That’s pretty much my plan as well, although yesterday I went kayaking for a couple hours and my BFF and I have a long standing tradition of getting a burger and fries after we paddle. I refuse to feel bad about the bun that keeps the messy bacon cheeseburger with tons of onions together but I did cut down to a small fries. Exercise may be its own reward, but the bacon cheeseburger is a nice little bonus.
My BFF also gifted me with some pistachio butter she made and I think some of that is going into my next batch of coconut oil “fudge.”
I have been enjoying sugar-free tonic water for decades. Pretty much year-round. When I discovered tequila a few years ago I very gently experimented. It’s not so bad! And tequila has exactly zero carbohydrates so I can still enjoy a nice adult beverage.
That reminds me, I’m busting out my ice cream maker and testing out some low carb ice cream recipes. Everything from a regular ice cream recipe with Swerve instead of sugar, to specific keto recipes that I’ve found.
Has anyone tried an avocado ice cream? If you did, did you notice the avocado? I’m trying to wrap my brain around chocolate avocado ice cream…
My numbers are going down much more slowly, but I am feeling much better than at the end of last week.
Re: Beer. I drink seltzer / club soda; the carbonation feels good, and you can get it in individual cans or bottles, if that helps.
I don’t have any food tips; I just mix various protein sources to four or five ounces for breakfast and lunch, with whatever vegetable I have. If it’s really boring, I add Brewers’ yeast. I eat about 0.5 ounce grains a day, and it is surprising just how important that half ounce is.
Tofu is vile stuff.
Oh, there’s no need to go that far, is there?
Have you ever tried a popsicle out of pureed melon?
I’ve made chocolate avocado mousse before and the avocado was not very noticeable. A tiny bit “grassy” compared to real chocolate mousse but really the chocolate and presumably the vanilla extract you’ll add covers everything up.
Celtic Knot is still (kinda) here. Mr. CK hasn’t stepped on a scale to my knowledge, but he’s plugging away at home. Work is another story. His store’s building has had no A/C for years. The landlord refuses to fix it, and the corporation (renting the building for the store) won’t make the landlord do any maintenance. When Mr. CK has to work long, hot hours in the back, his boss and coworkers buy him Gatorade to keep him from getting sick.
I weighed myself yesterday and down 5 pounds after 4 days and good exercise. Last time I tried a “slow carb” diet, I had really good initial drop and then it really slowed. Regardless, I think by the end of this weekend I’ll be under 170, which I’ve been trying to get to for a long time and that target has been stubbornly off. Anyhoo, I’m prolly less than 5 grams carb per day. Getting under 170 and staying under will be a huge mile stone. Next target is under 160 but I know that’s a much longer term thing.
The no beer, all protein and good exercise seems to be working at least for an initial drop.
Anyone else kinda revolted by food? Most items are just not appealing to eat. I’m eating bigger portions as the days go by though, so maybe it’s just the first few days? I’m not into a big steak or a pound of bacon for breakfast. Today I had a slice of bacon for breakfast, some leaf veggies and chicken at lunch, and then shrimp and eel for dinner. I have found cheddar cheese to be palatable for small snacks, and for some reason salami is tasty (and I probably haven’t had salami for a couple of years now). The Whysky soda vs beer is okay - i’d much rather have beer but not jonesing for some ale. Kinda strange.
Nauseated at times, but not revolted. I had an all protein breakfast this morning because I was in a hurry, and my body was not pleased.
I don’t “feel like” much when I want to eat; I just eat my standard fare. I buy only things that I enjoy eating, and mix them in various combinations. I’m still eating too much meet at night.
And it’s weigh-in day today. I’ve been aggressively sticking to less than 20 carbs and I am down another 8.4 pounds. That makes an even 13 pounds gone in 14 days.
I have moments of cravings, but I can’t say I’ve been hungry. And I recognize that the cravings pass on their own.
I am entering the second half with as much determination as what I started with.
I weighed in a 10 lbs less than my starting weight, which is good, and have completely stuck on the % body fat, which is bad. I am not counting carbs, just avoiding grains and starches. No beer, desserts, candy, or soft fruits and vegetables.
I have not been having a good week-end, and as a consequence had a few glasses of wine. I’m hoping that messed with my body fat measurement, and that next week I will be back on track.
8 lbs total down, which I am very happy with. I’ve had tough days, but overall this has felt painless compared to past diets. I have a long way to go, but I’m feeling cautiously optimistic that I’ll be able to get there.
Not sure how much I’m down as I didn’t note what I was at last Sunday but around 7-8 pounds. Regardless, I weighed in with my birthday suit at 170, and I’ve been stubbornly stuck in the 170+ for the past few months. I’m off to Taiwan for 10 days, and have stocked up on some proteins to take. Hopefully, by next week will be in the 160’s level and 170 will become the “Danger Will Robinson” high tide for the future. Ideally I can ratchet down to under 160 but we’ll see. I’m pretty happy that I’ll be under 170 by the time I land in Taiwan…
I’m down a total of 17 lbs since March and would be happy with just five more pounds although 10 would give me more wiggle room, but I’ve been kind of stuck here for the last week or so. Yesterday didn’t help matters. Nachos and hard lemonade for the holiday get together. ugh.
I actually need to get motivated again I think. Here’s hoping I can get back to it. I’m so close to my goal.
I don’t usually weigh myself, preferring to judge by the fit of my clothes where I’m at, but I have a diabetic cat and since I can’t free feed dry food to either of my cats I weigh them to make sure they’re getting enough to eat. Which means I have to weigh ME first to get a baseline. I appear to be down about eight pounds, which is nice, but what I’m really appreciating is a distinct lack of heartburn (haven’t had a Tums since I cut the carbs out) and a really good energy level with less joint pain and stiffness.
I’ve had to literally DOUBLE the dose of warfarin I’d been taking and that I had been stable with for years and my INR numbers still haven’t budged (I’m going in today so here’s hoping they’ve started going back up) so if anyone doubts how much of an impact a lot of green leafy veggies makes in your body, here’s some conclusive proof. Since being able to clot really fast is, for most people, a big advantage you can conclude that the low carb/lotsa veg diet is definitively going to be good for you. Unless you’ve had a pulmonary embolism, in which case it’s kinda terrifying.
