I admit it, I’m a L&R mark, and I hope the series keeps going till I’m in my 70’s.
The Jaime side: The Devil is stalking Maggie! If not THE devil, then a devil, ghost or some spirit tied to her and Izzy. An earlier issue showed how Izzy was being taunted by an entity she called “Mr. Satanico,” who told her he may even come back as her own baby. She got an abortion. Now it looks like that malevolence has followed her and made her go insane…well, even more insane. And now, it wants Maggie! It most probably faked Hopey’s voice and called Maggie on the cel phone THAT DOESN’T WORK to tell her she loved her. That made poor Maggie even more loopy. Last issue, Izzy told the spirit “Leave her alone. She’s not yet able to understand.” Does that imply that Maggie needs to be insane to understand what the spirit is? I’m thinking in addition to being able to fake voices, it’s also Izzy’s doppleganger. That’s how Maggie saw Izzy naked at the house and then on the street. Notice how the figure in the window is also a silhouette of the shadow Maggie saw in the tree? Past issues have depicted Maggie’s fear of something stalking her, like the imaginary spook in the back of her car a few issues back. It could be Beelzebub, Lord of the Flies…
The Gilbert Side: Last issue of Luba showed the frostiness Luba displays towards her sisters. Fritz and Petra speculate on whether Luba actually likes them, even though they get along. Luba wonders herself if their cordiality towards her is faked. I think they won’t truly feel like a family until they’ve had a knock down drag out argument, the type that only families can have. Luba’s been restraining herself, possibly because she doesn’t want to alienate more family members like she did Maricela. Notice how dismayed her daughter Doralis was when she did her world wide coming out show and Luba hardly showed any emotion. Maybe it’s the medication she’s on…but maybe there can be a future issue where she runs out, doesn’t get it refilled, and the old Luba comes out and terrifies the sisters as she brandishes that hammer like one of the Furies.
