Lost 3.13: "The Man from Tallahassee"

I also missed the first minute or two of the episode. I had tuned out whatever crap was on the tv and lost track of time.
I also want to top this thread so last week’s hijacked thread that’s still being hijacked will not be at the top of the forum.
So, does anyone have any thoughts on the mysterious box? I am hoping it doesn’t refer to Kate.

My first thought: “Magic box, eh? And when you open it, do Siegfried & Roy come tumbling out, astride polar bears?”

Okay, I did not see that coming. And I concede that the story of Locke’s paralysis is all that it needed to be, after all this time.

Ben: “Did it hurt?”
Locke: “Did what hurt?”
Ben: “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?”
Locke: “Huh?”
Ben: "Do you wash your pants with Windex? Because I can really see myself in them. "
runs off, cackling madly

I don’t think Siegfried or Roy would be likely to make an appearance in Kate’s magic box… snicker

Oh, it’s wonderful to have Locke (the real Locke) back and O’Quinn played the hell out of it in tonight’s episode.

Back to great story telling again, and I almost quit caring whether or not they can write their way out of this fantastic new twist.

Speaking of new: was that a fresh tattoo on Jack’s forearm?

I’m loving the Return of Locke as well. Not sure what kushiel’s problem is with the complaint about how’s he “not like he used to be”. This is how he used to be. He would unilaterally take command when Jack wasn’t around, and whereas Jack would try to get others involved on the plan, Locke always had something else in mind that he wouldn’t let on. I’d easily say he’s my favorite character. Terry O’Quinn got me into the show in the first place based on his performance and I got hooked and started catching up on the show at the very end of the Season 2. Thus far, Locke’s unilateral instincts have been one of the largest single contributors to the progression of the plot.

It’s obvious Ben wanted the sub destroyed. He’s just diggin’ playing John and Jack against one another now. Jack was far from pleased on the pier. Long as I’m on the subject of Ben, I know he was being particularly manipulative here, but is it just me or was he completely out of character with all the incredibly forthcoming details when talking to Locke? It’s like Locke shows up and suddenly the cup runneth over with answers. :dubious: Ben clearly has a liking for Locke, which even he mentioned at the end of the episode before revealing Tallahassee Man to him. He wouldn’t tell Jack anything, but he spilled his guts about everything Locke wanted to talk about. Whether it was manipulation or not, it was quite a change of pace for Ben.

I’m not sure I’m buying that “Magic Box” thing, and while the thought of it belonging to Kate is a fun sentiment, I doubt Ben just willed Locke’s dad onto the island as if the box were some kind of Star Trek transporter. I think Ben simply sent out his operatives to kidnap him. BTW, anyone notice that the whisky poured by Locke’s dad was the same one poured by Penny’s dad when Desmond came to ask for his marriage blessing?

So, Sun & Jin are in cahoots with the Others? I knew they shouldn’t have neglected focusing on the Beach Losties for so long … they got all upset because it’s been ages since they got any attention and now they’re out for revenge, starting with a whack upside Sawyer’s noggin, from the looks of it.

I think Ben is genuinely in awe of Locke and his Island mojo. I suspect future episodes will show him revealing truths and pulling all sorts of goodies out of his magic box to win Locke’s favor.

I don’t trust the previews.

Yeah, me neither. I was just making a joke about the lack of attention being paid to Sun & Jin, the new red-headed stepchildren of the show. They splice the trailer so it appears she’s whacking Sawyer, but it’ll probably turn out she’s whacking somebody else entirely.

Yeah that was some major misdirection.

Think Niki & Paulo instead.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SICK of the others always getting the drop on the losties and capturing them. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Still a good episode, though.

Dad looked pretty freshly banged up and his clothes were dirty. I predict we’ll find out that he just fell out of the sky in the last few days. Unless…hmm…yachting in the South Pacific on the loot from his latest victim, maybe?

Okay, seriously, what is it you’ve got against the lightly pigmented?

