Lurkers Anonymous: Roll Call

…with the usual problem…
What I would say has already been said, several times over, and very well.

This is a great place to spend WAY too much time. It may be SDBB that finally pushes me into a speed reading course.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I think there is a great deal of information to be found and interesting conversations, both serious and fun, and I have always felt the words

is a very wise insight and one to which I ascribe. It is nice to be able to ease-drop and determin the content and tone of a thread and deceide then to leave, listen or go once more into the breech.

Lurker and avid reader checking in. This board feeds into my need to people-watch.

By the way, Zeldar, is your name in anyway related to mine (my mother’s first and middle name mashed together)?

Hi,

I’m Promethea and I’m a lurker - mostly because I’m a little intimidated by the sheer size of the board membership - I’m still trying to get a feel of who everyone is. Plus, I find that sooner or later someone says what I would have said in any given thread anyway.

On the rare occasions I post, I generally post in Cafe Society, but am also working my way up to IMHO and MPSIMS. I don’t believe I will ever brave it in The Pit but hope to reach Great Debates one day

Sorry, zeldarae, mine is just a name I made up for a goofy story I wrote back in the 80’s for a Commodore BBS I was messing around with. I do have a cousin whose name is a hybrid of two aunts’ names, so I do know the sort of thing you’re describing.

(Something about this feels like deja vu. Have we had this conversation before? If not, somebody else’s handle is similar to ours.)

I know just what you mean about the Pit. I don’t let myself get that pissed off!

zeldarae, check out this post/thread

Hello, young lurkers, whoever you are!

I used to wonder why almost no one replied to my posts. Then I realized they were expecting me to reply to theirs, if anything. After that, I didn’t worry too much about getting feedback. Now it comes at the most unexpected times and from people that I have no idea have noticed me. Sometimes they curse.

One of the best things about posting is that I keep refining what I believe.

One warning though. When I delurked for the first time ever in a chat room, the first person to respond ended up married to me! We have grandchildren! Danger! Danger!

I started lurking in the fall of 2003. When the board switched to paid subscriptions I thought about joining and even created an account, but alas I failed to join and put it off for another year. This year I couldn’t pass up the $9.95 offer and finally stepped out of the shadows… slowly attempting to force my lurking into remission.

I can’t believe I’m actually posting

So glad you chose here to do so.

Hey, Lurkers Anonymous, let me ask if you think this would be ethical or not, and whether you would want to participate or not.

Let’s say you’re lurking along and you spot a post by somebody who’s obviously Lurker’s Anonymous material, but (as far as you can recall) hasn’t posted to this thread. What would be wrong with using your mouse to highlight the portion of the post where it shows the Username, Post Count and Join Date, doing a “copy” of that data, and coming here to “paste” that data into a new post here?

As you may have seen, I’ve been doing that to all the posts from this thread and making a Notepad file with that data sorted by Join Date so I can post updates here from time to time. One neat thing about the updates is that some time in the future if your posting frequency picks up to the point that you lose your Lurker status, you could check back on this thread to see what your post count was in August 2005.

I won’t do this sort of thing unless there’s a strong sentiment that it’s okay to do it, but if you would express an opinion it can help me decide the value of it.

Thanks in advance.

Just had to toss my name into the ring.

(By the way, she’s a he, not a she …

It’s a long story …)

Would probably post more if I didn’t have to work for a living. [Professional Driver - people keep running over the extension cords - besides, would you feel comfortable knowing that the driver of the 105,000 pound tanker behind you was posting to the SDMB???]

Good to see y’all here.

Habitual lurker for sometime now. Though I’ve been trying to post more.

Hey, how’s it going there! Like others in this thread, I have been reading these boards for a long time, but rarely come up with anything useful to contribute. So now that I’ve almost introduced myself, I’ll go back to blending in with the wallpaper.

slips surreptitiously into the shadows

I lurked, then I registered, then I lurked some more, then I subscribed so I could search.

bursts in here screaming Do I count? I always miss the parties.

I brought cake.

I almost feel like a downright chatty person after seeing some of the lurkers here.

I read the board everyday. In fact, I spend way too much time here. I actually lurked for at least a year (probably more) before I first registered.

I’m posting this so as to flip the page and post an updated list of Lurkers Anonymous.
