I watched last week’s again this morning, and again I missed something: what did Peggy say, after having a few at the party, that was so upsetting she went to apologize to Don?
It looked like she was making clear to everyone including Megan that she was working all weekend with the big shots were partying.
She made a somewhat catty comment about having to work over the weekend. It was one of those things that would have been fine to say to a coworker, but a bad idea to say to a boss.
Megan wasn’t really pissed about the comment anyway. She was upset that Don didn’t like the party and especially that Peggy warned her that Don wouldn’t like it.
One thing I found interesting is that the Heinz Beans guy, lack of humor aside, was more in touch with the zeitgeist of the times than Don or Peggy. The idea of protesting beans - sure, it was lame, but at least it was in the right direction. The SCDP guys don’t have a clue about what’s going on out there and how it’s changing their world.
He was also one of the very very few clients that had a realistic view of his product. Nearly every other client has an inflated view of their product’s appeal – like the steel guy who complained about Salvatore’s cityscapes not featuring I beams.
I’d say it’s coming, but it’s not there yet. Trivializing civil rights protests would have hurt the company’s image at that time. It was only later, when protests had become commonplace, that a commercial like that would be okay.
I was thinking more in general terms. He at least was trying to figure out what the younger generation would be interested in; Don, OTOH, couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the younger generation.
I really enjoyed the episodes; not as slow as folks have mentioned. I have only watched the series on and off, but I will get into this one. I had not seen Joan and Roger in the first season, and then saw recently a video clip. WOW—pretty hot for Roger being older!
Looking at Wiki, I didn’t even realize Joan was older, like 34, 35? That she had been working for the ad agencies since age 22! SO both Betty and Joan went to Bryn Mawr?
