Only 4 more episodes left this season.
Well, hot damn Lane. A race relations pioneer.
Perfect song for the closing credits.
Well, that episode sure went from 0 to 50 in a hurry, huh?
Pete really got dicked over on that one. I suppose you could say it was ultimately his fault due to the actions of S1 but still…
We’re going to see who???
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
What a great dad!
I hate to say it, but poor Pete…
Don and Betty really seemed to get along this episode. It was refreshing. I liked how Betty seemed so happy that Don was doing something nice for Sally.
I’m thinking Dr. Faye’s butt is gonna be hitting the door soon . . . and Megan will be backing her shapely one up to Don
Wow, that was all kinds of messed up.
I was half-expecting Roger to take a header out the window. Or to blackmail the Lucky Strikes jerk with the Sal incident. Of course, I was also half-expecting Don to man up when Pete was taking the fall for him.
… apparently, I forgot what show I was watching. :smack:
Can’t wait to see how Pete’s gonna call in that favor.
And yeah, Don and Betty were as civil to each other here as they’ve ever been. The calm before the storm?
They’re doing a nice job of setting up the season finale. Is Lane divorced from his wife or just separated? Either way, his father was unbelievably cruel. (And what was the name of the restaurant in which Roger met the client from Lucky Strike?)
I don’t know how to vote on this episode. It was fantastically done, but extremely painful to watch. Poor Lane. I literally gasped out loud at least three times in that scene, and then felt so terrible for him when he presented his plan at the meeting with such false cheer.
God, everyone got it roughly this episode. Except Sally.
I don’t understand Lane. Why did he capitulate? What does his father have over him?
I actually didn’t quite understand Pryce the Elder’s statement along the lines of, “get your affairs in order, either over there or over here. You can’t be in between.”
Anyone have any insight?
He dig.
“Give me thirty days. After all the lies I told for you, you owe me that.”
So what is Roger going to do over the next thirty days? And who was he calling in his office? Was he simply cold-calling every potential client looking to drum up business to replace Lucky Strike? Why didn’t he tell the other partners the bad news?
BTW, didn’t Roger’s physician direct them to another one in New Jersey? I just looked up the legal status of abortion, and apparently it was illegal in New Jersey but legal in New York State. So why go to New Jersey?
Does Roger even know about the Sal incident? That’d be quite a nice lever if he did, but I think the only person who knows is Don, and Roger is pretending that Lucky Strike is thumbs up. ETA: Dewey, that’s how I read it–he was going through his rolodex looking for absolutely any business he could drum up.
I spent the whole episode worrying that Harry wasn’t going to come through on those Beatles tix–but what an experience for Sally! She’ll be talking about that her whole life.
Lots of plot this ep. Interesting how readily Don let Dr. Faye in on his secret–and has anyone else noticed how many Doctors we’ve got this season? Dr. Faye, Dr. Lyle Evans, Dr. Edna, plus a few stray ob/gyns associated with the Joan subplot. I wonder whether the DoD is really going to let this drop so easily–it seems like it wouldn’t take much to scratch Don’s story…
I’d say a lifetime of abuse.
I think his statement of “Get your affairs in order, etc.” that some didn’t understand is pretty standard stuff with regard to a conservative parent disapproving of both the impending divorce and his son’s defection to the U.S. Lane isn’t in the U.S. at the order of his company any longer. He’s choosing to be here, and he loves it here. I think the latter probably bothers Pryce, Sr. more than the divorce.
I think I found something else I don’t like about the Don and Faye relationship (I really don’t like Faye). Unlike Don and Peggy, or Joan and Roger, Don and Faye don’t seem to have any fun, playful, jokey moments that ring true to me (the whole scene with the two of them in bed last episode seemed really artificial). Most of their conversations involve Don being all emo and her being all good supportive girlfriend with profound words of advice. Shouldn’t they at least tickle each other or something?
It wasn’t. An 1830 law in New York State criminalized abortion after “quickening” except to save the life of the mother, and that law was in force until it was repealed in 1970, which legalized abortion on demand up to 24 weeks.
In 1964, abortions were almost impossible to legally obtain in the US. That didn’t start to change until 1967, when Colorado, California, Oregon, and North Carolina all legalized abortion in cases of rape or incest, or when the pregnancy would cause permanent physical mental or physical disability in either infant or mother.
You really think this is the first time Pryce the Elder hit Lane with his cane? :dubious: Daddy’s been doing this since Lane was a little kid and Lane clearly suffered psychological damage as a result. His father’s what, 70/80? Lane could take him, but just meekly says “Yes, sir”.
NYS did not allow abortion on request until 1970; Roger’s physician sent her to NJ because that’s where the doctor who performed them happened to have his practice. Legallity wasn’t a concern (thought the doctor didn’t even want directions in his handwritting).
That should be interesting. BTW, would SCDP really have any hope of keeping that contract after the DoD discovered the truth about Don? :dubious: It’s the height of the Cold War, involvement in Vietnam is getting deeper; would a government contractor (that deals with highly classified tech) really want anything to do with a company who’s senior partner just got outed as a deserter who lied trying to ger a security clearance?
