Dusk, Day Four
EXT – The Town Square. CLOSE ON: orthohedron, as the noose slips about his neck.
ORTHOHEDRON
Let it be known to all and sundry that my last words were these. In the end, the most important thing is –
A snapping sound, and trapdoor gives way. CUT TO: Askthepizzaguy’s rotting corpse, sometime later. He is wearing a jaunty top hat. He smiles toothily – well, as best he is able – and, improbably, begins to sing.
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
Just a gigolo,
And everywhere I go,
People know the part I’m playing.
Paid for every dance
Selling each romance
Every night some heart betraying
As the singing continues, we CUT TO a secret spot in the middle of the forest. Yes, that’s right; we’ve wandered right into a MONTAGE. A shadowed figure addresses a few other shadowed figures.
SHADOWED FIGURE
We have done well. Soon, my brothers and/or sisters… soon we will walk among them, and they will fear us.
The figure steps forward into the moonlight; we see only a bit – a tuft of fur, a long, angry scar, lethal incisors – but it is enough to know that we have set our eyes on the leader of the wolves. The singing continues as the other shadowed forms nod.
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
There will come a day youth will pass away
then what will they say about me?
CUT TO – A room in an attic somewhere in Town. Another unidentifiable form stands looking out a window at the town. Behind this form, on the floor, we see dark, crimson stains.
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
When the end comes I know,
they’ll say ‘just a gigolo’
as life goes on without me
CUT TO – Orthohedron’s body, swinging still in the moonlight, quite untransformed. Pizzaguy sits peacefully at the foot of the scaffold.
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
'Cause I aint got no body
nobody nobody cares for me…
CUT TO – More villagers, in rapid sequence. Sleeping, eating, eavesdropping, hard at work on tasks that are ostensibly mundane but somehow fraught with hidden meaning.
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
I’m so sad and lonely…
THE MOOSE HEAD (from the Tavern)
sad and lonely sad and lonely…
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
Won’t some sweet Mama come and take a chance on me?
CUT TO – Pizzaguy. He doffs his hat, taking what’s left of his hair with it.
ASKTHEPIZZAGUY
'Cause I aint so bad…
FADE TO BLACK
orthohedron, a Peasant Redshirt, has been lynched.
