LOST 6.13 "The Last Recruit"

Probably just to annoy us, but probably really because the finale is a 2 hour episode, so it counts as “two episodes” contracts-wise. I guess…

He did. He told Sun her husband was in the past when they were in abandoned Dharmaville. However, Ben had not yet killed Jacob. Maybe MIB got his shape shifting powers FROM Jacob and his death ends that ability. Of course, he can still turn into smoke so…

fellow Losties I’ve been trying to recall the how or why or when of Sawyer’s boat. I just can’t recall an explanation for it. please help.

The Elizabeth originally belonged to Libby’s husband, who named it for her. He died, leaving it to her. She had no need for a sailboat, and impulsively gave it to Desmond, who had told her shortly after meeting her that he was trying to earn money to buy a boat for a solo sailing race around the world. (Desmond wanted to earn Charles Widmore’s approval so that he wouldn’t oppose Des’ marrying Widmore’s daughter Penny.) During said race, Desmond ended up crashing on the Island and stayed for several years, pushing the button, while his fellow button-pusher Kelvin secretly repaired the boat in the hopes of using it to get away. After the Oceanic 815 crash, Desmond eventually ran away and sailed off in the Elizabeth, trying unsuccessfully to get away from the Island, but he ended up running back into the Island again, unable to get away. Eventually, some of the castaways try to use the boat in a fight with the Others; the Others capture it, and I think that’s the last we’d seen of it until now.

Thanks gilab. I remembered all but the vital “Other capture it” part.

I doubt the information on the manifest said “WALT LLOYD. NOTE: HAS UNREALIZED PSYCHIC POWERS THAT CAN WISH US ALL INTO A CORNFIELD. DO NOT SEAT NEAR COCKPIT”

I think the Others were interested in him because they wanted all the children for some reason… which I hope will be explained, but seems like a slim chance.

And, after thinking about his on-Island appearances, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the real Walt astral-projecting. I’m guessing that the ghosts/whisperers somehow managed to congeal into a body, but weren’t doing a very good job of it (hence the liquidity and backwards speaking). And the Walt at the open grave sounded a lot more like Boone/the Island in “Further Instructions” than the real Walt.

I was watching “Raised by Another” the other day, and not only did the psychic tell her, the Island told her!

On a side note, in one of the early episodes there’s some mention of the mystery of the Monster and the camera immediately cuts to Locke, who’s happily doing something completely different. I swear that might have been foreshadowing…

Isn’t it a matter of recruitment? They need new Others to carry on the work of protecting the Island. They can’t have children of their own, so they take children to be the next generation of Others.

Didn’t Faraday die in the 50s? Can’t remember at this point. Not sure if they were in the 50s when Charlotte died, either - they were doing a lot of time-jumping when she ate it.

Faraday died in '77, shot by Eloise Hawking before the Losties could deliver the message about the bomb.

Ah, there goes that theory, then.

I watched “Dead is Dead” from season 5 again last night and saw a scene where the producers could have added a little humor.
When Locke and Ben take one of the outriggers to the main island so Ben can be judged by Smokey, Locke takes off his shoes and socks before launching the boat. At the island Locke sits down on the dock to put on his socks and shoes again. After putting on his socks, we overhear Locke mumbling to himself as he struggles to insert his foot into one of Christian’s shoes:
“Dammit! I’d like to know what happened to my shoes. I was wearing them when Ben killed me; now all I have is this stupid pair that don’t fit. I can’t walk half an hour in them before my feet are killing me; where the hell are my shoes, dammit? I bet Jacob had something to do with it.”

One other COMPLETELY trivial thing I would have loved to have seen was a reveal that the missing members of Geronimo Jackson played a significant role in the Dharma mythology.

Not THAT is minutia!
