[Mafia game] The Realm of Phere

OOC:

If the 72 hour long days are too short for folks, and a lot of you object, I could extend the rounds. I want to keep the rounds shorter than a whole week because this game could last even longer than the previous game I hosted, depending on how it is played.

I will need about 24 hours at the end of every phase just to calculate all the results of things and send everyone updates as to their status, then night phases are complicated as well and will require at least 3 days plus an update day. That’s already 8 days per day/night cycle. I don’t want to stretch it much longer than this.

Can we adapt to the shorter cycle, or must we extend it?

See personally I don’t mind the game lasting a while, but you know, maybe folks’ schedules change in the coming month(s) or someone else wants to host and stuff. Just thinking about that stuff.

I’m actually okay with the shorter days, because it’s a nice change of pace. Certainly the conversation seems a little more brisk.

Only downside is, some people might struggle to post each Day. Put me down as “okay with shorter days,” but I’m also okay with longer.

I see this being an issue, though. Conversation stops at night, because there’s little point in telling the scum team what you plan to do or who you plan to target once Day breaks. 3 days of silence will really put a hurt on the conversation every single Dawn.

I like shorter Days. Can I vote for shorter Nights?

If Nights are going to be really long, can we start the Day at the same time each week? Otherwise I’m going to lose track and end up missing Days.

Dear gnarly, I feel you are misrepresenting my vote. I did not vote** visor** for his OMGUS vote, I voted for him for voting someone not in the game and I do agree that it was a very weak vote. I was not following** Weedy**'s vote either, look at the time stamps (well my vote did follow hers but that was because I had to login, my post had already been typed up in word). The votes that followed mine however seem very strange. I haven’t got much time at the moment but I will read more thoroughly later today.

BTW I haven’t placed an OMGUS vote for ages :stuck_out_tongue: but I can start again if you want me to, from the queen of OMGUS.

I expect it will be otherwise. In my experience, conversation at Night means quiet Days. But if people don’t talk at Night, they’re going to be brimming with suggestions, accusations, gambits and the like once the Day starts.

Also, if it’s not a mod-enforced fluff night, people are going to talk strategy regardless.

Also, if we are going to have 3 day Days, it might be better not to have them over the weekend, if this board is like Giraffeboard.

Wow. You made a k

SilverJan has already pointed out that she didn’t vote Visorslash for OMGUSing. To be fair, she has cited his OMGUS as a reason for not unvoting but still, not quite the same. What made you pick SilverJan from among the players who voted Visorslash? (Weedy-apparently a joke vote, Silver-for voting a non-non-player, Mosier-because he agrees with Suburban that Visorslash is annoying, Mahaloth-for no apparent reason other than being the leading wagon, Septimus- for being antagonistic and as a placeholder for a vote,

Stupid iPhone posted as I was editing… I can’t go back to do all those quotes again now but:
SilverJan accuses gnarly of misrepresenting her vote. While it’s true that her vote on Visorslash was initially a joke, she explicitly kept her vote on him due to his OMGUS vote and mentioned this twice, why the denial?

And to gnarly, what made him choose Silver from among the voters on Visorslash?

OOC:

Nights are about equally important, action-wise, as day phases. If the nights are too short, people may not have a chance to send in night actions. Most advanced character classes will have night actions. I’ll play it by ear.

**[COLOR=Blue]Even the basic vanilla classes have day actions, and I’d remind folks that they don’t have much time left to send in such actions for day one.

Once night begins, it’s night, and day actions are officially late and therefore not going to be accepted.

I’m going to be as consistent as possible, but my schedule does vary.

I know this much, 5PM my time is when I’m usually at work, so I’m probably going to need to switch the posting of the results/changing of the phases into sometime in the early morning hours, which sucks. But, I could keep the end of phase times around 5PM for convenience.

