MAFIA: The Game - Ideal for Beginners [Game in Progress]

Blergh.

This game is “ideal for beginners” because it has a simple, open setup - not because the roles were non-random. To preferentially assign power roles to experienced players would compromise the integrity of the setup precisely because it would mean that we’d be able to make the kinds of inferences that you’re attempting to make.

Anyway, what did you edit out from post #971?

While waiting for the end of the Night I had three windows open, and was playing in other Thread Games. I accidentally posted some song lyrics that were going into a different Game, and then realized my error.

But, yes, I see that the roles were stated as being assigned randomly, which makes it our tough luck that the Wolves went with experienced players as obvious targets.

We need to lynch with purpose and plan. The situation is dire but we can come back. I agree with Jimmy Chitwood that we need to make sure our next lynch gives us additional information. Even if Dante G. had been wolf we would not have learned much.

So we need to lynch smartly now. Room for error is near zero. I still like TexCat, but I am very open to other suggestions.

I assume you mean this one; the timestamps check out. It’s still better to let errors stay on the record. There’s no way to prove what you did on an edit, and nighttime posts are still ‘on the record,’ even if we can’t discuss strategy during them.

Maybe we should be looking at experienced players who * have not *been targeted.

I believe Mahaloth was actually voting for one before switching at the end to Dante G.

That’s the one. It’s a Noob mistake.

Good people of Cecilton, please gather round. This may well be my last Day on Earth. So be nice to me. If you want to make me a pie, my favorite is pecan.

I am the Seer.

On Night I, I spied on TexCat. The result was: TOWN. Now, granted, she might be the Alpha. But the result, combined with my general sense of her posts, leads me to think she probably really is town.

On Night II, I spied on JSexton. The result was: WOLF.

So, first, let me get this off my chest:

Vote JSexton

At the bottom of this post, I put my PMs with storyteller. If you want to see the paper trail, there it is.

When I started the game, I had hoped that after revealing myself, I’d be able to survive one more night as long as the Guardian protected me. I guess that isn’t going to happen now. Thanks, team :(. So, I figure I will likely be mauled tonight.

I decided to out myself now so we could at least get a wolf toDay and so that hopefully this information would give us all a chance to figure out who seems to be abnormally close to JSexton. Also, it already looks like we’re measuring rope for TexCat again, and I want to put a halt to that. Yeah, she may be the Alpha, but I think our lynchin’ rope will be put to better use elsewhere. Like JSexton. Let’s kill that guy with all speed.

I am only sad that Mahaloth won’t be here to see it. He was one of the first to peg JSexton as a wolf. He and I both voted for JSexton on Day One, and he revoted him on Day Two before switching to Dante G. Mahaloth probably would have enjoyed seeing JSexton swing. Alas.

So anyway, there you go.

Now. Who have we seen JSexton hanging out with…

Here are my PMs with storyteller, in case you want to see for yourself:

On Night I, I PMed storyteller:
Hey storyteller!

Thanks for the game. Day One was fun. I wish I could have posted more. Could we possibly get an official vote tally, BTW?

Anyway, I’d like to use my investigative power. When I skulk out at night and spy on TexCat, what do I see?

Thanks!!

And he responded:

On Night II, I asked:
Hey storyteller!

I’d like to use my Seer power to spy on JSexton.

Thanks!
Bayard
And he responded:

Well, that certainly sucked. I guess before any analysis I should acknowledge that I voted, and in fact was the third vote, on Dante G. I don’t think my reasoning was terrible, but perhaps I was too quick to ascribe scumminess to what turned out to be just a different style of play. What with all the new players here, I will try to make different mistakes in the future.

Sunday evening and especially Monday morning, I was getting very apprehensive as the votes kept piling onto Dante G and it became clear that no organized effort was being made to defend him or push another candidate. I considered moving my vote or at least expressing my concerns, but told myself not to panic – surely everyone voting for Dante was Town and the scum were just too intimidated by our collective Townie virtue to try to mount a counterattack. Another goddamn learning experience.

