the next few days as well as gettin’ some estimates on pressure washin’ da cave and tryin’ to decide on paint colors cause I want to get some wall paintin’ done. I am seriously debating gettin’ someone in to do the painting even though I can do it myself. I’m lazy. Deal with it.

Hope everybody has a good day! I’ll attempt to check in later and during next week as I can.

Bye Y’all!

gt - we do have a laptop - but it’s ancient. I think it runs Windows 98, and we know from experience that it won’t do wireless, even with the adapter thingie jammed in. My sweetie offered me his work laptop, but I’m pretty sure that would be a Bad Idea. Just my luck, it’d get damaged, or lost, or full of cookies that NASA wouldn’t appreciate (like the Dope??) Besides, he’s supposed to be working while he’s recuperating…

I know one hotel where I stayed on a trip once, they had a computer that the guests could use just off the lobby. I can’t recall if that’s this place or not. But if it is, I can at least check in daily to let you know I’m alive and/or functional. And keep my email from getting overrun with spam crap. We shall see. Incidentally, I’ll be getting home on Friday, the craft show is Saturday, and the next MMP is mine, provided I don’t forget again. :smack:

Haze - sorry about the doggy confusion. But if you kept proper notes about my life, as you all should do, you’d know that my real-life doggies are both black. And while in the middle of the night with all lights out, that provides camoflage, it’s stretching it just a bit. So you’re forgiven for slacking off in the note-taking department, but if it happens again, you go on **FCM ** Double Secret Probation, and it’ll cost you a LOT in chocolate to get your *Friend of **FCM *** status back. I suggest you get started immediately. Plus you should whack your roomie upside the head with a wet trout. (I saw that in another thread, and I found it to me mildly amusing.)

Last night was a weird one. I woke up furious at **FCD ** - in my dream, he’d rearranged all of the contents of my kitchen cabinets, and added a bunch of stuff that didn’t belong there. He claimed it was doctor’s orders. I was still pissed! And I had a hard time drifting off again. I made the mistake of looking at the clock (it was just after 3) and I started thinking about this stupid trip today.

Then, because it was extremely quiet, I heard the clicking of the computer on my kiln turning the elements on and off as it raised the temperature. And again, because I knew what time it was, I was trying to figure out which segment of the program it was on. Because, you know, um… well… Honestly, I have no idea why I cared, but it did matter at the time. I dozed on and off for 3 hours or so, being roused by the cat, who wanted to get under the covers. I finally gave up around 6:30.

Critters have been tended to, dishwasher is finishing up its cycle, and the basement is nice and warm. When I went down to check, the temp was 1970F-ish and dropping, down from 2151F. I won’t get to see any of the pieces till I get home Friday, and I’m pretty sure there won’t have been any explosions this time - everything was really dry. The three kitties should be really cute, and the cat head jar (the head of a cat wearing a hat with a bow in the back) is one I’m really eager to see. I did the cat part in a sorta tiger stripe pattern, and her hat is light blue with dark blue spots and a dark blue bow. And, of course, the tiger stripe ears poking thru the top.

So, today’s agenda: Shower, dress, pack, leave for airport, stop at Wawa for cash (they have a no-surcharge ATM), remember where I park at the airport, check bag, wait forever at the gate, fly to Miami, hang with Brian while he gets the rental car (I didn’t want to be responsible for that), go to the hotel, find dinner, iron clothes for the week, crash. Somewhere in there, I’ll check to see if there’s a computer I can use to check in, 'cause I know you’ll all worry so.

Worst part of the trip, apart from having to make the stoopit trip, is that Miami is still in summer. It’s in the 40s here this morning. Down there, it looks 70s and 80s will be the rule. Oh, how I suffer for my career…

Off to read the funnies and continue my day of fun and frolic.

Morning, all. Sorry about Teh Sick, everyone who still feels rough.

Congratulations, Jahdra! I hope it goes well.

Haze, I agree, Cloud Maiden is starting up unhappy behaviour pattersn. You’re not her Mom. Time to talk. If you can find a smoke-free moment.

Yesterday I wandered around with Attacks Husband, and picked up eight yards of lightweight cotton that I will either use for slings or receiving blankets. I haven’t decided yet. And then came home and threw up.

In spite of that, we all had a nice romantic evening together watching Doctor Who and eating cake. And QD just called from New York (where sh is right now) to says she’s about to go to Trader Joe’s, and do I want anything. Yay!

I should eat breakfast and go wake Mr. Lissar up for Mass.

