Luther on BBC America - 4 nights starting Tues, Sept. 3rd

Was watching Law and Order UK on BBCA and saw the promo. I’d already started watching from, ummm, other sources but I may put that on hold now since I much prefer to watch things with closed captioning.

I’m so excited!

I’m gonna start watching. Is there anything a first-time viewer needs to know?

I started watching s03e01 and it doesn’t look like there is any significant carry over. Well, Luther does seem to be under investigation for a variety of deaths that seem to intersect his previous investigations and that does relate to the previous story lines in some very, very interesting ways. So you should probably try to catch up on the previous 10 episodes, but I’ll tag a WAG and say that you probably won’t need to know the exact nature of those deaths. Either that, or the information you need will be revealed during these 4 episodes.

Pfft. Good luck.

Yeah, maybe that was wishful thinking. I hope not though since I my memory sucks and I saw the previous episodes a while ago. :frowning:

The seasons are short. It won’t take long to catch up. Its on Netflix.

I would say its not one of the better British cop shows. Its just too unbelievable. But I would watch Idris Elba read the phonebook. He is just that good. And the rest of the cast is quite good. Paul McGann could have easily be the bad new boyfriend you hate but I can’t help but like him.

I’ll be watching.

It’s not a bad series; Idris Elba saves it from being a major fail, fortunately. I don’t like his female nemesis, but that’s just me.

We watched some of the first season, and it is too over-the-top for me. Luther can get away with anything, kill anyone, but he puts up with the female murderer playing with his head. Can’t buy it.

Shodan

This. Although the character strains the limits of watching the actor.

The show is definitely not going to be to everyone’s taste, but I don’t remember being required to suspend my disbelief for the purpose of following the story to any significant degree. Maybe I just didn’t notice because I was so hypnotized, which is possible, but if there were any gaping plot holes, I’d like to think I would have noticed.

No suspension of disbelief when watching Luther? He’s basically Judge Dredd, but in contemporary London, and without a massive jet bike.

I think most of those were by proxy though weren’t they?

edit: and w/o knowledge or consent either as I recall.

I’ve been hoping for a new season. Thanks for the heads up.

Comcast has the first two seasons on demand, so that’s a way to catch up for anyone who has access to that.

Him I don’t mind. The female character is like some sort of prescient super-woman, which is just hard to swallow. Also, I don’t like her mouth. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is where my memory fails me. I remember she was savant-like. I don’t remember her being prescient.

She seems to always know what Luther is doing or what he’s doing next or what other characters are going to do and where they’re going to be. It’s like Lex Luthor in drag.

Just watched the first episode and I thought it was fantastic. There were some truly cringe-worthy moments but fortunately the worst were only suggested rather than graphically portrayed.

Poor Luther once again has to beat the pussy back with a stick - that’s got to suck.

Finished up the 4 episode series and as usual, wow. I missed Alice ‘I have bullets but no gun - how Zen.’

I think it should be called ‘Alice’ and have Luther turn up once in a while.
