Wasn’t “roni” a term for a virgin too?
In Buffalo, “Macking” when used generally often takes a descriptive term just for cadence… “He’s macking hard,” eg.
If the macking is directed at a particular person, you’re “macking on” her, although that might be a regional thing.
I’ve heard it and used it in both senses.

So how does one go about mackin’ the knife?
Possibly interesting comparison: the phrase “making love.”
If you watch enough 30’s movies, you’ll occasionally hear an offended husband interrupting his spouse and a potential paramour: “Were you making love to my wife?” Even though the couple was just sitting on the sofa. In other words, “making love” in the 30’s = “mackin’” in the old sense, whereas nowadays, of course, “making love” = copulation.
Just a thought. Perhaps the phrase has evolved.