**FCM-**I like travel, but I hate getting there (unless it’s a high speed train-those I like alot). Good luck. The Hampton Inn has a lobby computer-very nice touch.

I awoke at 0800, all ready to go stare at some fish today, but fell back to sleep. Now it’s 1030 and we are running late. I’m flatironing my hair as I surf, then we go to the Shedd (the world’s largest indoor aquarium–who knew?)

Thing is, I hate conflict. I am one of those people who will bend over backwards and twist myself into knots in order to avoid confronting people. On the other hand, I don’t want to deal with this after it’s gotten out of hand … so we’ll see. I suppose it depends on when I reach my breaking point.

It’s a lovely day outside. Hope everyone had a wonderful Sunday!

Seconding the beautiful day thing here. All the windows and doors are open, there’s a nice sunny breeze blowing through. :: checks calendar, yep, 3rd week in October::

I was a worker bee this morning. Made breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen then chopped, processed and got all ready to start cooking and making later for people coming over to watch the game.

We gots: Guac, 5 layer dip, pretzels with mustard-ish dip, and two humongous pots of MBG’s World’s Bestest Chili.

And beer, we got beer.

Haze, the point is that you need to handle this before it gets to the breaking point. If you handle it before you get really angry about it, the chances are better that it can be resolved more easily and with less risk of hurt feelings.

Snakes lost the exhibition game. Oh well. I did get to see Connor (he plays for Jacksonville now) and got a hug. Sometimes I think our Coach is too nice - returning players are just about guaranteed a spot on the roster. One of our returning guys last night was hopeless. Worthless. I hope Coach cuts him but I doubt it will happen.

I get to go to a funeral home visitation today. I hate stuff like this - I’ll be tempted to drive a stake in the old farts heart to make sure he stays dead - but I will behave. He did do something right when he was younger; most of his kids are good friends of mine and really nice people. Since he has been going downhill for a rather long time, the family is handling it well and mostly hiding their relief.

Hope all of you with Teh Sick feel better - and keep it to yourself, will ya?

gropes DB and SO, then runs

Evening all. Dinner is et (fish and chips (aka fries) of the frozen/reheated persuasion) and HRH is long since asleep.

Seems Noor’s wakey-wakey antics last night may have been an indication of some kind of infection. Noor and I got back from the shopping mall this afternoon (we did some window shopping at Toys ‘R’ Us) and she felt really hot (hotter than she would normally be after being in the car, even with the AC running). Her temperature was 38.4[sup]o[/sup]C (101.1[sup]o[/sup]F)! I gave her some baby paracetamol and her temperature came down by a full degree within an hour, but she has no other symptoms of anything. Maybe her teeth are just pushing through (?).

So hubby looked after Noor this afternoon while I went to do the grocery shopping. It turns out Bahrain has an island-wide sell-out of NAN2 follow-on formula, which Noor’s paediatrician has recommended we change over to, as well as no potato flakes (aka instant mashed NOTs). Gah!!! Apparently the whole country (yes, every single grocery store in the whole country, small as it may be) has had no NAN2 for nearly 3 weeks now! It’s a good thing we hadn’t started HRH on it, or I would have been really  !

Noor’s temp was back up to 38[sup]o[/sup]C by 6pm, but after another dose of paracetamol, she cooled down a bit, finished her bottle and drifted off to dreamland without further protest. She slept a LOT today after last night’s disrupted sleep (over 2 hours this morning, a half hour in the mall and then nearly 2 hours again this afternoon, compared with about 2 hours total usually). Fingers crossed she sleeps better tonight!

SCL, I don’t think I’ve ever been to a funeral home (all of my grandparents bar my maternal grandmother died before I was 10 years old; I was 21 when my grandmother died, but she had suffered from Alzheimer’s for many years and didn’t recognise her own children in the end). In point of fact, the only dead person I have ever seen was a poor Nepalese man who died on our flight from Abu Dhabi to Kathmandu (about 6 years ago). The poor man had a massive heart attack and was dead for quite a while (read about 30 minutes) before anyone even realised he wasn’t sleeping! He didn’t convulse or make any movements that might have alerted fellow passengers and it was only as we were preparing the cabin for landing that one of my workmates noticed he wouldn’t wake up. The worst thing was he was going home to see his family for the first time in nearly 10 years. :frowning:

Well, off to fight hubby for the TV remote … Maybe I’ll cruise the Dope for a while longer and lull him into a false sense of security!

