[Mafia game] The Realm of Phere

Being smudged for not liking cheese, typical cheese lovers!!!

Goode to knowe, fair Teller of Tales.
So you’re not Evil and scum or Good and Townie.
Duly noted.

And wherefore art this mystical fake Townie?
The PizzaGuy himself laid out in our midst, after engorging himself on Wine, mead, and Purple Drank?

What’s his contribution to the Town? Will he provide us information in the morn?
:pokes the drunkard with a stick:

I didn’t interpret it that way at all. story said

I took that to mean he has a ‘DnD Class Alignment’ (e.g. ‘Lawful Neutral’) and a Mafia Alignment (e.g. ‘Town’)…and that the two are distinct values. Period. Any inference as to the nature of the two values or any relation ship between them is unwarranted at this time, IMO. **story **is too good of a player to let anything slip in that manner.

And if he ‘let it slip’ on purpose, then we shouldn’t necessarily believe him anyway.

I am here. Don’t lynch me!

DnD alignment controls what classes you can choose. For example, in standard DnD, a paladin, which is a soldier writ large must be Lawful and Good. If they undertake actions that aren’t lawful or good, they lose their paladin status and the goodies that come along with that. I imagine that that’s basically what it’s for in this game as well. There’s a really neat class that you want to level up to but it’s chaotic and you’re neutral? Better see if there’s some unlawful hijinks you can get up to.

Storyteller’s blonde?!

OOC:

We’re about ready to get started, but before we do, I need to announce some game-mechanic-related information:

[ul]
[li]Level 1-5: You may possess up to 3 items at any given time.[/li][li]Level 6-10: You may possess up to 4 items.[/li][li]Level 11+: You may possess up to 5 items, which is the absolute maximum.[/li][li]If you have too many items, you must give one away, or you cannot get the new item. If there is no one you wish to give an item to, and only if you have maximum items, you may leave an item on the body of a dead player.[/li][/ul]

Gold and items-

When you die, you retain the gold you had when you died; it *cannot *be stolen. However, the most valuable item you have will be put up for a vote the next day. Value is determined by a hidden table which tells how much each item is worth. Usually, the more powerful the item, the more it is worth.
Any other items stay on your person. They can be stolen, however.

[ul]
[li]You may freely give an item to someone who is alive.[/li][li]You may, instead of the listed actions during the night, use an item on a given target in the game, including yourself. Beware, if you do not know the item’s effect, using it may be wasteful, or dangerous.[/li][/ul]
What do I use gold for?

Some folks are interested in accumulating gold, but if you don’t know what gold is for, then you probably aren’t interested if you gain any or lose any. There is no shop to buy items, and having zero gold at the endgame means nothing to you.
That said, if your goals change, then having the most gold could be your mission.

Can I give my gold away?

Other players may wish to sell their items. While they can do so, in exchange for your gold, you cannot give gold away freely. That defeats the purpose.
Game Balance and Ambiguity- IMPORTANT

It is possible, in this game, for most persons to become investigator-type roles, just as an example. Is that balanced? In theory, you could mass-investigate and find the scum within a couple rounds. That’s not balanced. So…

There are roles in this game which are naturally immune to certain things. Such as:

[ul]
[li]A kind of investigation, of which there are several.[/li][li]Roleblocking.[/li][li]Assassination.[/li][li]Stealing.[/li][li]Certain *kinds *of damage.[/li][/ul]
Therefore it is possible for the guilty party or parties to hide from your power, regardless of what power you have, depending on what role they have. It’s also very possible for innocents to gain the very same kinds of powers.

That said, for investigations, repeated investigations may prove useful against the same target. However, if they are fully immune, then your result will either not change, or come back unclear or otherwise inconclusive. I will inform you if the result will *never *change from “inconclusive” or “unclear”. I will not inform you if the result will otherwise change.

Thus, the power of many roles is blunted against certain other roles.

The Demon Lord

You can vote for the Demon monster, for all the good it will do you. I will count this as “No Lynch”. The Demon is known to be **immune **to the lynch at game start. However, the Demon a.k.a. **Askthepizzaguy **is otherwise a valid target for other actions.

Good luck with that…
Solve by spreadsheet

In some games where everyone has night actions, careful note-taking can discount certain people from being guilty because they were too busy visibly doing something else. That’s solving by brute force, which, like mass-investigation, seems broken to me. You might wish to take notes, but relying on them for the solve is sketchy at best, especially with immunities.

Terminology-

Magic shield- magically protects someone else
Guard- physically protects someone else with own body
Heal wounds- heals someone else
Full recover- fully heals someone else
Assassin- Murders someone physically, ignoring hit points
Attack- attacks someone physically, causing hp damage.
Magic attack- attacks someone magically, causing hp damage.
Track- follows someone, finding out who they visit at night.
Watch- watches someone, to see if they are visited and by whom.
Role cop- reveals someone’s character class.
Item cop- reveals progressively more info about items.
Detect Magic- determines if items are magical, and what they do.
Thief- steals item or money from someone
Backup- can become any role upon that roles’ death
Doublevoter, etc- is able to vote more than once. (will not be shown in the tally)
-proof- is able to negate or undo certain abilities used against him
Antimagic- Roleblocks magic power
Antimovement- Roleblocks physical abilities
Hide- is able to hide behind someone else for cover
Paranoid Doc- Protects and blocks someone.

