As much as I enjoy Ben’s character, and for as brilliant, formidable, and Batman-prepared as he always seems to be, I think he has several bats in his belfry.
My previous hunch was that Ben was directly responsible for CFL and Carl dying, but Alex being delivered to the village by the Goon Squad threw some water on that idea. It is still lingering in the back of my mind though.
My current hunch is that Ben is indeed directly responsible for killing Nadia, and that he is leaking information to Widmore (the location and time of where Nadia would be killed, the location and time of the funeral in Tikrit) knowing that Widmore would send his goon to both places, and provide Ben with just the right circumstances to manipulate Sayid. Or he just knew that Widmore would be tailing all of the Oceanic 6, and simply spun those circumstances to set Sayid up to become a revenge-enraged henchman.
The “hotel” where Ben checked in and inquired about the date is actually the ground floor of a YWCA in downtown Honolulu.
There isn’t actually a desk or door there. It’s actually part of a corridor that leads to a swimming pool, locker rooms, and some aerobics rooms. The pool would have been to Ben’s right, on the other side of the stairs.
The indoor basketball court where Hurley is visited by Jack is up those stairs.
Oh, and no ship that’s not crewed by the damned and captained by a man so evil that Hell itself spat him back out could possibly have black sails, therefore couldn’t possibly be any other ship than the Black Rock. Is that what you’re telling me?
I believe that my subconcious had already added up all of the clues to arrive at what should have been obvious to us all. Charles Whidmore is one of two younger children born to Elizabeth and Will Turner. (He’s the evil twin, of course.)

What if they do kill him off? Can you imagine all the time travel/parallel earth/alternate future thearies that will be flying around? The internet might self-destruct.