Anyway, I don’t know that there’s much to analyze about yesterday. We made it far too easy for the scum; maybe they voted Dante early, or late, or somewhere in the middle, or stayed off the bandwagon entirely.

So I’m left with no new information, and I see two options. One is to continue looking in the group of septimus voters for scum. Since, among the players who have been in real danger since the game started (Chronos, JSexton, TexCat, septimus, and Dante G), I feel strongly that only the case against septimus made no sense at all even by Day One standards, and we now know he was Town, that still seems like the likeliest place to find scum in

The other is to reconsider the lynch-for-info option on TexCat (who, after all, was herself a septimus voter). I may have been too quick to dismiss this yesterday. I don’t think she’s among the very scummiest-looking players, but she’s certainly not among the least scummy, either, and when the information bonus is considered, maybe she becomes the smart choice. As I’ve outlined previously, if she dies before Cygnus, I am prepared to assume that Cygnus is on the same team. So if she’s scum, we probably get to lynch scum two days in a row, and we could really use a winning streak here. If she’s town, at least Cygnus becomes (IMO) near-confirmed town, which doesn’t come close to making up for the mislynch but is at least something. Also, we would then know that the septimus voters aren’t any likelier than anyone else to be scum. And although I wouldn’t say I would consider anyone else “near-confirmed”, it would certainly move the needle on the other players who voted for her.

I will think about it and try to review some more likely candidates. I reviewed Cygnus last Night, and will try to post the detailed list of his posts when I have time. Briefly, my conclusion was that he hasn’t had much to say, and most of what he has said didn’t strike me as very pro-Town. He has been pretty consistently on Dante G and JSexton all game.

Vote JSexton

Oh. Well, then.

vote JSexton.

Not sure if the word “vote” has to be in blue, but

Right now posts 204-206 look very suspect. OTOH, they may just have been the early joviality they seemed.

So, Bayard, give us your thoughts on who you suspect and who you don’t. We need our Seer’s wisdom!

I think you’re slightly confused as to what a game role confers. If you ask me, I’d preferred if our Seer had waited at least one more Night before he outed himself, but I guess the results so far are still pretty good: 2 confirmed Townfolk to worry the Wolves; 1 Wolf to lynch (and stem the “blood-letting” we have so far).

Vote JSexton

Yeah, I really debated with myself as to whether I should come out in the open. I would have rather waited a night as well, but I was worried about losing another townie in a mislynch (assuming TexCat is not the Alpha). On the other hand, I’ll probably be dead this time tomorrow and I won’t be able to help anymore. On the other other hand, it’s not like I was able to steer the town’s actions without outing myself. So… I don’t know. I don’t know how to play this game. :frowning:

But the important thing – the truly important thing – is that we lynch JSexton.

None of us do, boy-o. None of us do.

Tru dat. And yeah, the thing about Power Roles is always a conundrum (except for the Guardian roles, and some others): when and how to reveal themselves? For instance: having lost 2 of our Masons, the third one becomes, essentially, a Powerless Townie. Should they/could they have revealed themselves before?

Anyhow, don’t mind my musings: your choice is pretty good: it forces the Wolves to kill you toNight and gives us at least one confirmed Wolf kill.

Vote JSexton

Quick vote here. Not home but I want to be on record. Analysis later.

vote: JSexton
I don’t think I’ve ever played with him before, but I’m guessing he would have objected to the plan, wolf or town.

Well done, Bayard! I’m sure the folks in the forbidden thread will be able to give you advice when you get there. I think claiming when you find scum (whatever the Day) is OK. It’s a shame our protector was lynched. :smack: My thoughts: I might have kept my results a secret until Friday or Saturday, and in the meantime, tried to engage JSexton to see if he might give up some clues to his teammates. Although I think he’s too good a player for that to have worked. Nevertheless, if you had attacked and voted him on the basis that Mahaloth thought he was scum, his wolfmates might have been tempted to stick up for him.