There may be others.
Death-

The effects of death may not always be apparent, but not being able to vote or speak are just for starters. Remember that.

What the hell?! Mafia is nerdy enough but now we have to know D&D?! So even if I had all the time in the world to play, I’ll still be too busy! I really hope that my lack of D&D knowledge (i.e., the fact that I was one of the cool kids in high school ;)) won’t hurt me in this game.

***“Remember fools… lack of D&D knowledge doesn’t kill people… I kill people.”

Now that it’s all clear as Mudd .

I’m trusting that the " extra bits" will be clearer a Day or so into the game.
My intent is to play this as a standard Mafia game with extra bookkeeping for the Mod

  • ie He has to pay attention to who gains/loses------ levels/gold/items/power/body parts etc *

I think that’s absolutely acceptable. For the moment, I plan on playing mafia in this thread and then also be exploring my character class on the side. If the two ever intersect in an interesting and relevant way, I’ll be sure to let you all know what’s up.

Ha.
Thank you for your words of caution against Storyteller, my good man.
“Too good of a player”, eh? I see he’s been up to his usual ways then since I’ve left? :stuck_out_tongue:

*It is the year 10,432…

It is the **sixth day **of the sixth month. The morning has not yet come.

Skillet- Monster
*The secret side of me, I never let you see
I keep it caged but I can’t control it
So stay away from me, the beast is ugly
I feel the rage and I just can’t hold it

It’s scratching on the walls, in the closet, in the halls
It comes awake and I can’t control it
Hiding under the bed, in my body, in my head
Why won’t somebody come and save me from this, make it end?

I feel it deep within, it’s just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I’ve become, the nightmare’s just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster

I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster

My secret side I keep hid under lock and key
I keep it caged but I can’t control it
'Cause if I let him out he’ll tear me up, break me down
Why won’t somebody come and save me from this, make it end?

I feel it deep within, it’s just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I hate what I’ve become, the nightmare’s just begun
I must confess that I feel like a monster

I feel it deep within, it’s just beneath the skin
I must confess that I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster
I, I feel like a monster

The King stirs, unable to sleep. The foretold battle is about to commence. Resting seems pointless, so he gets up and puts on his armor. His royal guard and trusted entourage escort him to the site they have prophesied to be where something is about to happen. Surveying the great volcanic plain, the soil black as midnight, the King feels the air begin to chill, and the wind begin to whistle through the valley. Then all is calm, and the sun begins to brighten the sky, even from behind the mountains. The King is ready for whatever is about to happen. He looks toward the Town, wondering if the townsfolk are aware of the great deeds that will be done to protect them, deeds done by men of virtue and valor, knowing not their names or faces.

There is a** bright flash **behind the King, who turns and sees the last of his guard being obliterated. A lone figure remains. The cloaked being turns to face the King, with a wry smile on its face.

You… you’ve been behind this all along!” accused King Askthepizzaguy.

The cloaked figure began chanting quietly, something in its hands began to glow.

“What are you… what’s happening…” the King fell to his knees in pain. He could feel something… something was consuming him from the inside.

“Hatred… Pain… Suffering… Power… and Fear.”

The King dropped his weapons and began to scream with madness… and soon, the scream became inhuman.

The dull roar became louder, and louder, until it reverberated throughout the shadowy valley. And IT grew to an immense size, towering above any structure in the whole of the valley. IT was a creature not of this world… not of this dimension… a being of unimaginable power, and unstoppable strength.

IT was larger than life, and IT was consumed with hatred, for being woken from its slumber. IT wanted only one thing: Revenge. And nothing would stop it. The first victim would be the pathetic one who summoned it from Hell.

But the cloaked figure stepped forward, and held up its hands, shouting a deafening command to the Demon Lord, binding the creature with unseen magic.

“THOU MUST SERVE.”

The Demon Lord began to roar with unimaginable fury, and prepared to obliterate the small being at its feet. The **Summoner’s **hands began to glow brightly, and the first light of the sun began to shine down on the valley from behind the pointed peaks. The Demon shook the ground as it reacted from the shocking pain.

*“THOU MUST SERVE!”
*
The Demon only became even more enraged. By now, the Summoner had disappeared back inside the Fortification, and the band of **Adventurers **had scrambled to meet the horrible creature in the field of battle, wielding what armor and weapons they could grab.

**The Demon Lord **turned to the mass of little things running toward it, and decided that they would be the first to be annihilated… and then, every other living thing in this universe.

It’s like you understood what I said- it was bound to happen sooner or later. [grin]

The players that are into the D&D realm of things may have an advanced experience, but those who don’t can treat this like any game with a few ‘extra bits’
that may/should make more sense as the game rolls

Yikes, three days seems pretty short.

This will be a long, long game otherwise.

Also, added relevant music to writeup.

My early D1 intuition tells me to

Vote Astral Rejection

This post just screams scum:

The housekeeping, the apologetic tone, a little joke. For someone who ran the other D&D related mafia game, he’s got very little to say.

Oh, I’ll probably survive. Faster days don’t bother me nearly as much as some others. However, I feel I must point out, I will be with relatives all day Sunday as it’s Easter as I imagine others will be too, so people should probably plan on claiming early Saturday if they think they need to as it’s highly unlikely enough people will be around Sunday to make it effective.

Oof, that was fast, guiri. Is this vote based on your opinion of Astral as a player or do you regard all players with such comments as likely scum?

It’s intuition based on the post from the player.