I’d imagine a schedule like this:
[ul]
[li]Thursday 5PM- Day Officially Begins, 72 hours remain.[/li][li]Sunday 5PM- Day Ends, no more day actions accepted, no more votes accepted.[/li][li]Monday 3AM, after I come home from work- Calculating results and posting the result of the lynch, updating people’s information. True end of Day Phase, Announce Night Phase beginning.[/li][li]Wednesday 5PM- Night Phase Ends, but late orders may still be accepted while I am at work, if I am at work. The actual deadline is past, however, so when I get home, that’s that. Calculate results and post result of Night events, update people’s information. **Announce Start of Day. **Votes and discussion can begin early, as soon as night phase is posted and PMs are all sent out.[/li][li]Thursday 5PM- Day “Officially” Begins, 72 hours remain.[/li][/ul]
This should give Thursday and Friday people some time to discuss and vote. I could also intentionally delay a couple of rounds and push this schedule so that “Day” phases begin on Monday, leading to this:

[ul]
[li]Monday 5PM- Day Officially Begins, 72 hours remain.[/li][li]Thursday 5PM- Day Ends, no more day actions accepted, no more votes accepted.[/li][li]Friday 3AM, after I come home from work- Calculating results and posting the result of the lynch, updating people’s information. True end of Day Phase, Announce Night Phase beginning.[/li][li]Sunday 5PM- Night Phase Ends, but late orders may still be accepted while I am at work, if I am at work. The actual deadline is past, however, so when I get home, that’s that. Calculate results and post result of Night events, update people’s information. **Announce Start of Day. **Votes and discussion can begin early, as soon as night phase is posted and PMs are all sent out.[/li][li]Monday 5PM- Day “Officially” Begins, 72 hours remain.[/li][/ul]

This schedule would allow weekday people to have the entire day phase. The issue would be that night phases will always occur on weekends. If you have difficulty with weekends, you’d have to get your night actions in on Friday, which is still do-able.

This would also limit the game to a maximum of 1 week per day/night cycle, which would be IDEAL.

If this sparkles with everyone, then it will be my goal going forward. Obviously 24 hour delays can be expected as sometimes I do work a 50 hour week and my schedule shifts around.

a shorter cycle works for me. either is okay.

ha ha ha! you’re right. i misread. OMGUS all you want. i don’t really vote people for that.

Unvote Silver Jan

it was the one that stood out. i’ve played with her the most and i feel i know her play better. it was a meta thing. on reread, i was mistaken. she did not OMGUS.

OOG: Just woke up for some reason and decided to see what’s up. Count me in for a Day/Night cycle that lasts for exactly a week – the predictability and hence ease of remembering the schedule would be lovely as far as I’m concerned. I know I haven’t much of a Mafia history, but I’ve always found it painfully easy to forget when Day or Night ends (or begins) and thus ended up getting caught short. (Er, not in the British sense.) So all this is to say that Days always starting on Monday and being relatively swift seems like a perfect idea to me.

Anyway with one day left of Daytime, could we please have a vote tally, Mr. Moderator Sir?

Given the amount of work I’ll be doing this game, I’d appreciate some help keeping a running tally.

However, one tally coming right up.

Visorslash (4, leader): Silver Jan, Mosier*,** Mahaloth, septimus, PetW
Gadarene (4): NAF1138, ToeJam, choie, Inner Stickler

Astral Rejection (2): Guiri, Gadarene

Septimus (1): Weedy
MHaye (1): Astral Rejection
Weedy (1): Visorslash

Abstain/Unvote/Present (2): Glee, gnarlycharlie

*******- Vote not bolded, therefore not legal

Tiebreak rules are the same as normal for this board culture: First to reach the tied number is lynched.

I don’t see that.

I don’t think I’ve ever played with glee before and his post did not say anything to me.

Is this a general strategy thing you’re trying to understand or are you strongly objecting to a couple of early D1 votes based on something that has little or no reasonable defense?

Huh? You voted her for voting Visorslash for OMGUS voting Weedy. I pointed out that her original motive for voting was not related to the OMGUS vote but she had twice used the OMGUS vote as a reason to keep her vote on Visorslash, maybe my correction adding confusion as I also questioned SilverJan on her denial in the same post.

Thanks, pizzaguy. And sorry for making you do more work; you’re probably right, we should do our own tallying.

So looking at the tally, that leaves about twelve people unheard from?

(Damn. For some reason I’m now mentally singing:

“I’m going back to tally
tally
tally
I’m going back to tally…
I don’t think so.”

And this is not a good earworm.)

OOG: Holy crap, what’s with the neon? Could’ve sworn I used the regular “green” code. Sorry about that.
