There’s a new commercial for the AT&T GoPhone featuring Meat Loaf and an actor playing his “son,” Adam Cagley, which is set to the music of “Paradise By the Dashboard Light.” 80’s singer Tiffany also makes an appearance in the video, apparently as the mother figure. According to imdb, Cagley has mostly made appearances in Disney sitcoms such as Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. He’s also been on Nick’s “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.”
This commercial is so indescribably cheesy on so many levels. I’ve only seen the first 30 seconds on TV, but there’s a 90 minute version on YouTube.
As I said in my Epic Fail of a thread, the thing that disturbs me most is that Tiffany is actually legitimately old enough (36) to have a 16-year-old son without having been the object of a major celebrity scandal at the time she was pregnant. Makes me feel OLD!
Damn! That really was Meatloaf. I saw the commercial the other night and did not recognize him at all. The singing did not sound like him either. OK, I’m pretty clueless at times, contrary to what might be expected from my screen name.
Anyway, I have a great love for the song due to a wonderful 30 year-old memory* and I was horrified by the commercial thinking they had misappropriated the song. I was wrong and I’ll have to check it out another time.
(It was long ago and it was far away… but can it actually be 30 years?!)
I saw it last night for the first time, I thought it was funny and great. I had no clue that the Mom was Tiffany, but I recognized Eddie immediately. (I mean Meatloaf, pass the ketchup.)
That was a fun commercial, yes it was cheesy, but in a good way. Now how did you all recognize Tiffany?
Plus the long version has actual credits at the end.
Yep, this is one of those “good bad” kind of productions, proudly self-referential as to Meatloaf’s bombasticness and Tiffany’s suburbaniteness (no, I didn’t look up to see if those are real words…), and it’s fine self-parody fun but yes, I suspect after the first ten or so viewings it will start to weigh heavily on our nerves.
To complete your surreal experience, I feel the need to point out that Tiffany recently did a half-way decent cover of “I Don’t Wanna Fall in Love” by She Wants Revenge.