Cloud Maiden should most definitely NOT OWN A CAT! How, again, did she come by the kitty? My parents taught me (and I think there’s there’s something about it in the Bible) take care of the pets before you tale care of yourself. So there’s only one thing I do in the morning before feeding Smokey (because if I didn’t, I’d be scrubbing the kitchen floor ;)). It’s always makes me  when I see/hear about people who adopt pets and then don’t take care of them. I know cats are low maintenance, but they still don’t have opposable thumbs. grrrrr. and I woke in a good mood, too. <sigh>

My Peapod order is all set. I have tomorrow off, so they will be able to bring me my nice adult beverages (it seems they’ve tied the blue laws into the site’s delivery calendar).
I was actually supposed to have an echocardiogram and some kind of alternate stress test tomorrow (and I was supposed to show up at Og-forsaken 7:am) and the only reason I’d scheduled it for a Monday was because they have a no caffiene for 24 hours prior, and I canNOT do that during the week, but Sundays, heh, piece of caffeine free cake. Anywho, earlier this week I started geting concerned about the test, what was involved, what were the side effects, etc. So I called the doc’s office and was talking to the NP. She started describing the maching on which I would be laying while the camera moved around me, and I said “I’m a big gal”
“Don’t worry, it’s rated to 500 puonds”
“Yes, but I am wide, too”
“We’ve had a 7 foot tall man in it”
“No, I am wide, not tall”
“Tell, you what, come by the office this evening and we’ll see how you fit.”
So I did, on Tuesday evening - the machine has this long narrow bench - maybe 16 inches wide - as soon as I got my legs up onto it, I felt a panick attack brewing. I told them there was no point in my going on with this test, as my anxiety level would throw things way off. So I have to talk to the doctor about an alternative machine, a more chair-like set up, which does exist, but not at that facility. So I rescheduled the echo as well.
I thought about giving the day off back, but figured, what the heck. I get to sleep in on a Monday, and get a Peapod delivery that can include some Mike’s Cranberry Lemonade. so, yeah, that’s what I am doing tomorrow.

Bro told me baby Jon is going to get a sibling, but Nephew and NIL haven’t yet told me so I am holding back on my excitement. (yeah, right!)

I have a job interview tomorrow at 1:30! Appendages crossed, please!

::Crosses appendages for SCL::

Quick drive-by. Little brother finished the marathon a bit slower than he wanted (just over 3 hours; he was shooting for just under), but he finished and qualified for Boston, which was the important part.

I hung out at work during the last 1/2 or so and then watched him finish.

Back later

GT

How am I supposed to keep Teh sick to myself, then?

**DB **-- you may want to leave us alone. You wouldn’t want to catch anything from me, even second-hand, now would you!? :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the job interview – we can combine groping and hoping, and I will be willing to hold on to your appendages

As for the funeral home visitation; a stake isn’t enough. You also need garlic. Lots and lots of garlic! If nothing else, you can add it to the food there; it’s guaranteed to improve it.

Dotty – yeah, teething can send the baby’s temperature up; but you should probably get her to the doctor just in case.

Evening here. It was an OK day. Nothing important to report. So I won’t.

Nooner, trust me - if HRH is still running hot tomorrow, off to the doctor we will go! Just checked her temp now and she is back at 36.8C, so fingers crossed her immune system has already done battle with (and defeated) whatever it was that wandered in where it don’t belong!

SCL, appropriate appendages crossed for a happy outcome tomorrow! I will leave it to swampus to cross any other (less appropriate) appendages.

Sigh, time for beddy-byes, methinks. Tahred after a long day and a long night, plus tomorrow the parental units arrive and will be staying for 10 days! Nighty-night mumpers!

Howdy Y’all! I’m awake! Just got up a few minutes ago. This weird ass sleep schedule has me all confuzzled. I feel like I wanna go back to bed and just might for a while. Or not.

Congrats on the great job offer Jah! Good luck on the job interview Snakes! All appropriate/inappropriate appendages crossed.

Ok, off to find caffiene. Must have caffiene. And food. And more caffiene.

Well, Cloud Maiden isn’t grossly negligent, but I think she unconsciously relies on the fact that I am here to take care of the kitties as well, and it’s not just on her. The thing about confronting her is a) I’m not THAT bothered by it - I just act out my melodramatic tendencies with you guys and then it’s out of my system  and b) she’s a wonderful roommate for the most part and generous about driving me places and putting up with Olive jumping on Biddy in an attempt to play and terrorizing the crap out of the poor old cat.

ETA: I was just thinking it’d be so much easier to confront her if we were strangers. I hate conflict but I hate it with friends even more.

Good luck, SCL! We’re all crossing our limbs for you.
