Actually if you just change “just” to “judge” the sentence works fine. My guess he was torn between the longer “justify considering…” and “judge” and kinda ended up somewhere in the middle.
Well… that’s a bit of a strawman argument, isn’t it? I mean, yes, of course if someone is that egregiously poor in the signal-to-noise ratio, then it’s certainly something to take into consideration. That would certainly come across as a desperately new scum player to me.
But I don’t think anyone is usually quite that useless and fluffy, so generally I do think someone having several game mechanics/advice-filled posts–especially in a newbie-rich game like this–is not an especially useful metric to use. Exceptions should be made in this scenario with so many of us being newbies (or relative newbies).
“judge” makes sense as well, and doesn’t change my response.
admitted, it’s an extreme example. my point is that a signal-to-noise ratio, as you elegantly put it, is a factor that we would both consider - we’re just now left with determining at what ratio it becomes a factor worth considering.
I’d also like to re-iterate that I’m not counting up people’s mechanics questions and thinking to myself “holy shit, choie has 18 mechanics posts, she must be scum”, but if I review a player’s posts and find that they’ve made 18 mechanics posts and not contributed to the actual game, I will raise an eyebrow. the point being that they’re posting, they’re active, but are not contributing to the discussion.
while we’re at it, I’ll warn everyone that Tuesday night is my poker night, so there’s a good chance I won’t be very active until sometime Wednesday night after the poop-machine has gone to sleep.
I do not have any top suspects. I am leery of Special Ed and Guiri, but for no reason except that their posting styles seem different than that of prior games. Mental Guy also pings me slightly, though the only concrete comment I’d make would be that for someone too busy to post frequently, #259 seems odd: a rather long post that contributes almost nothing to our scum-hunting.
But none of these “pings” is enough even for a Day 1 vote, so I’m in Day 2 without a clue. (And I’m still not 100% sure of PCM – he was looking better, but some of his latest posts almost seem to “protest too much.” :dubious: )
I think the Lurkers are very anti-Town, but we should leave them for the Vig to kill. Please, Townies, participate! It was disastrous the way our Cop got killed, but I definitely do not blame the Vig.
As to the “one-off” voters, I was throwing that out there for consideration. Two pinging me (Guiri and Special Ed) weren’t one-off voters, but rather the “two-offers.”
I agree that Švejk is posting very intelligently; it’s hard to believe he’s a newbie. I doubt he’s Scum – If Scum, he’d probably be faking naïveté.
It’s nitpicking and largely irrelevant, but I think he may have made a minor statistics mistake:
Assuming for simplicity that targets are picked at random, the chance that Scum and Wevets would pick the same target is almost as good as the chance Scum picked Wevets. (If Bob and Alice independently each pick a number from 1 to 20, the chance Bob picks Alice’s number is the same as the chance Bob picks 7.) Of course picking the targets isn’t random. Although I won’t try to guess who it was, it hardly seems unlikely that Wevets and Scum would make the same guess about a Power role.
If fubble is going to be rude to me the whole game, I don’t really want to continue. If he’s just been joking this whole time, I do not get the joke. 11 years on this board and I can’t remember a significant disagreement. Heck, Dio and me got along(not that he played mafia with me).
not entirely your fault; I addressed the question of my actual vote selection in a response to Guiri, but mangled the quoting, so it was probably not obvious to anyone but him. short version: post to fluff ratio was a contributing factor to my overall rating of each player, but was not a direct factor in my final vote.
I included in my Day 1 summary a note that your posting tone was “bitchy” and that that was “status quo”. another player commented about your “angry” tone in a reference to another game. your reply “nice random smudge” indicated to me that you didn’t get the reference or the joke from her immediately (even though you claim later that you did). I re-iterated my comment and mentioned that I thought it had been mentioned in previous games. I know that I’ve noticed the same tone from you in previous games, and perhaps I was mistaken in my memory that anyone else had commented on it - it’s not important enough an issue for me to go looking for the cite you demanded (this is a mafia game, not GD, ffs). for whatever reason you decided that my comment somehow meant that everyone hated you and threw yourself a childish little pity party, which is what led to my most recent comment.
I voiced my opinion, it hurt your feelings, you reacted, and I made fun of that reaction. I won’t apologize, nor will I promise not to do it again - to your or anyone else that acts similarly (I would expect the same in return)
if you’re scum, then by all means, fucking quit right now. if you’re town, suck it the fuck up and play the game.
I don’t want to dignify you with a response, but the “angry” tone was part of my quirk for Party Quirks, not my actual personality. I had the 5 stages of grief as my quirk.
I understand that it was a party quirks game and that you were playing a role there - I’m not referring to your tone in that game anywhere in my comments.
Wouldn’t it have been easier to say, “Hey dude, I’m sorry I hurt your feelings” instead? We’re just playing a game here.
You don’t have to be right, and there doesn’t have to be a winner here. There was a blowup in one of my previous games, and it was unpleasant for everyone.
i realized that later at Night. while i was catching up, i decided to vote because i thought the deadline was close. in the posts i was reading he still had 2 votes on him. i never did fully catch up so i missed the unvotes. i took a break and promptly fell asleep.
Damn straight. Stop fighting, guys. Besides, it’s the season of peace and love – can’t we go back to ritualistic nighttime killings and the lynching of innocents?
