The following posted with the understanding that I am actually parsing any of this reasonably well.
This is the opinion of many who are outside that community and/or who do not generally have a lot of contact with anyone who would know about it.
Male homosexuals have as many differences in their ideal life situations as anyone else. There are plenty who desire spousal monogamy and plenty who do not, just as is the case in any other significant demographic.
In my experience, belief in such a position as espoused in your OP is consistent with a lack of exposure to enough different people so as to secure a reasonably diverse set of experiences.
