Mafia: The Thrill of the Chase [Newbie Friendly!]

This is some weak-ass shit right here.

  1. If you want to know why read my posts? What, all 49 of them? What makes you so special that think you get away with pointing such a weakly phrased suspicion without any sort of justification (or even a summary of one), or a link to a previous comment? When this is what you have been calling people out for? Telling other people to do the legwork seems like a lazy and scummy thing to do, and your comment in post 355 does very little to change my opinion. You’re casting suspicions far too lightly and in doing so you are unfair to the ones you accuse but far more importantly, you are holding out on us.

  2. Which brings me to my next point - I actually brought this up not too long ago in post #329 and you never bothered to reply. I can’t find the post right now, but I distinctly recall someone claiming that ignoring single accusations and waiting for more to accumulate is a scum tell.

  3. Your vote for choie is based on even less of a justification than your suspicion of fisha. You weren’t completely pleased with his post #333 but what does that even mean? what did you expect to get from this post that it did not provide to you exactly? I can speculate but really you should be telling us instead of having us speculate. Frankly, I can understand where choie’s coming from, and I think she’s right in pointing out that voting is pretty random on the first day and becomes more informed as the day goes on (how could that not be true); I think it still makes sense to go through this phase of the game to tease out information that may be usefull to town later, but I understand the sentiment.

  4. Including some reference to another player’s actions in some unspecified older game is completely useless to me You pointed out to me how it’s not good to offer information that some players may not have access too - you’re essentially doing the same.
    [/INDENT]
I am not 100% convinced that you are scum but I think that it is a distinct possibility. More seriously though, I haven’t really found your posting in this thread to be a contribution to towns effort. Whether that is because you might be scum, or perhaps because your style just rubs me the wrong way, I don’t know, but either way I am going to:

Vote special ed

current vote count after my vote for ed. Note that the count in post 341 contains a mistake as I’ve unvoted SilverJan.

Big long post by wevets:

Upon rereading this thread, I’ve decided I don’t like this post. Cases 1-7 “do not appeal” to wevets. Two of these cases (4 and 6) involve voting for Precambrianmollusc. Wevets says that I voted for Precam because Precam voted for Svejk, which isn’t a very good recap of my reason, but that’s another issue. The point is, wevets attributes a reason to my vote (Because Precam voted for Svejk) and then states that my vote doesn’t appeal to him.

Fast forward 3 paragraphs, and we see wevets vote for Precam himself, because Precam voted for Svejk. In one paragraph, wevets finds this distasteful. In another, he uses it to justify his own vote for Precambrianmollusc.

To compound matters, nowhere in this post do I get the sense that wevets thinks Precambrianmollusc might be scum.

Let’s look at the rest of wevets’ posts.

After his confirmation, wevets posts some fluff. Then more fluff with a joke to special ed, followed by a mechanics question on how we usually start. Another joke and a mechanics question. More mechanics about the game state. A me-too vote for fluiddruid based on Svejk’s case, with just a hint of “gosh look how hard day 1 is.” Here it is in its entirety:

As a quick break from the wevets recap, here again is how wevets will later describe his own vote:

Wevets follows this up with another joke to special ed and a mechanics answer to Guiri. The next post by wevets is perhaps the meatiest, as we get to see him react to a little bit of pressure from fluiddruid. Honestly, this part has a somewhat town feel to it. I have no substantial issues with this post, as it seems to be a very reasonable reaction to the slight pressure he was getting.

But then this post happens, which kicked off my investigation in the first place. I cannot understand a town thought process that says “these votes do not appeal to me” followed by “I should still vote for this person.” Coupled with the fact that wevets makes absolutely no attempt to add to either case against Precambrian, and this is coming up scummy all the way for me.

Then, to be fair, wevets again reacts very well to pressure. His last post, as of me composing this, is more mechanics talk about who we should be voting for.

So, lots of fluff, lots of mechanics talk, extremely little scum hunting, and a vote that never strikes me as genuine.

As far as first Day votes go, I’ll be happy to

Unvote Fubbles

and

Vote wevets.

I think I read that this is your first game. I’m hoping you get lynched as a resuit of my case because I think you’re scum, but it’s nothing personal. If you do end up getting killed, I hope it doesn’t discourage you from playing mafia again!

I’m sorry, I meant it as an explanation of why you seem to attract votes because people were making the same claims about you in DenDee and you felt it was a mischaracterization then as well. I’m not trying to build a case on you because I don’t want to lynch you yet.

Nice random smudge, there.