(sorry)

The episode was pretty satisfying for me actually. I was annoyed in the beginning when Jack was using the patented Lost obfuscate dialoguing to not reveal anything important to Kate. But the stuff with Locke and Ben made up for that. I guess now its clear Ben’s plan had been to capture Jack, but back in the hatch he had told Locke he came for him. We know that whereas some of the Tailes were put on “the list”, Ethan had to break his cover and kidnap Claire before any lists of the fuselage losties could be made. Until Enter 77, it seemed like Locke might be a prime candidate for the list, and certainly this episode Ben seems to have a hard on for his island mojo. But Mikhail claims he wasn’t on the list. The Others also seem surprised at some of Jack’s qualities saying “and he wasn’t even on the list”.

The reason Locke was paralysed despite the 2.5 seasons of hype still lived up to my expectations. I was a little surprised it wasn’t a car crash considering all the other crashed in the flashbacks, but it was a pleasant surprise.

I found it amusing when Ben worded his promise to Jack so carefully to let his friends go after he left the island, which he knew would be stopped by the sub destruction.

I was surprised we didn’t see the underground tunnels. We know they exist from the flame map, and the preview showed Locke opening a hatch (boy he has a hard on for buttons, explosions, computers, and hatches!). But it turned out to be the sub hatch.

Yep. And John seemed be somewhat aware of it, but he had his own reasons for destroying the sub. I don’t see why they can’t just take the other boat they have off the island though. Granted it can’t navigate back without the beacon working, but they could still leave on Walt and Michael’s special heading.

I was actually thinking, maybe Ben’s plan reached further back in time, and he had manipulated John into destoying the Swan so that the beacon would stop working. But according to the latest podcast, the Others didn’t know about the Swan until at least the plane crash and Ben was skeptical about the button pushing deal. Although it’s not clear yet if Ben pressed the button when he claimed he didn’t.

Well I agree it’s not a literal magic box but I think it’s not an outright lie either - it’s a metaphor for something. What exactly we’re not sure yet. Probably something to do with the nature of the island.

It’s a Nikki and Paolo flashback so assumed that the preview was referring to them. I suppose given the Sun and Sawyer dialogue the title “expose” could also mean Sawyer and Charlie get discovered for what they did to Sun. I think it’s cool that it’s an on island flashback and we’ll get to see Artz, Shannon, Ethan, and Boone. Not sure if Walt, Michael, or Rose make an appearance. I suppose they could mix in original footage or else Walt coudl look strange.

One thing I don’t understand is why some people watching, and the preview made it seem like the reason Jack was helping the Others was a BIG MYSTERY. Yeah of course to Kate and Sayid it was shocking, but the whole episode with Juliet clearly showed us Jack making the deal with Ben.

I don’t get though why Ben was set to send them off on the submarine so soon. Jack was supposed to nurse him back to health, and Ben was obviously still in recovery only a week after surgery. If I was Ben I’d wait til I didn’t need a wheelchair at least to send them away. Unless he was just supposed to fix the wound infection and then be released…

Which idea was that?

When they showed Danielle looking at Alex from the trees, my breath actually caught in my throat for a second, so startled was I at how much alike they look. My husband actually made me pause the TiVo last night so he could look up both actresses on IMDB and determine whether they were actually related, or what.

So yeah, these little things mean a lot.

I’m just glad anamnesis’s head didn’t explode.

Was anyone fooled for a minute that Jack was really leaving? No sobbing farewells with Kate, no goodbye boinks…nope, I knew that he was sticking around.

I knew it was Locke’s dad from the second Ben mentioned he had a surprise for Locke.

That was my greatest fear. I suspected that it was his dad but the mental image of Aurthur Fonzerelli on water skis kept looming in the back of my mind.

I hope that they can write their way out of this one but I fear the onset of “evil twin brother” and “suddenly discovered little sister” episodes.

I SO want to be wrong about this
