“Let’s get him!” “Get Charlie!”
The list of grievances against gnarlycharlie were as long as they were suddenly appearing in the last half hour. “He stood me up!” “He kinda smells weird!” “I don’t know that guy!” “He keeps trying to preach at us!”
Well, with that sort of case I can’t imagine not killing him.
GnarlyCharlie, the Heavyset Nerd (Scum Goon) is dead.
It is now Night the Third. Day 4 starts at 10:00 AM MST on Sunday, Dec 18th.
A vote count around about now would be good.
Yes! So glad it worked out!
Damn after EOD LOL
Wow, the adrenalin rush is still there, it’s about time we got a scum!
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!
Thank you gut!
Wow! Woot the fracking woot, even!
This Lynch is one for the Mafia Hall of Fame (though I for one am going to need to replay it in slow motion just to see what happened!
).

this must be a pop culture reference that I’m not familiar with?

Yay! A dead scum! Glad I was here at EOD to switch my vote! Hope this signals a change in momentum, lets go get those scum!
I is not even playing now
I is a happy bunny lol! Still not sure about you but… we got a scum Yay!!!
I’m glad that’s over and we got a scum lynch out of it, even if it was last minute and “on the gut”.
unless **Mahaloth **does something particularly scummy, or someone presents a very compelling case, I’m going to have to recuse myself from voting him for the remainder of the game; I’m worried that our flare up may have affected my judgement in my vote on him, and at the same time now I’m worried that I may overcompensate the other direction and give him an undeserved town lean.
there’s a chance that I may be unexpectedly free of my normal duties for several hours this evening; if so, I will make an effort to thoroughly review Days 1-3 (but no promises) - I’m well aware that my contribution levels have been unhelpful at best, and anti-town at worst. this isn’t an excuse nor a plea for clemency; if you still feel I’m scum, please vote accordingly - but I will not be making any more self-defence posts until/unless I’m able to complete the aforementioned review.
Oh hallefuckin’lujah!! That’s awesome. I really admire those whose instincts are right on the money. Mine don’t seem to help me very much! Hell, I *still]/i] don’t see what pinged people about gnarlycharlie, so I’m clearly way more obtuse than I care to admit.
And it’s Night now. Time to think.
Buyakasha! Way to go town. Like choie, I really appreciate those whose guts pointed them in the direction of Gnarly. I’ll make sure to go over the things he posted to see scum in action, that should be informative. I hope this will change our momentum.
I would like to thank those who ended up not voting for me - I understand your concern about my actions and I am glad that you decided that in the end what I did, did not merit a lynching. Again, thank you for your confidence, I apologize to town for doing needlessly distracting things, and I hope we can leave this behind us as we move onwards to D3. Choie, given the fact that I ended up not being lynched, I would like to hear how you feel about voting for me (also in light of my comments after your vote).
This vote count is wrong - it has Gnarly casting two votes! Can someone supply a correct vote count?
I can’t find a record of gnarly voting for Svejk, only Hirka (#702)
Sweet!
Well, I don’t feel bad for my vote because it didn’t result in a lynch. Firstly, because just 'cause you weren’t lynched isn’t proof of Towniness, just that someone else was pushed up on the gallows this time around. But either way, let’s face it, most of our votes don’t result in lynches, and sometimes one’s gut’s right, sometimes it’s wrong.
Heck, special ed could just as easily ask you, “So, Svejk, how do you feel about your vote on me considering I wasn’t lynched, hmmm?” My guess is it doesn’t change your feelings about him, does it? (Spoiler alert: it shouldn’t, assuming your mistrust of him was genuine.)
So no, I’m not gonna weep and wail at not having joined the gnarlycharlie train. As long as we lynched a scumbag, that’s the important thing–I don’t feel the need to prove my Town cred that badly. And it’s not because I’m cocky enough to believe everyone knows I’m Town ('cause obviously y’all don’t); it’s just that for me, what truly matters is seeing the bodies of scumfolks lying at our feet. Even if I get lynched, as long as it somehow helps Town to do so (for example, if the other Townies think there’d be some useful information gleaned from my lynching), well, that’s okay then. A Town win benefits all Townies, dead or alive. I’d consider it a worthwhile martyrdom if it somehow led to a Townie win.
That’s a lesson I learned after my first game, Svejk. I felt very differently in that game, and behaved in a pretty defensive manner not unlike your own. But after that experience, I’ve been able to become a bit more zen and able ot see the bigger picture of the game, which is: Town must win, and Town’s survival is more important than any one individual player.
I won’t lie and say in retrospect I had suspicions about gnarlycharlie in order to make myself look good. Truth is, my gut wasn’t feeling anything about gnarly–quite the contrary, I had a vague unease about the sudden “dogpile on the rabbit” on the guy–but it’s clear that some rabbits deserve to be dogpiled upon, because apparently they’re not rabbits, but in fact are, um, some other animal that would make this incredibly labored analogy work.
I still haven’t gone to bed after that all-nighter I pulled, so I’m sensing I’m no longer coherent. So lemme go take a nap and I’ll respond to your other question.
While I sleep, I’d be very curious to know what the general consensus is now on who the top two scummiest-looking players are. (Quite possible I’m one of them, which is why I’m asking for two.
)
Sleep tight sweet choie. While you’re in dreamland, let me rephrase the question. You voted against me for a certain number of reasons at a time when that vote made me tied for a lynch; others, Ed in particular have since withdrawn their votes and voiced their doubts about my scumminess. After your vote I raised a number of issues here, calling into question your reasoning underlying your vote for me. All you’ve done is comment 4 minutes after EOD that you are ‘just more in favor of a Svejk lynch’. That’s fine, but I’d like to see you comment on that a bit more fully if you don’t mind. Do you consider me a prime lynch target for D4?
I realize that you have made the point that I am too defensive and that that is a newbie pitfall. I intend to stop harping on the issue of people voting against me, which is not the end of the world. I hope to regain people’s trust moving into the next Day - if I should make it to another Day - but what the heck, I do find your reasoning for your vote a bit flaky and you have not really responded to the issues I’ve raised so if you find the time to do so that would be great
For your convenience, here are all 17 posts made by Gnarlycharlie.

