There have been six volumes of old Warner Brothers Looney Tunes cartoons released. They’ve been released in two parallel series: the Golden Collections and the Spotlight Collections. I’ve been buying the Golden Collections, which are four disk sets with extra features. My understanding is that the Spotlight Collections are two disk sets that are essentially two of the disks from the equivalent Golden Collection with no extra features. Is this correct or do any of the Spotlight Collections feature cartoons or other material that wasn’t in one of the Golden Collections?
You are indeed correct- the Spotlight Collections are just cut-down versions of the Golden Collections, featuring a few of the cartoons from the Goldens with no extras. The Golden Collections are what you want and are definitely worth the money. (The newly-released sixth Golden Collection is apparently the last, but animation historian and consultant for these releases Jerry Beck promises us that Looney Tunes will continue to appear on DVD in another form.)
