Lou Magazzu Resigns

To paraphrase Jay Leno: here’s a Democrat that had to resign after sending inappropriate pictures to a woman. What rotten luck. If only this had happened to someone else first, so there was some kind of warning about the risks!

There were, though, extenuating circumstances.

Specifically: the woman (allegedly) specifically asked for the nude photos, and she is someone with whom (he says) he has had an online relationship for several years. He sent the photos to her only, she apparently passed them on to someone else, a political enemy of Magazzu’s, who posted them online. Also, he is divorced so he is not even cheating on his wife.

If old Lou’s allegations are true, it looks like he was set up by this woman, and/or by the political enemy who posted the photos online.
Roddy

He wasn’t cheating?

So why resign? Who among hasn’t send nude picks of themselves to a hot woman?

Seriously.

What was inappropriate about them?

Previous thread on the subject.

As I understand it, sending the photos did not demonstrate the wisdom and balance that Magazzu expected from himself, and that the people of Cumberland County deserve and have every right to expect.

Please explain more. All you’re doing is reiterating the original assertion. Exactly what is "inappropriate, “unbalanced” or “unwise” about a single man sending pictures of himself to a lady friend at her own request?

As far as I can see, an unmarried county-level politician in New Jersey developed a friendship with a woman in which he sent pictures of himself to her in the expectation that they would remain private. However, she betrayed his trust: why is Bricker not attacking her, and the Republican who made the pictures public knowing them to be private?

I have no idea. The man who sent the pictures believes that that act was did not demonstrate the wisdom and balance that he expected from himself, and that the people of Cumberland County deserve and have every right to expect. I figure he should know.

I quoted Leno’s comment with approval. If the publication of pictures can cause you to lose your job, you are unwise if you send such pictures around to anyone.

I see, by the way, that we are uncritically accepting his story that she requested the pictures, just as we uncritically accepted Weiner’s story that his account was hacked. I have no reason to attack the woman, any more than I have any reason to attack the guy with the video camera who followed Allen around and elicited the “Macacca” comment. I assume she was trying to get this politician to do something stupid, and he did.

Perhaps she didn’t. Perhaps her request was geuine, and their relationship soured, because he cheated on her, or forget their anniversary, or failed to separate whites and coloreds in the laundry. I have no idea. I can’t attack her without knowing what caused her to do what she did, and I have no idea what caused her to do what she did, and my only supposition is a theory that doesn’t justify an attack on her.

Well, if you can’t attack her without more knowledge of the relationship, how can you attack him?

FWIW, I think his resigning is consistent with him thinking that his future political career will always be tainted by these pictures, and not necessarily with him thinking he did anything morally wrong.

Then why did you apply those words to the actions? YOU called the pics “inappropriate.” You chose that word yourself. Why?

Why not just admit you started this thread to gloat…only there really isn’t anything much there to gloat about, is there? The fact that he was single and that the pics were requested kind of takes the piss out of it.

Because it was an accurate paraphrase of Leno’s comment.

Just out of curiosity. If someone stole naked pictures that Sarah Palin had sent to her husband and posted them on the internet, would that show that Sarah Palin was “unwise,” “unbalanced” and “inappropriate,” or would she be a victim?

Because by his own admission, the act of sending the pictures did not demonstrate the wisdom and balance that he expected from himself, and that the people of Cumberland County deserve and have every right to expect.

I didn’t say he did anything morally wrong, either.

Hard to say. I already think Sarah Palin is unwise, unbalanced, and often inappropriate. It would be difficult to get past that impression and judge the new incident tabula rasa.

However, if Palin herself said, “That act did not demonstrate the wisdom and balance that she expected from herself, and that the people of Alaska deserve and have every right to expect,” I would be comfortable repeating that comment with approval.

This is the best you can do?

So you’re attacking him because he sets high standards for himself? Politicians who set themselves much lower standards are more worthy of your vote?

I don’t understand what this means:

If she said something like that, my opinion of her would go up considerably.
