the Lyrics game

ok, with all the games going about, thought I’d add my own one.

I’ll post a Lyric form a song.

If you know the song, say what the song is and who sang it (cover versions are accepptable), If you’re right, add your own Lyric and continue again.
the Lyric can be from any part of the song,
but must be recognisible (e.g. putting in “do-be-do-be-do” can be anything from Strangers in the Night to that annoying “Blue” song.

No prizes, but I suppose the person who gets the most correct answers to keep the thread going gets a congratulatory pat on the back from me.

so, lets start

“Daddy flew across the Ocean”

“Cast a cold Eye, On Life, On Death, Horseman, ride by”
W.B. Yeats

Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall Part 1

Here’s my offering :

“Father, I have stolen. Stolen many times. Raised my voice in anger when I know I’ll never shoot”

You have me beat… I have checked all day, but cant find anything… what is it?

“Cast a cold Eye, On Life, On Death, Horseman, ride by”
W.B. Yeats

Puffington, is it Queen’s “Liar”?

Here’s an easy one, but it’s one of my favorite lyrics of all time:

“Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
Then you’d know what a drag it is
To see you”

Trying is the first step to failure

I defy anyone (except possibky Ukulele Ike or Finagle) to pinpoint these, all of which were popular at one time:

. . . Went down to the ocean, stood on the bank; shook my shoulders and the boats all sank . . .

. . . All her royal Zulu band, waits with empty plates in hand . . .

. . . The lady isn’t born yet who can beat me with a lorgnette . . .

. . . We will take a little flat, with a welcome on the mat, where there’s room to swing a cat . . .

I defy Eve to follow the rules and try to answer a lyric before posting 4 new ones.

Trying is the first step to failure

By the way, JohnL, if that is indeed Pink Floyd, the correct lyric is:

“Daddy’s flown, across the ocean.”

“You should tell the truth, expose the lies and live in the moment.” - Bill Hicks

Oh, Stevie, I don’t know any of those new-fangled rock’n-roll songs you youngsters seem to enjoy so much!

Millosarian,
Quite right… I’d better proof read a bit more before I post!!!

to get things rolling again, here’s
stevie’s lyric:

“yes, I wish that for just one time
you could stand inside my shoes
then you’d know what a drag it is
to see you”

anyone?

J
“We should have as high a regard for the church so as to keep it out of as many things as possible”

Fluther Good -the Shadow of a Gunman.
Sean O’Casey

Positively 4th St. ??

Swastika plug in your wear
Jealous stars in your pants
Top turning nothing to bear
Except the view or the dare

Ooops, forgot to mention Dylan as the artist, I thought it was obvious from the name of the song.

Oblio, positively correct.

Oblio, Spirit’s “Prelude-Nothing to Hide”?

Here’s one:

“But who can unlearn all the facts that I’ve learned
As I sat in their chairs and my synapses burned
And the torture of chalk dust collects on my tongue
Thoughts follow my vision and dance in the sun
All my vasoconstrictors they come slowly undone
Can’t this wait till I’m old? Can’t I live while I’m young?”

Trying is the first step to failure

“Chalkdust Torture” by Phish (Yeah, another Phishhead on the board! I thought I was the only one)

Here’s one:

“Her clothes are made of rainbows
And twenty thousand tears
Shine through the spaces
Of her golden ochre hair
Ohh, my babe I want you
And on my life I swear
My conscience will follow you forever
If you meet me everywhere”

Correct. You win a virtual doobie

Puffington, who needs a virtual one, when I’ve got a real one at home.

Dirty Devil, still trying to figure yours out. Off topic, have you heard **Hampton Comes Alive? ** Is it worth the price or should I just stick to buying imports?

Dirty Devil, is it a Cat Stevens song?

Yep, Stevie, Cat Stevens it is (“Angelsea” off of Catch Bull At Four).

BTW, I bought Hampton Comes Alive a couple of months ago. I had one show on tape already, but the sound is (obviously) better on the official release. They’re good shows, but nothing to write home about. They do have some very weird covers on them, though (a Beastie Boys song and a Chumbawumba song, both of which rock). I wouldn’t have picked those two nights if it was up to me. I would’ve taken something from 1992 or 1994 (6/7/94 Sugar Bush is awesome!!!). Buy Hampton if you have the money, but don’t go out of your way.

Do you do any tape trading? I’ve got some great Phish and Dead that I’d be willing to spin for you. Send me an e-mail if you’re interested.

Free beer is ALWAYS a good thing. - Falcon

No, I don’t tape trade. I don’t own a tape player, or a cd burner. I’m one of those idiots that pays for the import CD’s I find in music stores.

And the next lyrics to guess are … ?
