I watched The Guyver the other night. The only thing that saved it from being the worst movie I’ve ever seen was that the creature effects for the Guyver itself were actually very cool.
The anime was much better, though.
Anyway, I got to looking at the IMDB entry for The Guyver, and decided to see what Mark Hamill’s been up to lately.
He was born in 1951! Luke Skywalker is turning 50 this year!
Holy cow… I think my faith in the universe is shaken!
I just thought I’d mention that we were watching a re-run of a first season Eight is Enough on PAX this weekend. It was totally different from other seasons…it was more of a serious drama than following seasons. Anyway, there were strange people playing some of the characters (the mom, the middle brother and one of the girls) and the big “drama” of this episode was that the oldest brother was mad at dad and moved out. Dad goes over to the oldest brother’s new apartment and lo and behold, it’s Luke Skywalker!!
We could not belive that we had no idea he was ever even on the show! This would have been 1975 or 76, so obviously he quit to do Star Wars, but it was just plain weird–Bizzarro Eight is Enough.
P.S. My brother’s the Eight is Enough freak, not me. He’s still in love with Elizabeth.
Please tell me that you found The Guyver on some late night TV station. If you had it on tape, I just might have to smack you, but seriously… Think about it, if “Luke” is almost 50, then so is “Leia” and “Han” passed that mark a while ago…
Be thankful it has nothing to do with skeletons blowing their loads!
I had a “rent-one-get-one-cheapy-free” for Blockbuster Video. The Guyver was my freebie.
Honestly, I didn’t think it could be that bad. Unfortunately for me, it was.
Harrison Ford is older and distinguished by now.
Carrie Fisher has vanished with nary a trace, save for a TV expose about her and her father and how close to the edge they came.
Mark Hamill was the young hero - he had his brief moment, and then faded into obscurity, where he remains today. We’d all rather remember him as Luke, but he’s not Luke any more.
I’m really not a big enough fan of Star Wars to speak on this, but here’s what I’ve been thinking.
The original Star Wars came out and Luke was a young man. Through ROTJ he grew into a full Jedi.
The most recent Star Wars trilogy, starting with TPM, focuses on Anakin Skywalker. I assume that by the third installment of this latest series, he will have grown up and been turned to the Dark Side.
(Now’s where my WAG begins.) If someone out there knows the plot of the third set of movies, they may be able to support my guess, or not. But, could it be possible that the third trilogy will be set with the heroes of the original trilogy as wizened elders in the Republic. Thus, by the time they start shooting the third series, Hamill, Fisher, Ford, et al will be sufficiently aged to play themselves.
This is only a guess, but I’ve found it somewhat intriguing. Then again, I could be totally off my rocker.

Carrie Fisher is five years younger than Mark Hamill.

There won’t be any third trilogy in the Star Wars series. George Lucas did discuss doing a third trilogy at one point, but he now says that there won’t be one.
If only…sigh
George Lucas is now hedging on the whole third trilogy idea. I don’t have the quote in front of me, but I distinctly remember reading that “ROTJ is the end.”
