Well I certainly, did not get Pleo’s response to pede’s comment as a request for him to claim, JSexton. I certainly did think that it was kind of a squirrelly comment to make, however. But in the absence of anything else it’s just, Hmmm at this point.
And just an observation on timing. We get a couple of extra days toDay but when we hit the real schedule there are going to be some quick turnarounds. I just hope that we have a sense of urgency.
Wow, talk about squirrelly. So, were you just going to accept a simple response of “no, it’s not an admission of anything”? Because that’s the only logical response, regardless of ped’s actual role. And if there’s only one logical response, there there’s no point asking the freaking question.
No, despite some weasel wording, the real question was a push for ped to reveal role information. I simply see no other motivation for it. You list a matrix of possibilities, but here’s the thing: they only apply if you expect ped to give details of his role, which you just denied that you were looking for!
JSexton. Not feeling the vibes at all, my friend. It’s probably something that I would have commented on if I were not always so late to the game. Just not seeing it, sorry. But while you are here and since everyone references you on game composition, care to take a stab about what we are up against. I mean, you did bring the Mafia scoring tablets down from the mountain.
Sorry, am going to get nailed by the fluff grinch but … Peekkid#4 nailed Tchaikovsky’s Sugar Plum Fairy and then topped it off with a curtain call of Leontovich’s Carol of the Bells. I was the only dad wearing socks with my sandals. And the only dad that had a kid that brought the flippin’ house dowm. Woot, woot eleven/twelve year old kid piano concerts rock at this time of year.
Mm. Well, we’ll see. I think there’s a good chance that there’s something here, and I ain’t done with it yet. I certainly haven’t seen anything better to turn to.
goes back to gnawing on Pleo’s leg
You know, I do appreciate this, but sometimes I feel like it’s overrated. It’s far from a perfect system, and several people have contributed to it more than I. I also don’t see it as a powerful analysis tool, since it relies on better information than the town ever has.
In more general terms, though, I haven’t seen nearly enough of this game to hazard any guesses. I’m very glad that storyteller has already said there’s no recruitment, or I’d be fearing a turn-to-zombie mechanic.
Once we’ve had some actual reliable information, I’ll be more than happy to weigh in with the stuff in my head.
Ok. Quick question. I have seen all the movies but am not the most attentive individual in the world. Subtlety is lost on me. Is there any part of the movies where characters kind of glom on someone else to hide their yuckiness/scumminess? And did they advance their win condition by doing so?
Calling out pedescribe’s slip isn’t that scummy I think, but since the slip could mean: 1) the color was cool, 2) he got a cool role (not specifically town or scum, just a with day/night action), I don’t see the reason to vote for him.
What do you all think of the people involved in the ‘tell your target’ plan?
Bad strategy isn’t a scum tell people say, but the second line quoted comes after two posts from Storyteller the game has started and the first vote is cast. Rapier42 replies that ‘This is an awesome idea’, reason for Pleonast to vote for him.
The idea gets modified to only naming the target or even just last Nights target.
Another interesting post:
It’s flawed, but let’s do it anyway?
Today’s posts from Chucara include ‘How to figure out power roles have alpha/beta status’ (why not if scum do?) and masons should breadcrumb (though not sure I interpret that right).
Still Chucara is just suggesting strategies, while Pleonast supported a bad one while pointing out that similar strategies were not a good idea.
Getting ready to drop myself in the eternal grease pit/fire where I do seem to reside on a habitual basis. Regarding the claim and night action reveals.
Not seeing how the claim thing does a whole bunch. Assuming that town is truthful and anti town just makes stuff up what do we gain? Since composition is conjecture at this point any value would be predicated on a normal distributution being skewed by non normal claims (help me out here blam). I just don’t know enough at this point to be able to put faith in a “normal distribution” and therefore what the claims might lead to. And this is total conjecture about composition (thanks a whole not JSexton). But who is to say that one group contains power roles and the other contains Vanilla. That’s not the type of data point that I want to establish for the scummers.
The night action thingie sounds intriguing, but … It assumes compliance and participation by most, if not all of the players. My experience with this game is that trying to get this group on the same page is like trying to herd cats. It seems to be, generally, relatively easy to get a plurality. A little more difficult to get a majority. And, nigh on impossible to get an overwhelming concensus. If only us townies go along then it seems that too much information would be provided to the scum and any non town elements, if they exist.
Mod question: What happens if someone does not participate enough (in the infallible conclusion of the Og)? Are they killed, replaced or what? And if removed from the game, what information does the town receive, if any
Pedescribe, how often/many times have you played Mafia?
Saying your PM is pretty cool I can put down to being new after a couple games, but if you’ve played more than a few - you should know better, right?
Also I would interpret your explanation as a slight fib. The use of the ellipsis (…) is for purposely missing out words or more commonly misused as a pause.
The ellipsis used as a pause makes sense if you were talking about your PM, but if you were talking about the game (as a whole; as you say in your explanation) then why deliberately leave the most important part of the sentence out? And leave it for us to misinterpret.
I do feel that it is a genuine slip, but the explanation is rather awkward for me.
And this is total fluff so Pleo et. al. should just go right past.
I love this time of year. With two tweeners still in the house. One a national piano player and the other a state clarinest (word?). The music that they make is pretty fantastic. Kind of like Timbuk3 meets Sponge Bob. And since they are close enough to the whole Santa Claus thing but now realize that peekdad is really SC I get a whole skeedaddle of input for the next week. They are smart but so myopic that they think compliance with my wishes will result in a more favorable outcome come the 25th. Never realizing that they are already set. One week of free live jazz, no TV, and no video games. Sheesh, am I the luckiest person in the world, or what?
Sounds like it’s going to be a very harmonious and peaceful household this Christmas, peeker. Well, until the missus finds out how naughty that elf costume really is ;D
One other thing: I can’t find anywhere if we discussed it or not, but how many scum are we looking at? With 27 players would that be around 5-6 scum?
Y’know Macey this is why I was trying to get JSexton or anyone else, at this point, to weigh in on composition. I guess ultimately it doesn’t matter. Eventually we have to lynch the scum and non town players, if any. That’s a given assuming story is not pulling a Gastard, and I just don’t see that coming from his retentive nature.
But, for me, it kind of sets a goal. And I know that nothing is absolute but I do like having something to aim at. And I have never designed a game so I don’t quite grasp the thought process on structuring. That’s why I ask the folks that have done this kind of stuff (and are good at it) what we are looking at.
And maybe conjecture is just so hypothetical that it becomes noise but it does help moi get my head around what potentially is going on.
You will receive the same information when a player dies or is removed from the game, regardless of by what mechanism that death/removal may have occurred. Other than that, on the subject of enforcement of participation, I refer to you the Rules (see below); enforcement will vary according to situation according to the discretion of me (assisted by my confederates in the peanut gallery), and will be discussed in private and not in the game thread.
Five sounds about right, using what I understand to be convention (square root of the number of players). Six seems too much unless there are a heck of lot of town power roles. And four doesn’t seem enough unless the scummers have some additional powers other than kill and Godfather.
Sheeps, just kind of going off stuff that has stuck in my head from other games.
Sorry I can’t be more helpful. Maybe a previous Mod or game designer could weigh in and show me my ignorance.
