Lyrics Game

If we’re going to play games here, how about if we quote lyrics, and the next person has to name the title and artist.

For example, if I said “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love…”

The next person would respond:

"Burt Bacharach, ‘What the World Needs Now’, " and then post a new lyric.

“Josie’s on a vacation far away. Come around and talk it over. So many things that I wanna say. You know I like my girls a little bit older.”

The Outfield, “Your Love”
From each other drinking
Begin with the lips
Fingertips and kissing
Turn me inside out

Rapunzel Dave Matthews Band

Your breath is sweet
Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky.
Your back is straight, your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie.

One More Cup of Coffee, Bob Dylan

In the shadows of tall buildings
of open arches, endlessly kneeling
sonic landscapes, echoing vistas
someone is listening, from a safe distance…

Cathedrals , Jump Little Children
I needed you more
When we wanted us less
I could not kiss just regress
It might just be
Clear simple and plain
That’s just fine
That’s just one of my names

Glycerine, Bush

You were licking your lips and your lipstick shining, I was dying just to ask for a taste, We were lying together in a silver lining

“You Took the Words Right Outta My Mouth”, Meatloaf.

And on the bus today, I met the queen of L.A. -
At least she said she was and who am I to say?
She was sixty-five and full of life,
She had purple-painted cheeks
And glitter on her eyes

Still In Hollywood by Concrete Blonde

Next poster can take the ball and run with it, I just know obscure songs. Welcome MarlaDurden.

It changed
It grew
And everybody knew
Semi-mojo

“Haitian Divorce”, Steely Dan.

A blind bird sings inside the cage that is my heart
And the image of your face comes to me when I’m alone in the dark
If I could give a shape to this ache that I have for you
If I could find the voice that says the words that capture you

(one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite groups)

“Dela”, Johnny Clegg

I have a secret to tell
From my electrical well
It’s a simple message and I’m leaving out the whistles and bells
So the room must listen to me
Filibuster vigilantly
My name is blue canary one note spelled l-i-t-e

Okay, I admit it, I Googled to get “Dela”. But I wanted an excuse to post funky lyrics.

Birdhouse in your soul - they might be giants

Oh yeah… should post new lyrics, huh?

(song title!) through the faraway towns
Now war is declared, and battle come down.
(song title!) to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls.

London Calling - The Clash

Oh right, more lyrics…

“Sometimes, sometimes I see right through the scenery
The first place that’s on my mind the last place I find each time
Sometimes, I swim beyond the scenery
The last place that’s on my mind
The first place I find each time”

Paris Train – Beth Orton
"He’s a radio receiver
Tuned to factories and farms
He’s a writer and arranger
And a young boy bearing arms

He’s got a problem with his power
With weapons on patrol
He’s got to walk a fine line
And keep his self-control"

New World Man, Rush

'Tina says ‘Don’t talk to me like I am deaf and dumb
We’ve broken down and broken up so much that I am numb’

How do I Tell Someone – -- Cowboy Mouth

“We hurdle bodies that lay on the ground
And the Russians fire another round
We get so near yet so far away
We won’t live to fight another day.”

of course I meant How do YOU tell someone… Freudian slip, perhaps?

Iron Maiden - The Trooper

“Propose the worst and I’m the first in line
despite the rest its not a bad sign
You mean the world to me
The city and my soul disagree…”