Not voting (5): Scathach, gregorio, Hirka T’Bawa, orcenio, gnarlycharlie

Just under 2 hours left in the Day, 5 non voters, including Scathach who’s been participating, and a three way tie with just three votes each.

Of the top three, I’d prefer to see Precambrian lynched but don’t have a townie vibe from any of them.

My vote stands.

SilverJan’s OMGUS vote doesn’t help. Easy for her to do, doesn’t have to stick her neck out. Pre-made justification, who would possibly question a second vote like that?

Inner Stickler has an abrasive posting style to me, and I am pretty sure my posting style annoys him as well. We played one game before, and I remember that was very difficult to not automatically think of him as scum because of it. As far as I can tell, his vote for me is somewhat based on this, because there is no good rationale. Well, other than you’re scum, of course.

(We really should meet at a big Mpls Dopefest one of these days-you’re not too far from me,{unless you’ve moved} and it’s usually a good time. I’m not quite as annoying in person, promise.)

As to special ed smearing me in the background, yet not voting for me, color me unimpressed. I think the “jumping in” of my vote 100 posts after the original SilverJan vote might be stretching your argument quite a bit beyond believability , so your timing argument is moot here in normal space/time continuum.

I voted for who I thought was scum, and I did it when I had to because of RL.

**Mental Guy **really hasn’t given his argument, other than

So I am basically being penalized for voting, and giving my reasons. At least you recognize it by your next statement.

You’re wrong this time, too.

And to Scathach, gregorio, Hirka T’Bawa, orcenio, gnarlycharlie, you guys suck. Way to not play the game.

catching up. not sure how much time i have so i’ll lay a vote down.

Vote Mahaloth

it feels like he’s trying to make an easy vote. he picks on what are slightly anti-town at worst.

i’ll let this pass since you haven’t played much and likely haven’t experienced conflicts between RL and mafia. sometimes RL gets in the way of playing. we’ve only been missing for most of a Day. we usually give each other a little slack for that. it would be different if we were gone for several Days. you should play with Captain Pinkies. you’d probably have choice words for him.

15 minutes!

Boy, 13 mins to go and a three-way tie. I don’t particularly like the cases made against Fisha, PCM, and Wevets, and I am quite content with my vote for **Ed **so I’m not going to change my vote. It would make sense at this point to figure out who amongst these three voteleaders is the scummiest, even if I think that others are more deserving of a vote, but frankly I don’t have time for that (I wish I did) and it would not contribute to vote just to break the tie, without having done the research. I hope somebody else will take it upon themselves to be tie-breakers. I apologize that it can’t be me, I wish I’d had the time.

I must say, though, that none of the third votes, all of which happened just recently and which created this standoff within 7 posts of each other, are particularly convincing or well argued, from what I can tell. I am starting to wonder if **Fubbleskag ** (post #359) and Astral Rejection (post #364) might have something to gain from creating a standoff in which no one dares to act, and which in the end may be detrimental to the information gathering process that the voting-and-lynching procedure is for. Why create this dilemma?

You could always vote choie and make it a 4-way tie!

Meh, that was a bit of an anti climax. I had three windows open, ready to vote whoever switched their vote to save themselves at the last minute… None of them even appear to be online.

fisha was underwater, in over her head. The tentative objections and basic ideas she had proposed had only served to draw fire from the others. She glanced despairingly, hoping to stop the pile-on, but even those that cared for her, deep down, refused to speak in her defense. ‘I’m sorry’, their eyes brimmed, filled with the silent language that men dare not speak, lest they lose all credibility, ‘it just has to be this way’. Also literally.

fisha, Vanilla Townie is dead.

It is now Night 1. Day 2 starts Sunday at 10:20 AM MT

So how do we decide three-way ties?

fubbleskag - thanks for that rundown of all 20 players, I would have liked to do something like that yesterday if I had the time.

Astral Rejection - I like the effort that went into your post, but is my attempt to make jokes really that bad for the game? Anyhoo, I disagree with your conclusions, whether for personal or objective reasons will be up to whoever reads this. But I do appreciate that a lot of work went into your post and vote.

Oh, never mind about how ties are resolved.

Farewell fisha.

Will you specify which conclusions you disagree with and give the objective reasons? Was your vote on fluiddruid a me- too vote? Was your vote on Precambrian equivalent to his? Do you think Precambrian is scum? How do you reconcile your vote with your evaluation of the other votes on the same player?

apologies if this was previously asked/answered and I’ve just overlooked it, but are we allowed to discuss strategy at night, or fluff only?
