Mad-Men Final Season to be split in 2!

AMC is splitting Mad Men’s finale season in two; 7 episodes to air in the spring of 2014 & 7 to air in the spring of 2015! I’m really not happy about that. Weiner doesn’t seem like he’s all that enthusiastic about the split either.

Musta been good for revenue when they tried it with Breaking Bad.

How utterly boring and predictable.

Sucks. I love the show but just wrap it up. Seven episodes a year over two years is just crap.

I think AMC is really worried about losing both Breaking Bad and Mad Men. It took HBO a long time to recover from the end of The Sopranos.

Quelle fucking surprise.

With The Walking Dead currently at its high point, AMC doesn’t have to worry about that.

The only good thing I see is giving Kiernan Shipka another year to mature, though she would still be only 15 when the final seven episodes are shot. And why do I feel like a creep thinking that?

You have a thing for sullen teenaged girls who exude vehement contempt for their parents in every waking breath? :stuck_out_tongue:

It will be interesting to see if two years pass in the Mad Men fictional timeline. I doubt it very much. I’d like to see them cover the first lunar landings and finish out the decade.

So give us another season of Breaking Bad then, bitch. If Gilligan won’t play ball, stuff him into the trunk of a car and drive him out to a hole in the desert.

Quelle indeed. As predictable as any big-three sitcom episode.

And well-earned contempt at that.

Audience Analyst: You know, people are really into binge watching nowadays. They really like to bunch up episodes close together.

AMC exec: I have a brilliant idea! Let’s spread out episodes over a long period of time!

Audience Analyst: You never listen to a word I say. You’re an idiot.

AMC exec: No, not Yale, I went to Harvard.

This could be just enough for me to lose interest in the maunderings of Don Draper, moody asshole.

Maybe it’s a just a silly pet peeve of mine, but the spring of 2014 and the spring of 2015 are clearly two different seasons, and TV show episode blocks (of whatever length) airing a full year apart should be referred to as two different seasons as well, IMO…does this drive anyone else a little crazy??

As I’ve said somewhere… I long for the days when the “season” began in September with 26 episodes and reruns happened predictably in the summer.

Wikipedia:

I don’t think they’re splitting up the filming schedule too; just the broadcast schedule.

You’re not alone. I especially hate the phrase “mid-season finale” marketing drops.

Back in the day, I seemed to have a thing for sullen teenaged girls who had a vehement contempt for me.

I don’t get why they do this. Did it happen before Battlestar Galactica did it?

Why not just call it two seasons? It’s clearly two short seasons to me.

There was some show about mobsters that had a couple of long hiatuses and a split final season, but I don’t think anyone remembers it.

I’d guess it’s one season because it was all shot at one time and is one continuing narrative, versus the previous seasons with their approximately six month gaps in the story.

What it does clearly feel like is jerking the audience around for the sake of an extra Emmy run.
