Lyrics help please. What in the blazes is the chorus to Crocodile Rock?

I kinda make it up as I go a long.

Try rockin the sound of shock
And your feet just can’t be still
I never knew me a better time
And I guess I never will

Oh shorty momma! It’s kinda hot
A snooty woman gets uptight
I’m walking like Allah
On a Saturday. . . NIIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT!
Please help me stop doing this.

Here you go:

Well Crocodile Rocking is something shocking
when your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy mama those Friday nights
when Suzie wore her dresses tight
and the Crocodile Rocking was out of sight.

The rest of the song lyrics (and plenty more of Elton’s songs) are here.

*‘Dile rockin
Is somethin’ shocking
When your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew me a better time
And I guess I never will

Oh Lordy, Mama!
Those Friday nights
When Susie wore her dresses tight
‘Dile Rockin’ was out of sight*

Youtube karaoke can be your friend.

I dunno Spoons, kaydad’s words fit a whole lot better.

Well, we’re both pretty close, I’d say. At least neither of us reported that a snooty woman was getting uptight.

It never sounds to me like he’s fully pronouncing “crocodile.” More like “crile rockin was outa sight.”

from lyrics wiki I love this song.

      [snip]
      Crocodile rockin' is somethin' shockin'
When your feet just can't keep still
I never knew me a better time and I guess I never will
Oh Lawdy Mama those Friday nights
When Suzie wore her dresses tight and uh
Crocodile rockin' was-a out of-a sight

     [snip]

But the years went by and the rock just died
Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy
Long nights cryin' by the record machine
Dreamin' of my Chevy and my old blue jeans
But they'll never kill the thrills we got
Burnin' up to the crocodile rock
Learnin' fast as the weeks went past

‘Cro’dile’ to my ear. Or ‘Cro’ile’. Definitely two syllables, though whether or not he pronounces the d seems to change from line to line.

I dunno if you know this ace but you can’t quote entire lyrics. I’ma have to report you to the fucking hall monitors.

That’s only half the song. The second verse isn’t complete either.

There’s other entire verses I didn’t quote.

that’s what I hear on youtube. crile rockin in the chorus. All those words won’t fit the melody unless he shortens them.

Is he talking about the song… Rock Around the Clock? Never been sure.

It sounds more like * cril rockin’ th’ sounda shockin’*. Elton John has always been a problem for me. I got a much older thread here about Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Everyone was very helpful there but I still can’t get the words to the owl and the toad part to reconcile with what my ears are hearing.

I always heard:

Sky rockets! On Friday night!
And your feet just can’t keep still
I never knew we were 'head our time
And I guess I never will.
Oh! some baloney! Friday night!
Suzy wore that dress so tight!
Cry Rockin on-a-ai-yai-yai-yai

It’s something shocking, huh?

I always thought:
Crile rockin’, a-stompin’, chompin’
When your feet just can’t keep still…

It kinda makes sense!

Please link to the lyrics posted elsewhere, instead of quoting big chunks of them yourself.

The real problem is somewho Elton manages to pronounce the word TIGHT in not one, not two but THREE syllables

This is some very funny shit. “Walking like Allah”: hahahahahahahahahahahaha! Oh, mercy me.

To me it sounds like he’s singing “Croc-o-di-ul” rapidly, each syllable on a 16th note, with "rock-in’ " syllables on 8th notes.

Others have chimed in specifically so I will help generically.

Typically, the easiest way to find lyrics is to search the term lyrics and whatever else you know for sure in quotes"

: lyrics “Crocodile Rock”

or

: lyrics “Crocodile Roc” “Elton John”

: lyrics “But the years went by and the rock just died” “Suzie went and left us for some foreign guy”

If the last one doesn’t work, break it into smaller and smaller quotes

: lyrics “years went by” “rock just died” Suzie “left us for” foreign

ad infinitum…

He pronounces ‘crocodile’ in this song in exactly the same manner as we pronounced ‘alligator’ when playing 3 on 3 football in the park when I was a kid: “as quickly as humanly possible”…but if you squint your ears just right you can hear all four syllables.
