First, thanks for the guestimate, Astral. So we’re looking at a total of roughly seven scum? Yipe. That’s way more than I’m used to.
As far as my vote… honestly, there really is no rationale, except for my having made a solemn vow to vote for him in the sign-up thread for fooling me so extraordinarily well in the last game and causing me to lose the game for Town. Not only do I hold long grudges, I honor my vows. But seriously, right now I have no real reason for suspecting anyone, what with Day being so young it still has its umbilical cord. I’m not likely to keep my vote where it is considering the dude hasn’t even posted in the game thread yet, far as I can see.
On preview: Inner Stickler, you’re right, and I know grudges are bad. (Heck, by rights you should be holding a grudge against me, since I stupidly and very wrongly voted against you twice.) It’s just my impotent way of pulling his nose.
Astral, re: Guiri, I didn’t take his vote seriously because it was so early and seemed to be based on the Gouda joke you made, so I assumed he was just, um, punishing you. His later explanation was straight-faced but hey, ‘deadpan’ is a legit type of humor, isn’t it?
I’m not quite sure how my not taking a Day One Hour Two vote seriously is suspicious enough to rate a vote, but then again, I’d be breaking my own rules if I took your vote seriously. So hey, knock yourself out.
Since you agree with Guiri’s post, I assume you agree with this as well:
Can you explain to me, without merely saying “I agree,” what screams scumminess about my post? For a day one Day 1 vote based on one night 0 joke post, Guiri sure seems to laying on the certainty about this case pretty thick. Since you’ve agreed with no qualifiers, I assume you share that certainty?
another way of doing this the square root of the number of players. we have 29 players excluding Pizzamod. that would make it 5 to 6 scum. of course, there’s the caveat that powers and other factions could make it shrink or grow.
as for choie’s vote, others have explained why. i even think she said she would do this after the second game.
I must admit, the first thought I had upon seeing the word traitor was a recruiting scum team.
The Guiri-Astral-Choie-Gadarene crossfire is interesting. I must admit, I’m not seeing what Guiri and Gad do but it sort of sounds like they don’t really know what they’re seeing either, except that they don’t like it.
If we take the ‘Parmigian loyalists’ to be Town, we might have three other factions in the game, in addition to the Scum. Or perhaps there’s no ‘Scum’ at all…just a bunch of different groups who are ‘not Town’…
Oof. Short Day + me taking the “I’m too busy” literally is going to make this painful. Fortunatly we have at least two players laying down questionable votes right out of the gate.
Gad’s vote just feels all kinds of wrong to me. Guiri’s vote was, seemingly, personal and not all that solid. A gut read if you will. I don’t have a problem with that as an early vote, but wagoning onto a hit read vote without further reasoning is no good.
Then there is the slightly more problematic problem of Normal Phase’s vote. There is no way she thinks that is a good vote, and I don’t understand why she laid it down at all. From another player this might be par for the start of Day 1, but unless things have changed a lot while I have been on hiatus that is out of character for her.
And not it turns out that the keyboard I have installed on my phone doesn’t have square brackets or an equals sign so I can’t hand code votes in tapatalk, leaving the end of this post rather underwhelmingly without a vote at the bottom.
I will be back to vote for Gad from my phone browser where I can just tap a button in a moment. I feel more strongly about that bad vote than I do about NP’s, but I don’t like her vote one little bit either.
Welcome to the SDMB, Visorslash! Great to see new faces, or at least usernames.
This is kinda OT, and sorry for that. I just wanted to ask a favor, and please don’t think me presumptuous for doing so, but… I know some of you guys are familiar with each other from some other mafia board, which is awesome because it’s clearly brought in some new players. But I was wondering, could y’all please consider the rest of us poor SDMB shlubs who are out of the loop here, and refer to each other by your current SDMB usernames? Not everyone knows ‘Renata’ = Normal Phase (something I only know 'cause I remember it from askthepizzaguy’s calling her ‘Renata’ back in De’endee. It confused me then too, but I was too wimpy to say anything.
It’s just that for those who don’t know her other name from this other community, it makes it *much *easier to keep track of who’s talking about or voting for whom when we’re all using the same names.
Sorry for the meta. And if I’m the only one bothered by this, no prob, carry on. Thanks!
Inner Stickler is correct. If I were playing, I would tell you that grudges are bad.
Ahem.
“Trying to get someone killed just because they were Mafia in the previous game, and insidiously undermined all your points before leading the Town to an egregious mislynch of your innocent self is bad. Roles in this game have nothing to do with roles in the last game. Vote to lynch by all means, but do so based on events and evidence in this game.”
There, now I’ve performed my civic duty, I need to wander off for a few hours. Back after lunch.
@ Astral, oh, no, I thought you knew a lot about DnD so I suspected you were giving advice/explanations elsewhere. As for the tone, I read it as an apology followed by a pun. My vote could be seen as a baseless early D1 joke vote with hyperbole designed to provoke a reaction but that’s not quite the case, your post set off a bell.
On the numbers of scum, I don’t think Pizza follows square roots or 1/4 rules, he seems to like smaller scum teams, see the recent game on Giraffe.
@ Choie, while I’m in no way certain that Astral is scum, my vote is as serious as an early Day 1 vote based on a single N0 post can be.
As for Gadarene’s vote, huh, I suppose it’s good that I’m not the only one who noticed Astral’s post.
Mmm. On that. I don’t see it either. I mean, I kinda can if I squint, but I don’t trust that kind of perception. The comment mainly looks to me like an all-of-a-piece excuse to work in the word “gouda”. If Guiri’s right, I think it’s accidental.
I do want to make a note for later to connect Gadarene and Astral if either should flip scum, because Gadarene’s “me too” is as easy to see as opportunistic bussing as it is to see as opportunistic piling-on-a-townie. That said, I don’t find it scummy per se.
I sort of do find Guiri worthy of a :dubious: at this point, which is pretty much the opposite of how I felt originally, when I thought I might pile on his Astral vote myself and see what happened. It’s that “I can see it, but …” feeling that I’ve had all too often with arguments coming from talented scum, and it’s making me wary.
This looks even more self-conscious to me than the original “don’t lynch me” thing. If you’re a townie, please to be addressing my vote in some way next time you turn up, because you’re really pushing my “KILL” buttons.
