It’s been a while since we’ve had a game of Mafia on the SDMB; I’ve got a fairly straightforward (albeit somewhat unconventional) setup ready to go and permission from Idle in my inbox, so what think? Anyone interested? Register for the game by posting to this thread - for anyone who’s never played before, this version will be a little unusual but not a bad first game as these things go.
Dammit, I want to play this really bad, but I’m about to go into rehearsals so I would not be able to keep up. Sorry! I will try to follow along, though - sounds like a hoot.
Rules! Let’s talk about rules; you’re in favor of those, aren’t you?
The setup is simple. Two sides, and two sides only. Yours and Mine. Yours wins if all of mine are gone; mine wins if there are as many of us left as you (or more!). No third parties, no interlopers: you have my word, and I’m notoriously scrupulous. Two sides, one winner.
Each Day we’ll get together in the dining room and have a vote. Everyone can vote for as many targets as they’d like, and whoever has the most votes at the end o’ the Day walks the metaphorical plank (possibly a literal plank; you think that’d give it a nice touch?) Strict democracy is a grand thing. If there’s a tie, we’ll figure out who got to the jackpot number of votes first. And then they’ll be… LATE, I suppose.
Of course, Mine will use our OWN methods of trimming the guest list. Each Night…
No –Night-time killing’s yesterday’s news. Mine will work during the Day, same as Yours. Who needs Night? We’ll do it all by Day: our snooping, our doctoring, our blocking, and our stabbing. Everything will happen all at once; our daily lynching and all of the fun games that certain prior get-togethers have reserved for evening. We’ll say seven real-life days to correspond to each of our little Days?
Now, of course, some of Yours and nearly all of Mine will have their little tricks and skills. But many of Yours will not. However, everyone – Yours, Mine, and ours, will come to the party in possession of a single clue about the details of our little game. Here’s the twist; most of these clues will be utterly true – but a few will be the basest of lies. The clues given to Mine will of course be 100% reliable. But some of yours will get honest clues and some will get lies. It should be no problem, though; I’m sure Yours will figure out which is which.
peeker has said he’ll play over on Idle’s board. This puts us about four short of the approximately minimum, but I think the game will play best at around 20. I’ll hold sign ups open until we reach 20 or until Tuesday evening, whichever comes first. In any case, I’d like to run each Day Wednesday through Wednesday, so a Wednesday morning (Eastern) start is likely if we have sufficient players by then.
