Mad-Men: 4.10 "Hands & Knees" (open spoilers)

Thank Og Sally finally had something nice happen to her. I loved her SQUEE of happiness and Don holding the phone out so he wouldn’t be deafened.

Poor Lane. I do hope he comes back from the UK and starts a new life. You folks probably heard me yelling “YOU STUPID MOTHER====ER HOW DARE YOU SMACK YOUR GROWN UP SON!!” all the way to the North Pole. What a bastard and a half.

Excellent episode!

Meaning he has to put it all back together and be a family man, whether it’s in the states or across the pond.

How can he be a family man in the states? Drag his wife and kids back over?

I have to admit, I spent most of the time more concerned about whether Sally was going to the concert. I don’t think I would have been able to handle the terrible disappointment of Don not getting the tickets…

Turns out it’s the only good thing that happens to anybody.

Count me in as waiting for the Beatles tickets not to come through. I thought to myself “if that happens, Sally is definitely going to kill someone.”

So glad that Sally had something good happen to her.

And it’s been such a long time since anything good has happened to Sally. That was my major concern, that she’d get screwed out of the tickets. For anyone who cares, they played Shea Stadium August 15, 1965.

I liked the convention of first Joan then Faye pretending to have business conversations by opening the office doors and yelling something vaguely professionalish as they walked out the rooms. It was well bookended.

Yes. His father strikes him about the head with a cane and draws blood. He’d be right in line with Lane putting his foot down (on his wife’s neck if need be) and getting his shit together enough to present a proper appearance - regardless of the side of the pond.

Cane aside, and forty-some years later, I can easily picture my father arguing the same point.

Anybody else get the feeling that Papa Pryce might have been lying about having worked as a surgical supply salesman? Those were some AARP James Bond villain moves, plus he seems to have more claim to Lane than filial duty.

My main complaint about this season has been the lack of a story arc. Didn’t realize they were saving them in a bag to release them all at once. Great acting by Hamm when he thought the G men were coming for him in the hallway, and then immediately afterwards. (This has totally been the season for those who’ve thought previous seasons had too little of Don vomiting.)

I did not like that look Don was giving Meghan at the end. He is such a DOG. Although I think, oddly, Faye knowing everything about him ruins it for him. You’d think it would be a relief, but he really needs to be idealized.

Oh, yeah, Pete, you have NO secrets hanging over your pointy little head .

Don had better not take Meghan to the Beatles, that’s all I have to say.

Had the same reaction to Don’s gaze on Megan–could you stop chasing skirts for just a second, Don? Let me introduce you to your hand and some lotion.

A friend mentioned this about the Dr. Faye relationship, and I may’ve missed it–I wasn’t as attentive this week as I usually am, but I don’t remember seeing them on screen together again–other than a very brief ‘check up’ from Faye–in the rest of the episode.

But Don doesn’t know who the father of Peggy’s kid was–it’s not quite as symmetrical as all that.

Also, hiding the fact that you knocked up a secretary is a little less serious than hiding the fact that you stole somebody’s identity and deserted.

Oh, I wasn’t comparing. I just thought he was being independently sanctimonious.

It’s weird how Don used to be Mr. Cool and Pete was the weasel, and now he’s just a sweaty weasel while Pete is standing up and taking body blows for him.

In real life what would normally happen once they dropped the account, would the background check process really cease immediately?

Joan saying her daughter was 15, and then her lonely bus ride home. :frowning:

No one was flagged as suspicious so I’d assume they’d drop it. No reason to send federal agents around door to door just for fun.

Of the many sadnesses last night, that one was the most profound for me.

But Pete did say Don was flagged.

I’m still shaking my head at the many body (and head) blows everyone took this episode. And I didn’t realize how much I was holding my breath until Meghan gave him those tickets!

Another thing. When the heck did Don and Pete ever have a talk about the specifics of what his identity switch reasons were. IIRC Pete knew he had changed his name and that he was Dick Whitman originally, but that was about it. Don just blurts out “it’s desertion” and Pete acts like he knows exactly what happened.

IIRC he said his report was NOT flagged.

If Don’s story came to light, the North American Aviation contract would be the least of their worries. I think it would pretty much kill the agency. (Assuming the loss of Lucky Strike and North American Aviation doesn’t already do so.)
