Mad-Men: 6.04 "To Have & to Hold" (open spoilers)

Oh, that’s right. Thank you.

Nobody has been commenting on the flashbacks in episode 3.

The flashbacks show how Dick Whitman mastered his gifted junk by obtaining schooling from every whore in that place, for probably a few years. (Gladwell’s 10,000 hours)

We already knew Don Draper was born to be an effortlessly handsome man, equipped with certain Olympian penile qualities. We know that his father was an alpha male horndog who died via a horse kick to the face, and his mother was a hot prostitute who died in Don’s childbirth.

Through previous seasons, we have seen that Don is utterly self-confident in his sexual prowess. He found his second wife after telling her, as his secretary, to stop him after four drinks. She stopped him. Then he fucked her on the couch, then she married him.

The episode with the wife of the comedian revealed that Don’s name is all over town as a good lay.

Don’s struggle is not with his ethics or morality. He just needs to get that jock under control. Maybe age or lung cancer will slow his dick down…

Watching Mad Men right before you go to bed while reading SCP stories can cause some interesting dreams. Last night I dreamed Don was doing a pitch for hotels. The actual ad was happening as he described it. A young couple, possibly honeymooners check into their room. As they close the door they quickly realize that this room & everything in it is made of wax. But instead of being upset they’re delighted and the woman begins to laugh. Pete & some other men are watching from the window with his nose pressed against the glass.

Is the room on a high floor?

And, are the walls made of wax?

If so, that would segue nicely into the opening title sequence.

I watched part of this season’s first episode the other day. I had almost forgotten that the very first image we see is a shot of the doctor resuscitating someone in the lobby of Don & Megan’s apartment building. We see it from the POV of the person he is trying to save, and we get no context to let us know who is being CPR-ed.

A little while later, we get the flashback scene depicting the doorman keeling over from a heart attack. Don, Megan & Sylvia watch as the doctor CPR’s the doorman. It all was a big fakeout on the audience. We were led to believe that Don (or one of the major characters) was having a heart attack. But instead, it was just the intigating factor that led Don & Megan to meet and become friendly with the doctor & Sylvia.

But what if it’s a double fake-out? In the first flashback, all we know for sure is that the doctor is trying to save someone (and a woman is standing nearby screaming.) There is nothing from the first flashback image that directly links it to the second. For all we know, there may be two separate incidents in which someone keels over in the lobby of the building and the doctor must come to the rescue. (Hey in a city as big as NYC, such coincidences are bound to happen.) So, perhaps Don is fated to have a life-threatening heart attack in that same lobby and either Megan or Sylvia will be a witness to it. Just a possibility I thought of, what do you think are the chances for that happening?

We saw Megan in both scenes and she was wearing the same dress. I think it’s safe to say it was the same heart attack.

I think everything was made of wax, except the couple. I don’t think it could be on a high floor since Pete & co were standing outside the window.

Zero.

I think Don is more likely to get shot by an irate husband.

At 92, which some of us think might be the perfect way to go.
