Luther Appreciation Thread

That’s BBC’s detective, John Luther.

What a great show! The last two episodes especially had me on the edge of my seat. It’s apparently coming back for another season, though I don’t know when exactly. And…

With two characters gone, specially Zoe, they’ll need to bring something special into the mix.

So who here watched Luther? What did you think of the show? Also, I know I’ve seen the style of ending used in this show elsewhere: music, credits and scenes form the next show. I know it’s not new, but man, did they pull that off!

Okay, I know this a zombie, but I want to raise this sucker. Since I’ve been spending a lot of time at my loom, I tend to watch a lot of TV, or listen to a lot of TV while my hands are busy. I wandered across this show in my On Demand listing and was totally hooked. I’ve watched the first four episodes this past weekend, and can’t wait to see more. Is this show on its second season in England? Is anyone else liking the red-haired pyscho stalking the main character. What kind of a name is Idris for a guy anyway?

I watched this a few weeks back and loved it.

Idris is a welsh male name.
I liked it although it was corny, maybe because it was. The opening scene - bad guy running - good guy walking - ‘you can’t hide from me’ etc. But Idris is just great even when being preposterous.

No second series in UK yet.

Just finished the season finale! Holy crap! They surely can’t leave us hanging like that. Does anyone else get a Hannibal Lecter/ Clarice Starling sort of echo?

Update guys!

Season 2 started! It’s going to be 4 episodes.

Unfortunately it’s only in the UK (and online at BBC HD). I’m in the US and don’t know how I can get my hands on an episode :frowning:

I expect it’s online somewhere.

I haven’t seen season 1, but am enjoying season 2. The plotholes are HUGE, but the style’s great, the bad guys are interesting and I like seeing so many locations near my house on TV.

Only four?:frowning: Is there any news on when it will be back?

I found this show on Netflix and loved it. Luther’s relationship with Alice sort of reminds me of the relationship Detective Goren on Law and Order CI had with Nicole Wallace. Luther and Goren seemed similar early on as well.

I just discovered the first season of this on Comcast On Demand. I went through the whole thing in a couple of evenings

I love this show. Yes, there are confusing plots and sometimes even plot holes but the style and the characters are very good. I love Ruth Wilson as Alice Morgan (the psycho redhead).

I also love the music. It made me buy the Massive Attack CD, Heligoland, which has the Luther theme song Paradise Circus.

So now I can’t wait for season two to be available in the U.S.

I enjoyed the show as well and am hoping netflix gets the next season soon!

Maybe someone can answer a question for me. Several times John Luther spoke with Alice Morgan in a very large room full of many monitors. They seemed to be the only two people in the room. I’m assuming the monitors were computer monitors or possibly were monitors showing the views from London’s ubiquitous CCTV cameras.

Where and what was this room, and why was this large room empty of people except for the two of them? Surely if you spend money to fill a room with that much technology that is specifically designed for human eyes, you’d also fill it with human eyes, right?

Was this perhaps intended as some sort of symbolic statement about the surveillance state rather than something real?

From the Luther Facebook page:

US fans are in for an amazing treat: BET is screening a LUTHER MARATHON all day Sunday! [July 15, 2012]

I liked it. It was a little cliche for my taste, but I must say that the actor who plays Luther and was on The Wire needs more lead rules. He is a great actor and carries the show.

Correction: US fans, BET will be airing the LUTHER marathon starting at 8:30am/7:30C tomorrow, Saturday July 14th, not Sunday as previously posted.

I started a thread on this series back when it was airing, but not much came from it. A lot of people don’t get BBC America and the show was a bit obscure. We really liked it, although his female nemesis was fairly far fetched, and the accents were pretty fick, don’t you fink? CC is called for with this one.

I watched an episode on BBCAmerica. I wanted to love it, but two things really grossed me out.

First, Luther makes Eliot Stabler look mellow. Geez. What a hothead! I don’t think even Eliot destroyed a door. Would someone that unstable (un-Stabler? Hehe) really be so valuable that they’d be kept on the force.

And second…
The first dead body you see at the murder house is a beautiful dog, but that’s not the worst part.

The murderer stuffed the weapon inside the body of the dog after she shot it and her parents and the weapon was mostly destroyed when the dog’s body was disposed of by being burned.

I gave up at that point… didn’t care how any of it came out.

I personally don’t think that that was the worst part of the first season. I’ve seen 4 episodes now, kinda squicked out a little by some of the plot threads.
