I’ve never had any use for Madona, but give the woman her due. A LOT of other musical acts were just getting started in 1983. Which of them BESIDES Madonna was selling millions of records in 1983 and is still selling millions of records now?

Again, I’ve never liked her or her music, but anyone who’s STILL saying “Go away, Madonna, your 15 minutes are up” is missing something important: she’s NOT a flavor of the month! She’s been a huge star for 20 years now! That is NOT a small accomplishment!
Sub, interesting that you should bring up Bowie, as I hadnt thought of him in the Madonna context. I think the difference is that you can see (via the obvious self-consciousness of it) that he is truly doing it out of artistic experimentation, whereas Madonna is doing it to follow the trends.
In the middle, there are artists I cant figure out of they were trend-following or experimenting, such as the Cure with “wrong number” (dancier techno) and Catherine Wheel with “Sparks are gonna fly” (nu-metal). But I know what Madonna is doing.
