Mad TV

I just started watching this show.
I love it.
It takes chances the way SNL used to but doesn’t anymore.
The women are really good, too.
Anyone else?

You have really been missing out if you only started watching, the show is consistently very good.

Nicole Sullivan rocks and the “Lowered Expectations” dating service is my favourite series of sketches.

Last week was funny; they had a commercial featuring t-shirts for toddlers with not the usual sayings on them.
One said Broken Condom. Ha!

Yeah, MAD TV was a good show. I stopped watching when much of the original cast left. They’d still be a good show if they didn’t go to a freakin’ commercial after every sketch. That is so damn annoying.

Cabana Chat!!

I like it, too.

The biggest differences between it and SNL, in my book,
are

-They bother to find and write good endings for the sketches.
-They have far fewer “shows within shows.” I get so sick
of all the talk show and game show sketches on SNL - doesn’t
anybody ever call them on it?
-If they have a guest, the guest is in for one sketch only,
and they actually seem to know their lines for that one
sketch.

I started watching about a year ago, and I like the show. It starts here 30 minutes earlier than SNL.

Since Monday was a holiday, I was up late Sunday night. At 11PM, TNN (what was The Nashville Network - I don’t know what they call it now) was showing MadTV from the first season.

[hijak]TNN=The National Network. They’ve got POP.[/hijak]

I watched Mad TV from the beginning but sort of drifted away from it. They repeated characters and sketch ideas so often that it began to feel like I was watching a bunch of mini-shows of the ongoing adventures of a few of them. Not necessarily a bad thing with a show like “Cabana Chat,” but after about the third go-around of Miss Swan and her “he looook…like a man” bit I was ready to open fire. Now I tune in pretty much during the commercials of the other stuff I’m watching and the dose is just about right. Except that Stuart and the horrid barren Precious Moments collecting freak both need to be retired. And “Kenny Rogers’ Jackass” should be shown every week.