There’s not a lot to go on. His votes were:
D1 - Mahaloth: “it feels like he’s trying to make an easy vote. he picks on what are slightly anti-town at worst.” This is Gnarly’s first and last proper post that Day. It would appear that his vote is at least as easy as the one Mahaloth made.
D2 - special ed: “i’m still most suspicious of Mahaloth. i’m also suspicious of Special Ed. Special Ed’s new playstyle is already unhelpful to begin with but he seems to be more distracting than i’ve seen before. Mahaloth is voting for Special Ed. maybe it’s scum bussing fellow scum. if that’s the case i’ll help them.” I have a feeling that there’s some prophetic value in what Gnarly says here - perhaps he was right about one or both of them being scum? At any rate, here, the vote is both easy and weird - he votes with the player he thinks is most suspicious, for another player that he also finds suspicious.
D3 - Hirka: “what bothers me is Hirka’s vote on Svejk. i understand that lynching Svejk can give us answers but Hirka’s reason is off. he’s willing to risk lynching a possible townie Svejk to prove he should be voting for scathach who he already suspects.” - the reasoning is a bit incoherent here, I don’t really understand what Gnarly means by ‘to prove he should be voting’ in this quote.
Other things that caught my eye:
- The man does not capitalize the personal pronoun ‘I’, nor does he capitalize at the beginning of sentences. Hardly a scum tell, but perhaps evidence that he is lacking in moral fiber.
- “choie, some players don’t say anything after a townie is lynched because players used to be suspected of gloating and so choose to say nothing. the tells in the link are dated and IMO obsolete.” **Gnarly **did not ‘gloat’ - the tell *was *correct for him.
- **Gnarly **had it in for Special Ed and Mahaloth especially, stating that they were his primary targets even when he was voting for Hirka. In each case, it could mean that they are town, and that Gnarly was trying to contribute to their demise; Alternately, it could mean that they are scum and **Gnarly **was trying to get in a one-off vote that would count towards town credit should either **Maha **or **Ed ** be lynched. This latter option seems the more likely one; neither Gnarly’s cases and their justification, nor his actual voting behavior suggest that he was ever trying to contribute to town getting lynched.
His voteon D1 came in 46 moments before EoD, and was a one-off when there was a three-way tie in place. While it is understandable that he would not have stuck his head out to break the tie (I did not and sure as hell would not unless I was very certain of what I was doing) the vote he cast clearly was very inconsequential and harmless to Mahaloth. Gnarly’s D2 votewas 11 minutes before EoD, and was a second vote for** Ed**. Seeing that Inner was in the lead with four votes, here too **Gnarly’s **vote did not present any real danger for Ed. The third vote came earlier, on Tuesday. This vote, too, remained a one-off vote throughout the Day and presented no real danger to **Hirka **at any point.
A third option is the intentional one-off harmless vote for a townie, but I find it hard to see what would motivate that.
