…so… the guy in the white jacket behind the bar… was not a bartender?
I was distracted during that scene.
Nope, a wedding guest with questionable taste in jackets.
In fact, it was Conrad Hilton. Yes, of those Hiltons.
No, he was a guest at a wedding being held elsewhere at the club. Don mistook him for a bartender due to his suit and the fact that he was standing behind the bar.
Edit: S’what I get for getting up while reading a thread.
Amen. Grandpa McCain and Jane are a couple characters I have just no use for. When they’re on screen I find myself waiting for the scene to be over.
I checked. It’s not. Also not available on Hulu or any other quasi-legit website I can find. Think I’ll have to send a nasty note to AMC. Didn’t they used to re-run the hell out of these in the first season? I see next weekend they are about 4-8 showings on episode 4, but I can’t find a listing for a repeat of episode 3.
ETA: according to AMC site they are showing it twice very late tonight / early this morning.
Damn, apparently that was early this morning and not tomorrow morning. Guess I’ll just not watch the rest of the season. Thanks, AMC and Brighthouse cable DVR!
If you have Comcast it’s available On Demand…I know, because I watched it last night.
My friend is buying the episodes off Amazon. You can either buy the whole show to view on demand or just one ep at a time for $1.89/ep.
mad men episodes dot com has all the episodes up.
For some reason, when I go to this site, the screen is blank.
What’s the big deal if Greg doesn’t make chief resident? There can be only one, right? But the other doctors can still make a good living, can’t they?
Well, the 60s were better than the 30s when their boss was a resident and made 1/3 what a kindergarden teacher did. They’re called “residents” because originally doctors who wanted a speciality (all GPs needed was a one year internship) literally resided in the hospital as low paid apprentices. It was assumed that they were young bachelors without a family to support.
I kept waiting for Connie to say “Hey Bartender! Jobu needs a refill!”
The other young doctor at the party was on his way to Texas. Just a guess, but the Texas Medical Center is here in Houston, with some of the finest hospitals in the country. Back then, hospitals with rich patrons were hiring the very best from all over the country–or all over the world. Greg’s colleague is on his way to the big leagues; his wife may be pregnant now because she knows the family’s future is secure.
It appears that Greg was not well liked by his superiors & colleagues. Even before a patient died who probably shouldn’t have.
This is one reason why I love these threads. When I heard them talking about Texas, I assumed the worst: Texas = boonies, the other doctor isn’t a rising star either. Like Stan from South Park, I learned something today.
Don’t give up! If all you’ve missed is one I’d like to suggest that you can catch up by reading the recap at Television Without Pity. There is some editorializing, but they leave very few detaills out.
AMC will run a marathon of the season so far on September 20th–followed by Episode 6.
TwoP has excellent summaries; AMC & other sites also have info. After you’ve seen the shows, read the summaries at Attention Deficit Theater & fall down laughing.
Thanks for posting this - hilarious!
Since this thread’s already been bumped, I’ll take this opportunity to eat my words - if Joan had gained some weight, she’s fought it off. Her figure has the same gorgeous, unlikely proportions it always did. I just wish she spent more time walking away from the camera. swoon
