MAD's: Anyone got a kitty for adoption?

Sadly, my teenage daughter’s cat died last week. She wants a new one, but wants a kitten. It has to be male.

I know there have been times in the past when some of the MAD’s (Mid-Atlantic Area Dopers) have had kittens available for adoption.

So, do you have anything promising?

Thanks!

Co-worker took in a pregnant semi-feral cat and gave her to her relative – just had 4 kittens, still too young to leave Mommy.

She is definitely in the market to find good homes for one or more kittens in the near future. I can provide pictures soon if this sounds interesting.

If you were in TN, I’d offer you a couple – we have some strays that keep the vermin down in our 8+ acres and one of them just gifted me with 4 new babies Tuesday. If you’re planning on being in middle TN around May, let me know and you can have any of the kittens that you like.

Where are you located? I’m in western Maryland, but my hubby works down in the Baltimore area, so it wouldn’t be a problem to pick a kitty up there if we decided to go that route.

Northern Virginia. My wife and I have driven to MD before as one leg in interstate transport of rescued kittens (I call it the World’s Cutest Underground Railroad.)

I’m not totally sure where the co-worker’s relative is actually domiciled, but I’m sure we could make this work somehow. Perhaps we could all wear trenchcoats and handcuff the cat carrier to our wrists and meet at Checkpoint Charlie for the exchange. Uh…sometimes I miss the Cold War, sorry.

I’ll pester the co-worker tomorrow for pics for you and the prospective kitten-adopter herself to eyeball.

Uh, sorry, but trenchcoats and handcuffs are things my husband and I reserve for when we’re alone. . .

Yeah, pics would be great.

They’re newer than I thought – born March 14th.

That means they’re not immediately available – kittens need to stay with their mom for 8 weeks minimum, and many experienced catfolks recommend somewhere between 9-12 weeks.

On Memorial Day Weekend these kittens will be ten full weeks old; that might be a good compromise.

The shots don’t give as good a view of the kittens’ coloration as I’d like…I will see if she can get some better pics as they grow into the adorable waddly stage.

There’s 4 kittens, and they’ll have to go to a shelter unless she can find loving homes. For now, my co-worker will have them at her house; her nephew is already leaving his current situation and won’t be keeping the mama cat. :smack:

I’m willing to go to some trouble to help these little critters find good homes.

Sailboat, do you happen to know which of these kittens may be boy kittehs? We definitely need a boy. My daughter really, really, really likes the one that appears to be mostly black with white stripes on its tail.

Thanks!

You haz kitteh yet?

We have a 2 week old litter, about 2/3 are boys. The bad news is we live in extreme NE NC. Maybe we can meet you in DC or so?

Or perhaps a kitty bucket brigade?

A bucket of kittens is a horribly cute idea.

We no haz kitteh yet. DC would be workable, probably, especially seeing as how my hubby works in the Baltimore area. When would they be ready to go? We are going to be in the Baltimore area on the 18th of this month for a wedding, though that may be too soon?

U haz kitteh pix?

Hey, I’m already goin’ to hell. Might as well have fun gettin’ there.

When I say ‘18th of this month’, I meant ‘April’. :smack:

U can haz kitteh pix in a bit. Hav 2 take them…

We also have a 4 month old boy that the adopters backed out on.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I wish I needed a kitteh. :frowning:

Cool. U sendz pix, we will let u know, kthx.

Toby, the 4 month old boy kitteh. No haz pix of newborns yet.

“GAAAA! Cold finger!”

He’s adorable! My daughter asked if he responds to the name “Toby” yet (because she already has a name picked out). I said “Honey, it’s a cat. They don’t respond to anything unless they damned well want to!”
