I finally watched LOTR this morning, and now I’m debating on the 2nd DVD… are the “special scenes” worth it? It’s quite long…
I’m getting it even though I have the current one.
But then, I’m a materialistic bitch and want the bookends.

Anyone with more money than sense (5 time champ included )will buy both DVDs. We will buy anything Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema want to sell us.

Must-break-the-chain-and-only-post-once
I am buying both. I thought I would wait and only purchase the platinum edition coming out in November, but the pull was too strong and I bought the regular release. I have watched it all the way through 3 times since last Tuesday. I have watched all the documentaries and featurettes. I still want more. The extra footage, the new special features - I want it all. There are going to be totally new special features on the new disc, and I want more.

Or do you mean you haven’t watched the second disc yet? The best part is the Two Towers preview. That is a must see, IMHO. The special documentaries overlap a bit (snips of the same interviews), but I watched all three. The featurettes are interesting, maybe save them for last. I’ll admit I didn’t watch the Enya video - that was the only part I skipped.
Ah, the best laid plans…
See, I was going to wait for November. I had willpower, I would be strong, I could conquer my desires. Well, okay, until about noon on the day of the release (Ye gods, was it only last Tuesday?), when I was walking through the local hipster-wannabe-discount store (We’ll just call it “Bullseye”) and saw a display of FOTR in the aisle. My resolve failed me. Ah, well, I’m still buying the Platinum Edition. Hells, I’ll probably buy it again after the whole trilogy comes out in one set.
I’m interested in checking out the Extended Version, but I’m a bit leery…Peter Jackson has indicated that he’s happy with the current version, so I wonder if all the extra footage is just detail and plotpoints being thrown back in to make the devoted Tolkien fans happy. Since I’m not one of those fans, I might think all the extra stuff is boring…what the hell, I’ll rent it, but I think the movie is great as it stands.
